    Finally a straight forward and simple answer for this! So many garbage videos and videos that are too expansive. Thank you for sharing concise and easy to understand content!

    Had a rope failure a few months ago because the original rigging did not use this knot. Just got it rigged up properly and this knot made it easy!

      I get where you’re coming from. I think a square knot would hold just fine. I think this is just a more clean way to splice it. I’m guessing this method may be easier in the long term if you wanted to undo it.

    Why not just tie a Zeppelin Bend? It's just as secure, and you can actually untie it even after it has been reefed on by the wind etc.

    • @JohnGreen_US
      @JohnGreen_US 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two reasons: First, esthetically the triple fisherman's knot, shown here, is more attractive & the working ends end exit parallel to the line, which could be taped-off with white electrical tape for an even more professional finish. Second, there is no need for an easy un-tie knot, here. It stays tied until the rope is replaced. BTW, the Zeppelin Bend is my favorite but it's not the best choice in all cases.

    there are six knots you need to secure the rope sine I am an Eagle I know all of them. The first is the classic Square Knot after you pull the old rope out you need to secure the ends with a square knot while it is on the ground. the second is a double square knot also called a fishing knot this makes sure it does not come unhooked. the third is a trucker hitch you use this to secure the knot as a safety. the final three knots are used to secure the clips the first clip you use a bowline the second a timber hitch and you use a taunt line to straighten everything up until you can bind the rope. you repeat if you have a second flag. once you have the rope secure you splice above the knot and wrap it in tape then you burn it to secure it to the pole.
