You could at either end. Most of the time I start in North East out of Apple Valley on the Coxey truck trail, then in the big pines recreation area/campsites, make a left on 3N16 (Holcomb Valley Road). The ends @ Holcomb Valley Road and the Hwy 18. You can do the trail both ways. Its date to open is June 30th, it’s aways best to check the local forest service for closers. The area was hit hard with old man 🥶 winter. Filming began on Coxey trail to Hwy 18 and back. I spent three days there.
