I ditched my Serato when the first version of Algoriddim DJ was released and have never looked back. It gets better with each version. I initially started when only Numark supported the software but now I use the Mixon 4&8 and absolutely love the features.
The one thing I miss is DJay integration with Spotify. I realize it may be out of Algorridim’s control with licensing and all but still sorely missed. Anyway, now that you pointed out 5 things DJay can improve on, how about a video with “5 things Algoriddim does well”. Thanks

All your feedback is valid , buying get want go sell more, they just need to do one thing! Pay HD manufacturers to bundle it in with HW sales. Their opportunities with policy and feature functionality is not nearly as critical as their marketing and sales on ramp.
DJ Pro has done a fantastic job wit their software. The library works very well for me. It allows adding music from everything I use including icloud and it's very fast at doing so. Let's see if they take action on your very accurate suggestions. Merry Christmas : )
I believe their Flexible beat grids are a game changer. Once they support more controllers with wave forms, I will consider changing over from Rekordbox. Until then, I will use it as my secondary software. Also, the software should give you the ability to set your Hot Cues in Chronological order such as in VDJ. I also agree the pad pages should change in the UI when switching modes. The Looper is interesting like Traktor's Remix Decks without as many options/features to leverage like the Remix Decks which makes it gimmicky.
You nailed when you said "Improve the quality of the program, maybe less gimmicks." They focused on the gimmicks instead of the "meat and potatoes" of the program. The gimmicks in this software are nice, but regular gigging DJs aren't really looking for gimmicks- it's reliability and ease of use. That everything will work the way it is supposed to at the gig, that everything is easy to find and figure out. You don't really need those gimmicks and will use them less and less as you progress. So many companies don't get that....... It's like they stick a bunch of toys on the things and say "Hey look at this!" to distract from the fact that all is not so good when you look under the hood.
I thought of a really great use for djpro's flexible beat grids! ....So if you're like me and you have tons of old vinyl rips that you want to BEAT GRID, only to find the BPM drifts after a minute or so (making the beat grid unusable due to Wow & Flutter) All now can be fixed by 1) beatgrid vinyl rip with djay pro 2) sync vinyl rip to a digital audio track with perfect BPM (close as you can to the original vinyl BPM) 3) now record the audio playback from the newly synced vinyl rip 4) import new version to any DJ software and set a perfect beat grid
I am a djay fan from 2016 and i think the big issue in the djay pro is the reliability, im still using the old one coz its still connected to Spotify… the new one with tidal and its bad… they made huge marketing on separated stems.. i tested last week and it still glitch or stop the song when u play around with stems. Some new features r great but still not reliable… also alot of problems with many machines specially the xdj , and it always stop responding in the middle of a gig. So no way im using djay pro until they fix the reliability.
Here In India we don't have an option to select a song from the folder on an android. Whis they would update is soon, I just love the app been using it frm decades
Between these 2 open platforms I would choose VDJ over Djay Pro for a few reasons. 1. Integration - VDJ dominates this area way better on hardware and software. On controllers with displays like the ddj1000/ 800/ flx10, u lose many simple features on the jog displays like waveforms, album art and cuepoints with djay while they're maintained and work as intended with VDJ. Same can be said about the FX strip - it don't work in djay, but it does in VDJ. 2. Pad modes/ Pad pages - while the pad pages work in djay pro, they don't show the functions on the UI for the pad page you're using. So u hv to play around and memorize the buttons under the pad pages. Not an issue in VDJ. So it's way easier to make a mistake during a live set using djay pro. 3. Stems are better than serato in djay pro, but not as good and it is on VDJ and there is no pads mapped i've found to work the stems by default in djay pro. 4. Library management in VDJ is way better. U can move, copy, delete, rename any files in VDJ without having to put it in a playlist or crate. That's all needed to be said on that. Overall i would say Djay is reliable software and their BPM detection is ahead of the rest hands down. It's like a simpler form of VDJ in layman terms but lacking a lot to make the cut for my workflow.
Great video as always. I really want to run my entire library into djay to analyze beatgrids and have them save into the metadata so I can use it with any platform. There must be a hack for this
Sadly, Android has its own world of pain when it comes to pro audio which is not the fault of the companies who would love to be able to create audio apps more easily for Android.
Yea I think library is important DJs I know are petrified of losing their library settings and having to redo any bit of that. If they are going to switch from what they have to DJay they need to be coming to something at least as good. For someone new coming into it, you don't want to start out behind as the library jugglign is arguably more important to have working right than beatgrids made a little fancier which all the competition does even if slightly less well. ..and like the article mentioned.. a purchase option. I and many I know refuse to add more subscription services. Its just too expensive and too bothersome worrying about being current, refreshing the license and all that.
Haha yea is true. I'm more tech oriented than many of my DJ friends, but I'm newer at it than them as well. You touched on a major piece of that in the vid. When you're live things just have to work. And most often simplicity breeds reliability. @@digitaldjtips
Phil...great channel.Djpro has a feature Liquid Beatgrid that means that you can lock everything to for example two human drummed tracks that are not steady to one bpm.Can you make a video so that this feature is tested en that everyone can see the use of this function.I have not seen the function in action.Im sure if people see, the they blown away.So on deck one a disco track with human live drum and deck 2 also a disco track with a human live drum and with the use of Liquid Beatgrid everything is locked and perfect in time.
Djay pro doesn't have the ability to read serato crates from an external drive, only internal (confirmed by support). This a bummer for me because i maintain my library in Serato, which also detects my crates in VDJ, as well as reading tags scanned from MIxed in Key. My other issues are not being able to use the crossfader FX in external mode with my ddj 1000srt. I have to switch to internal which makes me have to midi all the functions myself, doable but a pain. In internal mode i can't seem to get all 4 channels working. Beyond that the platters have too much resistance in the software when juggling. Pulling back on the platter takes more effort than in Serato or VDJ. I want to like Djay pro but until i can get the performance with my controller and library sorted out, its more like a side chick.
Why are you saying sorry? And you're right, but that is owned by Apple, and is way behind Ableton and even FL Studio among DJ/producers (good though it is).
Hi Phil, I'm totally agree with you. I'm started Djing in the latest 80s. Now I'm using vinyls, and DVS. I love very DJay Pro, I 'm was happy and I have waited for long time for DVS compatibility with DJay Pro. But for now with this new update (v.5) is terrible to me. My $5k gear is not enough to use new FX crossfader features, but a 1k controller good enough for that, I feel it is not fair from Algoriddim, because they are listed that mixer (Xone 96) what I have use in their natively supported list. Do you know what the word fake DJ means, Its for people who don't want to learn the craft and jump right in and get the same gratitude as a DJ who has been learning for years. Apart from that it take all the fun out of DJing.
@@digitaldjtips It is all about the money we used to make. As a nightclub DJ I was making 300 pounds a night, now they pay DJs 100 pounds a night and let them use virtual DJs and MP3s. In my day that was a big no-no, so yes the tech is good but for that tech, it will cost you in the long run. I am a retired DJ now and just DJ in my studio as a hobby making mixes and music videos.
I actually really like some of the automation in DJay Pro. Been Djing 25 yrs… and my creativity window has opened up because im not having to put so much focus on some of the tiny little things anymore. I think a couple of features need some tweaking for it to be A1 official. Secondary sort would be nice, better bpm analyze algorithm (for the newer slow rap, lots of doubled bpms), and external hard drive support for ipad. Other than that, DJay pro has made djing fun and creative again
I've been a huge supporter of Djay Pro since 2018. Everybody keeps asking me "what's this software? why are you using it?"... I think a lot of DJs are just too comfortable in their current workflows and won't change. The new generation of DJs is the target that djay Pro should focus on
biggest issue i have with it is the subscription, I own the AI vinyl BUT i cant use them without paying? its disgusting to me because that vinyl cant do anything without paying to use, if it dosent change ill just sell the vinyl because its literally useless without a subscription
I like DJay pro because they’re willing to experiment. One of my favorite guitar players said “If it ain’t broke, don’t play it.” Which I think encapsulates the punk ethos perfectly. I think there’s room for one brand to fly in the face of convention and do things their own way. Their software has effed me over a few times, but I’ve overcome it because I know how to handle problems in real time. Love the channel. The basics!!! I'm a PC user editing track doesn't work, connection to the controller is slow without Internet connection, Library is terrible. I hate serato search, and Dj uses the same way. Subscription OMG!!!!! STAB ME!!!! I rather buy the program and pay for the big updates, this subscription model.is the worst
It comes pretty close to VDJ. I’d like more UI customization (some things are too large on screen that I’d like to make smaller to give more visual real estate for other things). Itll also need more video codec support - VDJ seems able to play more videos that Djay pro can’t.

DJay Pro is basic yet slick looking but the oversized buttons and layout could be modified. The library management system and lack of settings needs attention. Hopefully they shrink things down a bit and offer more settings in the future. I have always had a love for this software but it's just not there yet after it's most recent update.
I think Algoriddim established Djay Pro as a great app, which it is but not necessarily seen as a great bit of software. It was possibly seen much as a beginners software as it was so easy to lay your hands on and use straight off your phone.
So its strength could also be its weakness? Fixing up some of the things people are talking about here could definitely help with that though, we think.
Rekordbox has done a good job of catching up with Serato, but yeah, DJs do just want to "jump on the decks and play" - it's like we say, a DJ system should be seen as a musical instrument, not a tech project.

I have the Mixon 4. Bought the XDJ-XZ with Rekordbox. That's in another league. Still plan to use both though.

We think the fluid beatgrids are the best new feature they've introduced in years

Yes, this is a trick that you can do with any software that offers flexible grids too although it takes a bit longer, ie Serato, Ableton.

One of our points.
Between these 2 open platforms I would choose VDJ over Djay Pro for a few reasons.

I totally agree Phil, DJ Pro is definitely biased to Apple, and if they're not careful, this will be their downfall! I strictly use a Samsung Tablet.

One thing we know is that the developers do keep a close eye on comments, so what you are saying will be heard.

DVS is different to Midi though, it's the same with other brands too. That said there may well be a solution here, let's hope!

VirtualDJ is very good at video, you're right.
There was a time when people thought LOOPS & CUE POINTS were gimmicks and now these features are fundamental in the way we DJ today.

Rekordbox has done a good job of catching up with Serato, but yeah, DJs do just want to "jump on the decks and play" - it's like we say, a DJ system should be seen as a musical instrument, not a tech project.
