- Tool-assisted superplay (TAS) of Mario Bros Arcade (2 players) (36 phases)
Goal of the TAS:
-Have fun with two players
--Notes:
-Phase 36 is the same as phase 29. The game loops phases 29 to 35 indefinitely.
-I did not plan in advance what I would do in the TAS. I improvised almost every phases.
-Sometime the collision between Mario/Luigi and a moving coin is not detected correctly. (6:15)

Ah, just as in their daily lives, we see Luigi working equally hard and pulling his weight, only to have Mario wind up with more credit in the end. Of course Mario DOES do a great job, but still.

2:37 Thought I've seen everything there is to see in this game but I've never seen a guy go through the platform.
That's the fun of TAS, to discover new things in old games. I don't know if this trick is possible in real life, it requires precise timing. Only a good player like you could maybe try it out to see if this is just a TAS trick.

@@Prog61 The craziest thing we did in partners is Ultimate Hardest No POW Doubles. It involves playing a 2 player game on the hardest settings and we eliminate the POW as soon as it shows up or during the bonus stage. Our goal was to break 1 Million and It was the hardest thing we ever achieved. I have the video link on my youtube or I can paste it here if you like. BTW, the more I think about it, it would be super cool to see you create a TAS Ultimate Hardest No POW Doubles. Trust me, that is such a challenge and would be so cool to see you make it look easy.
I saw some of the videos on your channel, good job. For a TAS of Mario on the hardest setting I think it would be fun to watch, I will put this on my list.

It was hilarious to me. It was when I first listened and watched the Super Mario brother's supershow episode. It's where the ape calls him MARZAN. Mario first went berserk when he had his memory first erased.

Mario Bros. Special is the true sequel, along with the spinoff Punch Ball Mario Bros. It ended with Mario Clash on the Virtual Boy. Only the first game had an arcade version.
Super Mario Bros. is a separate series unto itself, not a sequel.
I only learned about this game while play MB3 and we use to try and kill each other to see who was king lol.

With a TAS editor, you can modify the player's movement for each frame. A video like this takes about a week of work.
It's amazing how efficient their play is. A great deal of the time they're waiting patiently. And they frequently don't immediately take out enemies even though they could. You say the goal was to have fun. Were you thinking about the score or speed at all?
It belongs in the TAS category referred to as "Playaround."
It is optimized gameplay, just not for speed or score.

What was the sound chip on these old machines?
I believe Mario Bros. machines use the same sound chip as the NES does. I know Donkey Kong 3 does.

The sound effects are so annoying. They're either scritchy or muffled.
It was a low-bitrate monoarual sound. It wasn't uncommon at the time.
