I think majority of the Rebels were actually strong enough and broke into the mothership first before the player did, since majority of them are already inside different areas fighting the Martians. Can't tell due to it being the player's perspective but even so it wouldn't matter due to how overwhelming their vast amounts of numbers and different weapons can be compared to other forces.

*EXPRESS ELEVATOR TO HELL, GOOOOIN' UP!!* reaching this mission in the arcades was terrifying, pulled off in typical Metal Slug fashion. The second you think things are over-- SURPRISE, asshole! Martian forces snuck in the back door, ran off with one of the team, and you gotta fly up with a gigantic counterattack wave thru a ferocious blockade to stab at the heart of the alien menace! ..ohh, and they grabbed Morden before the confusion too and are torturing the shit out of him on the mothership, that's-- yeah, okay, be sure to rescue him too, or something. The wild keyboards and spooky voice tones in this really capture the sci-fi battle to come~
El mejor juego y buen merecido, yo pensé que era la típica de la comunidad de nostalgia y eso y que estaba sobrevalorado, lo jugué y con razón Metal Slug 3 es el mejor juego de la saga, lo tuvo todo para ser el mejor, pero la misión final es la que corona este juego.

Well considering that the entire rebel army always gets obliterated by one or two guys, they never stood a chance against the aliens anyway.
