    Winter camping is my favourite. No hot weather, no people and no bugs. I camp in my tent or the back of my truck. Thinking of getting a real truck camper if I can find one that fits my Nissan Frontier. Thanks for the great video.

    Yes, $35 is very high, too high.

  • @doughutchison6382
    @doughutchison6382 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Yeah, $35 for an electric service camp site is high. Fees for Texas State Parks on electric only sites is $15-$20 per night. $25 for full hook ups with sewer. However, an annual park pass to gain entry to the park is $70. Without a pass it’s $8 per day per person (children under 13 are free). So, if you and Mandy arrive at a Texas state park without an annual pass it would cost $16 plus $15-$20 for your campsite. So, $31-$36 per night for electric only. Not cheap. With our annual park pass they knock off a few bucks on the camp sites. We feel your pain.
    The cheapest places to stay here are Corps of Engineers parks. With our senior lifetime National park pass it’s around $15 per night. Cheaper in some COE parks.

    Another great camp site find, though on the expensive side. It's was fantastic that you had it all to your little lonesome, that's the way I like to camp, being away from people. Everything I do, and when I do it, is arranged around the least busiest times for the same reason. I NEVER stand in line for anything! The sunset was gorgeous, too. I cannot wait until we're able to get our camper because we are SO ready to get out there; sadly, we have to wait a little longer, until then, we'll live vicariously through your excellent videos! See ya' next week, enjoy your family Christmas gathering!

    “What a lovely surprise to discover how unlonely being alone can be”. What great quote. I probably would have stayed there for one night being as I was already there but man, $35 for winter camping seems pretty steep, but then again, you did have the whole place to yourself, and what a cool campfire in the old “church “ building 😊. $35 is cheap if you ask me....check out some of the privately owned camp grounds. $35 is what we pay here in Virginia for the state parks and I am happy to pay that.

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good point I never considered. I hear places like KOA and others can be expensive. Ive seen some people on TH-cam pay 75 dollars or more per night. I guess the cost ( high or low) is relative to where you are. The National Forest campgrounds in this area are between 9 and 17 bucks a night, or free for a rustic site. We also have tons of remote camping up here. But they are not setup for larger campers like this park was. I guess you get what you pay for.

  • @xventureoutdoors
    @xventureoutdoors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yeah, rent is too high! I was there a couple years ago and wanna say it was close to that price if not the same. Motel 6 prices. Lol

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Right! They will be pricing themselves out of customs. Some people have big payments on there campers plus all the other fees that comes along with State Parks. It's getting cheeper to rent a hotel and visit free city and county parks.

    Great video Kenny!! My wife and I found your channel about a year ago, just after we sold our travel trailer and ordered a Truck Camper. We're totally jealous of all the dispersed camping you get to do. In Ohio we don't have much of that, it's mainly campgrounds (ugh, so many people). Thanks for all the great videos, we always look forward to Tuesdays now.

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. The good news is with winter camping season ahead the campgrounds will finally be empty. I prefer finding dispersed locations throughout the forest to camp, but some of these Parks have beautiful hiking. I'm looking forward to seeing some frozen snowy waterfalls soon.

    Welcome to Kenny Of All Trades State Park! That was awesome to have the whole park to yourself. I have to agree that their fee was sky-high......wow. I could see $20 for a site with electric during the busy season but off season I would think $15 with electric would be fair.
    The hall was awesome, I bet they have some weddings there. Beautiful building though.....would be a awesome place to watch The Shining LOL I'll bet it hurt not having your coffee.......day just doesn't start right without the Folgers ;)

    Hi Kenny, we have missed seeing you the past few weeks, our fault. Fred and I loved your intro and the music that you chose. Your editing is getting better and better. ❤ Many of the State Park Campsites are expensive of course there are some exceptions along the way. We lost one of our turnbuckles last week and then we remembered you saying that you drove with out one for a bit. That made us feel better to think about as we waited for the part to come in the mail. So, thank you for sharing that information. That is so me (Mary) to walk down that far and have left the camera...Then forget major items for the trip. I had to chuckle out loud knowing that I am not alone in the forgetful department. The sunset and moon shot were stunning. Loved that cool building late at night with a fire. No need to be scared you are with a few thousand people in a creepy, weird sort of way. One thing about missing the past two weeks is we get to watch the part one and part two back to back. Mary 💕 Fred

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Mary,
      I think I went 3 weeks, maybe even a month missing the rear tie-down. I could watch the videos to find out for sure. I think it was from the trip up north with Mandi during Grouse hunting season. That video has struggled to get views.
      I'm gonna be doing some ice fishing tomorrow morning. I hope to have enough footage for a video. I drove out to the lake tonight but it's so dark I can't see what I'm doing. My Gopro's don't do well in low light either. I think I'll start recording the video tomorrow morning. It's super pieceful out here. I just went on a little walk in the woods. The snow makes everything so quiet. Tuesday you will see a video ibrecorded last week. I know I said in the last video I was taking a weekend off to spend with family, but I was able to sneak in a trip too. So now I'm a week ahead on videos. It gives me more time to edit this way.

    • @TheEdelKampers
      @TheEdelKampers ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KennyOfAllTrades You are doing so well with your videos and views. You work hard on your channel and it shows. The Go Pro does not seem to work that well in the dark. Fred is ordering a light for ours to see if that helps. Time will tell. Living full time and roaming the country makes it hard for us to get mail at times. Walking in the woods is so relaxing to me. I go out hiking and exploring by myself a lot and like you I don't mind. I have been doing it since I was a little girl. It is where I unwind and talk to God. So peaceful. I am sure it gives Fred a break from when I hike and explore. 🤣 I used to feel guilty going out and exploring by myself and then I realized he is fine with his me time. A win, win. Mary 💕 Fred

    $35 is pretty standard these days at most state parks. At least they aren’t charging a $7/night utility fee like FL does. That said, as a resident, most states give a 50% discount. You should see if MN does too. Another good video. Thx

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll look into that. I have the yearly park pass too. Otherwise I'd have to pay the 35 dollars to camp and a 7 dollar a day park fee. The two day one night total would be 49 dollars to camp one night. I'll look into a resident discount.

    The state park here in Texas we volunteer at is $4 entry fee. $10 for no amenities $12 for water and $22 for water/electric. No fishing license required. $70 for a yearly pass and it’s going up to $95 in September. We are at Lake Arrowhead in Wichita Falls Texas. They just put down new roads throughout and poured level concrete slabs to put your rvs on. It’s a great park.

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds great. My family used to go camping when I was a kid. That's what we could afford. Now some campsites charge more than a hotel. It's not as affordable as it once was. I'm glad to hear Texas has it figured out.

    Hi Kenny! I'm a new viewer 😀 and really LOVE your vids! I'm also from MN (central) and just bought a popup truck camper. This summer will be my first time using it. I have a RV for pulling my horse trailer. I haul a horse to camp with and actually camped at the other part of St Croix state park..on the horse trail center. I agree..$35 a night is steep...and the only time I feel I'm getting my money's worth is hot days when I'm running my air conditioner..that would be too hard while boon docking. I love all the horse trails there and wild river state park is another good one. I also have a fat tire ebike (Juiced brand) and absolutely LOVE it..keep the video coming! You are so inspiring to watch winter camping. Maybe I will venture out with mine 🤔. Good advice- Be kind, Be honest and hope to see you down the road!! Take care

      I didn't realize camping was getting that expensive. Plus 7 dollars a day if you dont buy annual parking pass. That brings the total to 49 bucks for 1 night. Check-in at 4pm and checkout at 11am. Camping is turning into a luxury vacation. I started camping because I couldn't afford hotels. I guess I haven't stayed in State Parks much though. • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol You are right though, I spend to much time looking for the perfect spot. I have to remind myself that I only have one night a week to make these videos.
      As far as camera equipment I use the Gopro 10 for about 90% of my filming and a Gopro 9 to catch the other shots.
      I have a DJI Osmo Action, I don't use it much because I don't like that I can see a difference in footage quality. There both good, just a difference in color science.
      I have a Panasonic G9 that I thought I was going to use more. Unfortunately I'm not good with cameras and don't understand how to use it. I have spent countless hours trying to learn it, but when I'm in the feild I get more bad footage then good. It's not the camera, it's me.
      I have a love hate relationship with Gopros. The truth is they are absolute garbage and extremely unreliable. I have lost multiple videos because the footage becomes corrupt. They are awesome when they work. But be ready for glitches.
      In this video I almost threw away the Gopros. You can see at the end of the video I was so frustrated.

    • @KennyOfAllTrades

      Yes, they do have special hunts inside the park. The state forest is across the road with regular hunting regulations. Rifle season for deer is over now. It ended the week before i was uo there. I did see a few campsites had tire tracks in the snow, I assume those were from hunters.

      Minnesota has 66 State Parks in total. Out of them you can winter camp at 25 of them. Not all sites are open in the campgrounds, only selected sites are plowed out. Some campgrounds with 200 sites will only have 10 open during the winter months.
