After experiencing the brilliant new Audi RS4 Avant at the press launch, I've been desperate to get my hands on one to "live with". Audi UK very kindly had no issues with me stealing this stunning Sonoma Green one for 10 days. I wanted to actually use the B9 RS4 as my actual daily, with family airport runs, moving tyres and wheels around it soon became very useful. It soon became very clear that aside from its rather small seats, Audi have made a very, very good package here!

Cracking review Joe. Really want that car. How does it compare to an M4? Was lucky enough to drive a CS last week. Epic!
I've had one for 6 months. Replaced a 991c2s and 535d. Doesn't have the emotion of the 911 but agree it's a great car. Have to try very hard to get the tail to wag even slightly though. Just seems to take everything in its stride.

your brilliant review helped me to decide to buy RS4. Im getting my today. Full spec, 121000 Eur - but, priced down to 79.990 :) I could not pick the colour as this was a car from dealership. Mine is Navarro Blue /I guess the price was based on 2 factors... 1- Emission norm valid in our country in few days, 2- new facelift coming up in few days/weeks...but same as you I prefer this interior/. I heard the exhaust. I actually thought, it will be much quieter based on many reviews but i think its loud enough and like the sound of it. So..its 3:50am /can not sleep for obvious reason :) / and looking forward to feel the power and joy from new family member. Thanks for review.

Couldn’t agree more with the point you made about the new Audi interiors in the A6s etc. The A4s interior is the perfect spot. Looks awesome an the usability is real good

Nice job Joe, another non BMW review that you have nailed, I bought my Merc C43 Coupe on the back of your review of that car. Yes you love your BMW but you were impartial in the C43 and RS4 reviews informing the viewing to both the pro and negative points of the cars. Keep up the great work 👍
Excellent video as always joe, cracked me up at the end! You give such a detailed review mate, and a real world idea of what the car would be like to own. One thing people usually forget to include in their vids extensively anyway.

Great review. I have a 7.5 Golf R for daily and 911 GTS for weekends and have been thinking about chnaging the Golf for the RS4 but not convinced it’s worth £40k more
Great review Joe. Totally agree on the interior. I hope that all manufacturers move away from the touch screen obsession that currently exists. It's like they come up with these ideas in a bubble. They are the experts on the mechanicals, but their customers are the experts on usability.
Great review. Having now done 6500 mls in mine it just gets better and better. I’ve averaged 29.9mpg and like you my best single trip was just over 39mpg. I’ve had an M3 and a B8.5 and the B9 is in another league. For me it’s the Carbon version all the way the wheels are simply stunning and you do get quite a few more goodies.
Definitely suits that green. Stunning. 20:45, Joe decides to destroy some of the roadside grass/dirt etc etc...... 😎😎
Love the RS4 so much! Did you know despite the Carbon edition being £10k cash price more, believe it or not due to future residual values on a PCP finance deal it is cheaper per month!! Crazy!
Horsepower Hub i found this to be the case when i bought my AMG and added the carbon interior trim
14:26 so true, i remember seeing a brand new tesla at a services and the door trim didn't match by about a centimetre.

Best review of a B9 RS4 I have seen Joe. Would def consider one when I change the RS3. Love the carbon and green however the black optic pack works better compared to the Matt chrome I think.

This car is absolutely on my dream car list. However, I wouldn't have it in that green I'm afraid, I'm not a fan! I spotted a lovely grey one on Autotrader just now that looks perfect, with the blackened out trim too. Absolutely hate the chrome/silver on the front of this one, and the stripe around the windows. It's just personal preference though! Great review, thanks!
I always want all the chrome blacked out on Audis. I think this green with black details would look amazing. But yes, Nardo or Daytona Grey is 👌🏻😍
@@AJtheSwede I'd like to see the green with blacked out trim, as I think it'd suit my tastes better, but I still find the green a bit much. I agree with Nardo/Daytona though, I think they look great.
g9icy I strongly recommend the Daytona Grey Pearl that Audi uses on several models. My S3 in this colour looks terrific in all light levels.

As another self-confessed BMW fanboi I have to say this RS4, the RS6 and AMG C63S present very tempting alternatives. Great unbiased review Joe, I liked the negatives highlighted as much as the vastly longer list of positives. I wonder if that Head Up Display trim could be re-trimmed to make it less of an ugly nuisance.
The more I see Sonoma Green, the more I like it. 29 m.p.h. never looked so good. Looking forward to your M2 Comp. vids.

The only other must have option is matrix LED headlights..they are just amazing.
I couldn't agree more that Audi have gone backwards with their MMI design. I've just come from a Macan S with a touchscreen to an S3 with virtual cockpit and the same MMI as the RS4..it's just fantastic to use..and no more bloody fingerprints on the display!😁

Cheers for the review Joe. Agree, looks awesome in the green. Not to ruin it too much but I can really imagine this with gold wheels and slightly lowered with spacers to bring the wheels out a bit. In my opinion it’d look ace 👌👍

Thanks for this review, Joe and for mentioning the Stelvio which seems like the only other comparable rival. I thought that it was simply a choice over Head (RS4) over Heart (SQF) but I starting to see that the RS4 may not be as soulless as normally perceived. Although it has been reviewed by the whole TH-cam squad it has been hard to find thorough reviews so I'm glad Audi UK gave you one for a prolonged period as your reviews are always top notch! It would be nice to have a video of more of your thoughts about both cars ( You're Italian videos with the SQF were Ace) Please, let us know if this is something you may do :)
I doubt there would be a head to head against both as the SQF is pitched as a sports SUV but in reality, would be bought by people looking for an all wheel drive superwagon.

Good review Joe! To be fair, the new audi interiors (e.g. A7) they are harder to use but I think its worth it due to the fact that it looks so good

Spot on regarding the dual displays in the newer Audi's, this is by far a lot better imho too. Next car is going to be a difficult choice (Audi RS4, BMW X3M, Alfa Stelvio QF or who knows, BMW M3 Touring...). Luckily there's still quite some time left to choose...
I have the current RS6 got a best 39.7 mpg on a motorway run..... love it to death will never sell it, its what I call the Swiss army knife of cars because it does everything. Matrix headlights and Cc brakes are a treasure.... the RS4 is the best car for english back roads...

If I'm honest the RS4 has always been my fav car but slightly expensive, the M140i I just bought is blowing me away (thanks for your input 👍🏻 so happy with it mate) but what would You choose out of the RS4,M3 or M4..? 2017 335d, although still very happy with that for the time being.
I'm lucky enough to own one in red. Love it to bits and don't see many on the road either. Previously owned F80 M3 and (in the wet) the RS4 simply blows it away. Great practicality too makes it an amazing package to own. Last thing for me is no-one seems to take any offence at it ... doesn't draw the wrong kind of attention ... so far at least!
Lovely review Joe. Its a lovely car. Personally owning a golf R with dare I say all the options minus 19" wheels, I'm thoroughly satisfied (for the moment anyway). I hear people say the s3 is just the same car with a better interior and I must say its a fair comment up to a point. The relation to this video (or the car herein) is these imho after thoughts of infotainment screens as in a tablet stuck to the dash that just does not integrate well and ruins the flow IMO. Ill be glad to see this trend go away across the makes and models I like. Pleasure to watch and thanks :)

Hi Joe, well done, great review, I was interested in seeing it as I have owned the carbon edition for the last five months, I totally agree with you on the HUD, its the one thing that annoys me!! stupidly I spec'd a retractable tow hook which meant that I could not have the full adaptive suspension pack (I use a bike rack) I found that in comfort the car was very bouncy so for standard driving I just set it in auto which seems pretty much bang on, when overtaking in dynamic I just can't help grinning, fab car.

I agree with you about the panoramic roof, my Skoda Octavia Vrs estate has one and it transforms the inside. I too love that Green. Where did you shoot the video? The roads look good and not much traffic

He's already owned the F80 as well as the E92 M3. His girlfriend Emma owns the E92 M3. If anything I would suspect the M2 Competition. Or at least I would like that also for him. Joe already ordered his to Replace his M140 I

And just a random thought: what if they’ve done a RS4 TDI? :D i mean there was a RS5 TDI concept... yes it wouldn’t have a great sound and won’t be really emotional.. but this would be a great motorway car and a popular high class company car, for the better agents :D

Nice one Joe. How do you compare the interior sound insulation in Audi compared to BMW? Have to say my M240i the tyre road noise is a little loud at times. I drove my brothers Lexus is350 and I was shocked at how quiet it was in there.
Thank you! Yeah its far more insulated compared to a M240i, but a M3 is more insulted than a 240 too... Lexus is all about tranquility, part of the 140/240 enjoyment is how raw they are as modern cars I guess... Cheers

Hi Joe, I can tell you have fallen in love with this Audi RS4 and the reasons are clear could Mr BMW being converted to Mr Audi RS you have already stated prior you love the RS6 again I get that and I also love this car its one sexy looking car and the green makes it pop. I Just feel BMW need to do more to close the gap and make a fast wagon. Great video Joe

I think you were a bit too exited about the Green colour, its not very nice at all, but colours very subjective.
It also really doesn't sound very good at all, inside a little muffled, outside again too muffled.
I like your attention to detail on the review overall.
