Given the unspeakably colossal immensity of the universe we really have absolutely no idea what is happening anywhere or even what is out there right now.
The book (which was ok) gives a lot of context to the movie which is a beautifully haunting arhouse reimagining of the novel. After watching only 20 minutes of the film I've held of watching it in full for 6 years after its release. I was so spellbound by it I wanted to live in that feeling as much as I could. Cried a lot at the end.
They honestly should've named this film *'Under The Bloody Radar'* , because nobody has seen it and I'm 'bloody' annoyed I can't talk about it with people!!.. funnily enough the title would still suit the film 😄. The acting, soundtrack, story all up there at the top for years and years to come, definitely a favourite.
Yea it annoys me too how little attention it got. Its an absolute masterpiece of sci fi cinema and for me the best in that genre from the past 20 years. The acting, the soundtrack, the cinematography, the lighting, the atmosphere all incredible.
I have seen it only once. But I’ve remembered it ever since. It’s haunting, strange, melancholy, and one of the most eerily beautiful films I’ve ever come across in my life. There isn’t a single other story it puts me in mind of.
Yeah i think its the symbolic view of an eyeball forming, but also could be seen as structures moving in space, aluring to an alien lifeform journeying towards Earth
Not really, its about homegirl traveling through space and then getting here and learning our language. But when the eyeball comes it signifies she's arrived.

Masterpiece of the 10s.
People will talk a lot about this one in the future.
It is one of those rare movies that trusts the audience to figure it out without a lot of exposition.
One of the rare movies superior to its book.
Yes yes yes like 2001 Space Odyssey
dumb movie
This movie is another of these hidden gems that will affects its intrigued viewers for the rest of their lives.
Not quite 😂😂

I really like the book, tbh I was mad at the film for being an adaptation in name only. But I've come to appreciate it over the years.
Adding to list of favorite movie opening scenes. A visually & aurally intriguing film, indeed.
First second, I was HOOKED
The glowing ring reminded me of a UFO slowly landing in earth, and at the same time the formation a retina. Great bit of visual.
A masterpiece of science fiction
The first time I saw this movie I was on Modafinil and pot edibles. Absolutely unreal experience. This movie is incredible.

Wondering how they did the special effects for this
bergman would be so proud
Kubrickan thing
Yep all the way. "Dark"Starman 1984. Or in Scarlett's case "Dark" Starwoman lol😂
“Film” having two meanings!
Also, the only remaining jet-black part of the alien peeping out is the black at the middle of the eye! Wow!
Brilliant
Beautiful
The real deal.
Your the imposter!
That's how you start a sci-fi movie
Loved the style of this movie. Can anyone recommend films that feel similar to this one?
in terms of plot it's nothing alike, but artistically i think this film was heavily inspired by 2001: a space odyssey
Enemy, by Denis Villeneuve and starring Jake Gyllenhaal
Beyond the Black Rainbow.
Drive, Hereditary, Midsommar, Sunshine, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, True Romance, Wall-E,
Birth
A film also directed by Glazer
This was them making an eyeball right?
Yeah, the creation of a alien 👽 lifeform.
