it is always sad when a classic car is parted out, but the knowledge that the parts keeps others on the road helps

The Corvette Ben, you were such a good caretaker. I remember when my C3 Corvette, Sporkle has to have her first operation. She had this heart attack and she hardly groaned and groaned and groaned. I thought she was going to stop eating, stop exercising, or stop breathing, because she was groaning with a heart attack and I was so worried. It turned out that she had that inflammation in her heart, and that forced her to groan very hard and lie down. Then, she had her first operation. It was super painful to see. Then, she lost her heart. I was still worried. And that's it. That's that day I remember.

You have become such an expert on these cars over the years...parting out wrecks help keep the costs down for the restoration of decent cars. Great to see you still loving and working on the C3s- Merry Christmas to you and your family!

In states that use road salt the middle of the road or inside lane on an a two lane road gets the biggest buildup of salt and that is why the drivers side of a car or truck sees the most rust usually. It could be someone drove that one in the winter extensively in a salt state.

I'd bet there was a lot of mouse nest up in that frame rail. Between the mouse pee and holding water it would do that to the frame pretty quickly and easily.

Yes it was a very ugly frame rail that killed the '77. The body damage would be a nightmare as that fiberglass that age shatters internally and finding all the breaks would be awful. It is best used as a parts car as you decided. Good call.

The New York comment hurt me lol i messaged you awhile ago about my 81 that i am way to stupid to fix but my frame is rust free and the birdcage looks great for a car that i purchased from a guy in NY lol now if i could just get the trailing arms off i would have an awesome 81 vette with a 396 chugging down the highway 🤣

In this time we are in and all the folks in the peanut gallery, a person can't comb ones own hair, without someone telling you that you are doing it all wrong and just what are you thinking doing it that way. Serenity now.

While sad, a once nice car was totaled and destined to become a parts car, it will live on in others. Without any parts cars, so many others would be joining them in a salvage yard, a tree row, or field. Keep in mind that fingerless is extremely repairable. If done correctly, no body filler would be needed, and fiberglass panels can be as good as new again. If not in your wheelhouse of skills, maybe collaborate or talk to someone who works with fiberglass boats and body panels? Those damaged body panels can be restored and used on other cars, or better yet, sold for money to go into your future projects..

WAY back in the day [early 1990s], a friend's 1972 Stingray Coupe up in the Mitten State, he noticed the windshield frame was moving when he drove it or took the T-Tops on or off. Water had worked its way behind the chrome trim around the windshield and rotted out the frame all around the windshield and sections of the firewall it was mounted too. Sadly, it was so far gone by the time he found it, it met the same fate as your Blue Coupe faces now.

I change those mono rear leaf spring to coilovers for a better ride on any corvette I have owned. I have my dream better now, a 04 c5 zo6. So I have both my dream cars the c5 and a 65 Ford f100, 391, 4 speed on the floor, my grandpa custom ordered truck brand new.

I have a theory. if it's a New York car, then you would see rust on the driver's side if he parked on the right side of the street and during the winter the snow is plowed to the right side of the street. that may have been the cause but, I'm just speculating. I truly enjoy your channel and I hope in the future you will post more content. Merry Christmas to you and yours

That frame rot is a death sentence for all but the rarest cars. A C3 vette ain't that. Parts cars keep other cars on the road, I don't don't know why people get bent out of shape about it. It's a wealth of parts for the survivors that are NOT rotten. Its not wasting, it's just another aspect of preservation.

I thought1977 had blue engines - mine does.
Do you have a video explaining that whole deal?

    • @texan01
      @texan01 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

77 did have blue engines, but this ones had a swap over the decades, or someone wanted an orange paint.
It’s not anything that can’t be fixed with a couple rattle cans of paint.

I have a question that maybe you can help me with. New wiring harness, new turn signal harness in my 1977. Not completely put back together yet because I am hoping to put it together once! LOL! Anyway, it is drivable now and the first trip out I pushed the left turn signal and the horn blew once and later on did it again. Backing it into the driveway it blew 3 times without bumping the horn at all. What do you think I am missing?

That is the kind of car where some youtube watchers claim that this would be "an easy fix". Yeah sure.
Once I really got boiling mad when an idiot stated that seeing a Mustang that was in a junkyard in the North East. It had been there for at least Fourty years and I bet eighty % of the body including everything far of the ground was gone. It looked like a strainer and the body was mainly held together by the remainig paint. I had to comment: "I bet you have never worked on any car yourself". Of course I never received an answer.
