I don't think HHH gets quite enough credit for being such a solid and consistent heel for so many years. He's seen as a company man these days, marrying the boss's daughter and all that. But for many years, he was probably the most effective and reliable heel in the WWF, so much so that for me he transcended the traditional heel role and became a sort of contrarian anti-hero that I often rooted for against some of the lame babyfaces

In my mind, this was the true end of wrestling as must see tv. Forget Austin and McMahon aligning. Austin teaming with the guy who planned running him over was preposterous. His reasoning with JR was that he wanted someone that diabolical on his team. By that logic, he should've teamed with Rikishi, the one who actually did run him over. And even forget about that, just as recent as a month before these two were feuding and at each other's throats.

I always thought Vince should have let Shane go off and run WCW away from the WWF and maybe every now and then have invasions or cross over events and wrestlers jumping ship to the other company to keep things interesting.

This killed the rivalry between Austin and Triple H and things were never quite the same again afterwards. I get that they wanted to do something different with Austin's character, but it felt like they were just relying on shock rather than logic. Stone Cold and Triple H had been involved in a blood feud for the better part of the previous four months, and now a month removed from their two out of three falls match at No Way Out, the two were able to put that hatred aside and team up together. • @JimHawkwind03411

Triple H’s injury caused a butterfly effect in 2001; with him sidelined, TLC III took place at the last minute on the following Smackdown, and during that match, Benoit sustained a neck injury that neither he nor the WWE were aware of until King of the Ring.
The SmackDown where TLC III took place is also where The Invasion started, with Lance Storm appearing.

Also, I think HHH should have been more of a reluctant partner, forced into partnering with Austin by his father in law since he hated him. WWF really phoned it in on that whole build by having it be Rikishi. When the crowd didn't buy it, they added hhh. The feud lasted 3 weeks with Austin getting hot shotted to the title. Austin-McMahon effectively ushered in the end of the Atittude Era and you can see the crowds start to diminish and the audience reactions die out compared to 98-2000.

Rumour has it that yes, the Power trip was going to end soon anyway and the match that got Triple H injured was to continue their falling out, and result in an Austin v Triple H match at Summerslam 2001 with the roles reversed from usual (Austin being the heel and HHH being the face unlike in 2000). However this injury prevented that, and with the changes they made to the whole WCW thing anyway, we kinda ended up with Kurt Angle taking HHH's place in the rivalry. I believe this rumour to be partially true. It makes sense that Triple H didn't just turn face in 2002 just because he got hurt, but it was part of a long term plan anyway
