I didn't read this book but was interested because I'm reading q, or master class. Your comment on main characters leaving the country instead of staying reminded me of the phenomenon "brain drain" maybe not the writers intention but something you see so much now, those who can flee their country in turmoil and don't stay to rebuild their own country but choose to give themselves, or specifically their children, a better life elsewhere.
