  • In this excerpt from the February 2018 episode of Ask the Vet ( • Ask the Vet - Corn oil... ), Dr. Gray and SmartPaker Sarah explain how you know if your horse has been cooled out enough after a hard workout in cold weather. They also give you some products and materials to consider for cooling out your own horse.

What outside temps are these tips for? How cold does it have to be to need to do this cool down regimen?

#AsktheVetVideo Now that summers coming up my horse is completely irritated by the flies. I have a fly sheet, boots, and a mask as well as loads of fly spray. It just doesn’t seem to work. My horse either gets to sweaty with all the sheets, boots and masks or they just don’t keep the bugs away. Are there any alternative options to keep my horse healthy and happy or recommended products that keep the flies away without getting her sweaty and uncomfortable. (Its extremely difficult because she needs o be covered from head to toe because of her melanomas, the sun could cause more)

Ruby Lynch I’ve tried spraying a mix of apple cider vinegar & water on both me and my horses. You don’t have to worry about chemicals, and you can spray and reapply as much as you need. It’s surprisingly effective!
Good luck! Fly season is the worst

#AsktheVetVideo why are horses more spooky in the winter than the summer? My horse never spooked when I purchased her last June but now every ride she spooks at either leaves, or dirt, twigs and trees.
