    I wrote to Arteza and they told me that 1 is excellent and 3 is good, but if you can trust the LF I don't know. I don't know if they are any good to use for an artist, but to a colorist painting in a coloring book, they are way better than any brand in their price range :)

    I have these pencils and I can honestly say I really like them, they are cheap, and are great for human portraits. I like them so much I bought the acrylic paints, fine liners and ink based brush pens. If the piece is put behind glass the light fastness should be up to 100 years. Loved your work and thanks for the review.

      eduardo anta they are beautiful, I really have nothing negative to say about the acrylics, I bought the pack of 60 and the colour range is gorgeous (I don't have any involvement with arteza except as a customer by the way) I'd recommend them to anybody.

    • @morgothlotr1573

      Lightfast ratings are done under museum conditions that means that UV glass has already been taken into account. The glass will not change the rating and it would still be in poor taste to sell.

    Amie, I just read most of the comments after watching your fabulous drawing. I am so happy that you reviewed these pencils, because now I can breath easier, knowing that you agree in that, these are wonderful. I couldn't believe the quality in regards to the price. Dena, my daughter, unboxed her Arteza stuff and then decided to purchase a set; now after reading and watching you, I am going to draw with confidence. Thank you so much.

    What a fabulous review on Arteza colouring pencils. I am on a bit of a tight budget at the moemnt, but I am thinking of buying the 120 Arteza set. Hope I am doing the right thing, but no doubt will see in the future? I am certainly not an artist like yourself - watching you colouring these sun parakeets was just so mesmerizing and I'm in awe of your artwork. Even with the negatives on these pencils, watching what you achieved with them... has made up my mind... buy! Thank you so much for sharing xxx

    Ordered these pencils on "cyber monday" at the bargain price of £20 directly off their website rather than Amazon. They arrived yesterday (thursday) so haven't used them yet, can't wait. I also emailed them to ask if they are planning a bigger set, and yes, it is in the pipeline.

    Each pencil has a "+" symbol printed on it. The "+" symbol represents the lightfastness.
    "+ "-Excellent
    "++" -Very Good
    "+++" -Good
    "+ "-over 100 years
    "++" -50-100 years

    I think for a novice or a hobby drawer like myself, these would make a great alternative for us on a tight budget. Pitty they don't do single pencils though....maybe you can order them directly from the manufacturer. It would also be interesting to see if they do any other sets like skin tone or the earthy tones.
    Good honest review though and if you didn't want to sell that picture, I'd take it off your hands...lol only joking. Well done Amie

  • @claudiswelt.

    Hello Amie,
    Thanks for your review of Arteza pens! These are interesting to me, but I'm also not sure if they are really lightfast.
    At this low price, I can hardly imagine it.
    Have you ever drawn with Rembrandt Polycolor pens? They are thinner than the polychromos, lightfast and, except for a
    few pins, even softer than the polychromos. They have many great natural tones and can be ordered separately. However,
    they only have 78 colors. Maybe they are interesting for you or some draftsmen as a cheaper alternative!
    The birds have really succeeded you megaklasse. The colors were really so fitting!

    In light of the many positive reviews these pencils and other Arteza products have received, I wonder if the low cost is to get reviewed, build a market and then increase costs commensurate with quality. No one suggests they are on a par with Prisma or Poly's but the certainly are better than some of the other inexpensive brands. I have the Arteza water color pencils and are enjoying them very much. They suit my needs very well even though I would hope for more greens and find a few pencils choices to similar to make much difference.

I don’t like the idea of having to buy another full set to replace one or two pencils it just seems wasteful even at the very cheap price the full set sells for. I recently got Arteza pencils and am a bit dissapointed. I find them very difficult to blend, although I don't press hard. Maybe this is because of the wax in them, not sure.
    If I try to put on few layers of different colours, I finish with the muddy mess. Also I find it difficult to add small details. Not sure about them, I had really high hopes from the reviews, however I am actually much more happy with Brutfuner square pencils which I also purchased recently.
    EDIT: After using them for a bit longer I really start to enjoy them. As long as I know where I want to put my colours, they are fine. And I have to admit, the colour payoff and the quality of pencil itself are pretty amazing.

    Thank you for your well done review! I keep getting recommendations from Amazon for these pencils and was looking for an honest review from a professional. With the lack of neutral colors for my wildlife and landscapes combined with both the lack of individual pencil replacement, and lightfast issues/confusion I think I'll pass on them unless I find myself teleported to more tropical realms. I have tried their watercolor brush pens and watercolor paper as intended gifts but both were awful. The brush pens ran out after a few strokes and the paper pills horribly even with just a light wash.

      eduardo anta these are not professional grade it's only marketed as professional grade.. whereas Marco raffine is student grade I agree but their oil based Marco Renoir is far superior than arteza ...but arteza pencils wood quality is good..but the colour palette in arteza more towards oriental...i.e vibrant colours not much earth and nuetrals...

    Hi Amie! I love the sun conures that you're drawing in this review. Is there an extended video version of these on Patreon? Would love to see more! Also, just FYI, Amazon's ad says the Arteza pencils don't ship to the U.S.

    Can anyone help me? Would a varnish help the lightfastness? I really wanna try these pencils and I like cheaper options because i feel less stress drawing with them, but i wouldnt like it if my art fades away super fast :T

    Beautiful work! Too bad about the pencils... the lack of color choice and the lack of open stock and the lightfast issue. I just don’t think it’s worth it for professional artists like yourself. As I’m now writing this in May 2021 I know that our Arteza has had some recent complaints that have gone very public on other TH-cam channels. Something about pigment quality or something.... people have kind of gotten upset about that certain colors are not the same and/or same quality as before....maybe something to do with getting pigments during the pandemic? ....don’t know. At any rate thanks for this great review and again your artwork is beautiful. Jennifer from Coloring Bliss gave a very good recent review about the Arteza color pencil problem. 👍😊

    how did your light test of drawings with these pencils turn out? what did you find the number of +'s to mean?

    • @RamoArt
      @RamoArt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Newer reviews all say that more + signs means less lightfastness, so exactly the opposite to what one would expect.
      Which is actually kind of alarming because most colors seem to be rated +++. If +++++ is the worst and + is the best, +++ definitely isn't great.
      I can't help but feel like this system is meant to fool consumers into thinking these pencils are more lightfast than they are...

    These pencils are lightfast, I am a professional artist in the UK and I researched the pencils to death i always do with materials to make sure my customers get the best I can provide.
    I checked with the ASTM which set the standards and to confirm these pencils are lightfast, I do understand your reservations considering they are a relative new company, but they would be sued if they didn't conform to the standards they claim their products are.
    I was sent the Arteza Brush Pens to test, however the lightfastness of these brush pens I did question, after researching them I discovered that they were not lightfast, although on the description on many websites such as Amazon Arteza claimed they were lightfast.
    However on the box it was a bit misleading, as they are decsribed as dye-based pens which dye-ink isn't lightfast, which is why I looked into it, I contacted Arteza and they confirmed they were not lightfast and they were contacting the sellers to change the descriptions.
    So your right to be cautious but I have checked these pencils and I am currently working on a number of projects, great video by the way!.

    I have a full set of Prismas and Polychromos and other artist grade singles but I wanted to get a less expensive set for crafting. I ordered the Arteza 48 Pencil set which I assume is a student grade. I wasn’t impressed with them at all. I assume this set is their professional set? I’d like to find someone who has used both the 48 set and the 72 set to see if there is a difference.

      Yvette Williams they have two types, premium and expert. The premium ones come in a tube and expert in a tin. I haven’t personally tried the premium so can’t vouch for them 🤷‍♀️ what packaging were yours in? I must admit, going from a pencil like Polychromos or luminance, it’s a shock to the system to use the arteza experts, but after a little adjustment I found they worked and layered just as well as other artist grade materials

    I agree. Splendid review. I have already bought them - and the water colour pencils as well from Arteza - and I enjoy both sets a lot. With respect to the light fastness matter, I believe what Arteza claims, since these ratings are International standards, and they probably stem from the pigments they use. But let's put them to the test you suggest alongside Polychromos and the Luminous to see what happens. Thanks again, Amie, for a really good review. 😃☀👍

    Hi Amie, thanks for this great review, I am watercolorist artist, but since weeks I want to try pencil colors for my art, would you recommend me this Arteza or the Luminance 6901?, what I like about this is the price:quality you get, since the Luminance are quite expensive... thanks for your help!

    • @Amiehowardart
      @Amiehowardart  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teacher Mayra I’d always recommend luminance, you really can’t beat them with their quality, pigmentation and lightfast rating 💖

    Do you think arteza pencils can be mixed with prismacolor, since both are wax based? I've been thinking about the scenario where I run out of a blue from the arteza set, so I would borrow a blue from the prisma set. Do you think it would blend well? I bought a 12 pack of each black and white prismacolor pencils, so I figured I could use it for arteza, since they can't be replaced individually.

    • @GiraffeCoco

      Yeah it would, I mix different brands of pencils all the time

    • @Amiehowardart
      @Amiehowardart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely! Prismas are waxy like the arteza so they'd work wonderfully together
