  • Discover how the notorious art forger Han van Meegeren tricked the world- and the Nazis- with his counterfeit Vermeer paintings.
    --
It was one of the strangest trials in Dutch history. The defendant in a 1947 case was an art forger who had counterfeited millions of dollars worth of paintings. But he wasn’t arguing his innocence- in fact, his life depended on proving that he had committed fraud. Who was this artist, and why was he on trial for his life? Noah Charney investigates the notorious Han van Meegeren.

You have to admit forgers (forgery artists - I don’t know the correct word) deserve some kind of recognition. It takes a lot of skill to be able to copy something so well that it’s hard to tell the original from the duplicate. Not to mention that forgers often copy things with drastically different styles, with just the same amount of quality between the two.
Forgery is an art all on it’s own.

The art style is just amazing!!!! The rough textures sort of feel like colored pencils and it gives the video a really nice feel.

Off-topic, but i just wanna say the music score starting from 4:19 to the end was really good. Especially the part at 4:40. You don't notice it but the music in ted-ed videos really does add another layer to it.

Abigail Fegan yes people do often say it’s the same. But they are very different. Holland consists of 2 provinces called Zuid-Holland(South - Holland) and Noord - Holland (North - Holland). The Netherlands consists of 12 provinces and 2 of these have Holland in the name. Holland has the most tourists of the Netherlands which is one of the reason why people see Holland and the Netherlands as the same.
