    I’m a horror fan. I loved this. I can handle dark. The acting was some of the best I’ve seen in a long time. Anyone else playing any of these roles would not have worked. The cinematography was excellent. I liked the story. I am going to read the book.

      Yeah, I had a tough time for most because as real as it is to have shitty people out there that always seem to win...its tough to watch.
      I like how it all tied together to actually be closer to a religious movie. Maybe even more about war being played out in civil society.
      It's a good one that gets you thinking. Gets you sad, gets you angry, scared then satisfied. But you got to wait a while for it.
      Very well done I feel. Not for everyone.

    The Roy preacher is actually a full character in the novel killed far to early in the film adaption. In the novel he dies in the end. Theodore his limping musician dies as well. So in the film they just felt pointless only there to be killed off by the serial killers.

    Did I enjoy the movie NO, could I recommend the movie NO, did the movie have some of the best acting I have seen in a long time, YES. Dark and violent and not really my kind of film, I like light and fluffy but I watched right to the end credits. I watched as I like Tom Holland and for me this movie proves just how good an actor he is.

    I really appreciate your honest review. As for me, I loved this movie. I actually thought the 2nd half was better than the first and didn't really have a hard time following the plot. I really liked the way things came full circle at the end. My biggest criticism would be the sheriff sub plot. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed his sub plot a lot. However, I think you could cut most of his scenes and you wouldn't miss much. I would give a 4.2/5 stars.

    This film is not great but its not bad either. My problem in this is the screenplay it almost like the film that came out this year called Chamical Hearts. The script is pretty abysmal and sloppy but the performances are great especially Robert Pattinson. Although i do think Bill Skarsgard was miscast don't get me wrong he is great but i just don't really see him as the character infortunately. Overall a very decent film so i give this an 6.5/10. 😊😊

    Enjoyed this movie up
    Until when the serial killers killed that soldier but later on when they showed him being killed, can’t get over what they showed in that scene, if you watched it you’ll know what I’m talking about. Still a great movie but I wish that that part wasn’t shown I was ok with just knowing they killed him and not needing to see what they did. But hey, great acting though

    • @LearningaboutMovies
      @LearningaboutMovies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, there are a few shots like that throughout. The director needs to familarize himself with the greek term "porneia." some things are more effective NOT seen or shown.

    • @cassyrasquinha5466
      @cassyrasquinha5466 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's true. That part was really not necessary. But you also have to appreciate how the director has shown some of the other murders through the negatives of photographs. You know the horror, but don't necessarily see all the details.

    Really enjoyed this one. Fantastic presentation and performances. The story does meander quite a bit and I see how some could be turned off by that, but I found myself consistently intrigued. The only thing I 100% did not care for was the narration. I know it's from the book, and I know the narrator is the novel's author - I don't care. The film would have been better without narration shoved into every silence. Let it breathe a little. This is a film, not a book. Let the actors do their job instead of telling me what they're thinking and feeling all the time.

    • @LearningaboutMovies
      @LearningaboutMovies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes, very good. this is yet another example of an unnecessary voiceover narrator.

    This guy is not wrong but he didn’t see the 7 sins on the movie. Then you have all the objects which make the movie interesting the 9mm weapon, the camera which becomes a object of lust, the screwdriver which was made for a home used and was used to kill, money and envy etc etc....

    Great review man. Honestly I think its a very well shot, acted and overral well made movie, however its a huge mess when it comes to script and character. It relies on shock too much and there’s almost no character development at all for most of the characters. It feels like shallow, superficial oscar bait for me sadly. Just because a movie is dark and has important themes doesnt make it good, in my opinion. 2.5/5 is fair

    • @LearningaboutMovies

    Just finished watching it, and I thought it was okay. I didn't find the plot too convoluted (may just be the fact I watched Tenet recently lol) but I did feel they weren't connected in a meaningful way even though they were probably meant to be. I like the themes explored but I'm not sure enough is done with them. The performances are almost too good for a movie that has a lot going on. 3 stars for me.

      @@LearningaboutMovies
      Nope.
      Not the serial killers. They were fundamental for the pay off of Holland's character and their creepy deeds were important for the tone the writer and director wanted to show.
      If something should have been removed it should have been, as you said, the first preacher(the one with the spiders) and the corrupt deeds of Stan's character(those two guys he killed). I was also gonna say that the sheriff/Sandy relationship but that also kinda pays off with Holland's storyline.
      But all that I wrote is only truth if you really think that the movie is too long or convoluted, which is not my case. I enjoyed every moment of it for the acting, the cinematography, and specially the tone.

    • @LearningaboutMovies
      @LearningaboutMovies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bleak tone is already there with the father, the preachers, and the cop. The killers get about 20 minutes of screen time, with no character development. The Holland character magically runs into them after he deals with the Pattinson character. You could eliminate that magic moment and 20 minutes from the movie, while maintaining the bleakness and the "sons of bitches in the world" theme entirely. Just give another scene or two to the cop, showing him as violent or more corrupt. The only good reason the killers are in there as is is to give the idea that the wider society in the movie is evil. A better screenplay would've done more with WHY they take pictures and use cameras -- is that a commentary on filmmaking or society's uses of cameras? No, it's just a way to have obvious evidence later in the form of photographs.
