A VR game that finally seems to have decent AI instead of mindless zombies (whether in name or called something else but still essentially zombies). I always felt like REALLY good enemy AI would be so much more satisfying in VR, but it's so rare. I'm excited for this one!
100% I love how the enemies actually feel like a threat. I can't just run in and kill mindless enemies like most VR games. Sure you can learn how each enemy interacts and abuse them (like going back and forth between melee range to stop them from using their gun) but if you mess up you'll hurt, a lot. In that sense it definitely gave me that souls-vibe (not just the souls mechanic). The gunplay is satisfying and handling the gun feels very smooth. I also like the physically located item pouch vs the more contextual body placement. The Quest Pro controller might fix it but the standard controller I feel can sometimes lose itself when reaching for things on my "belt" in other games. The placement of the pouch in this game however I have no had any issues with. Theres so much well thought out parts to the game that I absolutely love. I told myself I was just going to do a quick run last night before I went to bed. Next thing I knew 3 hours had passed and I forced myself to get killed by playing like it's CoD.
@@ROFLWAFFLELAWL4 Yeah, you can game the enemies a little bit, but it definitely feels more tense than zombies. I like everything about the item belt, ammo, and weapon placement. The only thing I have trouble with is the grenade pin pulling. But I have index controllers which are a bit longer than quest controllers (which is the obvious standard they designed to). And I know what you mean about the souls-vibe. It feels haunting like dark souls, and having to get back to your body if you die adds extra sense of tension too. Have you played with multiple classes yet? Yesterday I only played with the rifleman (I'm at rank 6 or 7 I think). I'm curious how the other classes will compare.
It’s so rare because a lot of people ether care more about the graphics then the gameplay, or want super casual quick experiences, and there often doesn’t seem to be an in between. It’s a big issue I have with VR, and specifically it’s community.
Same here and I picked up mirage kayak and I picked up switchback but as you probably know, release date got held back. I’m bit gutted as that was my main game for launch. At lambast March will be great with switchback and saints & sinners.
Great job with the review! I'd initially written this game off when I saw the first trailer, but it's been growing on me the more I see. I might have to pick it up on PSVR 2 after I've finished with some of the other games.
the belt "not turning" is because you are looking down at it. It's much more frustrating to have your items move around as you're looking through them, especially in a hectic situation where you might be running for cover while trying to swap weapons, or reload, etc. 8:23
At 6:28 the giant green stone thats flying above two hands can be 🙏 at to recover lost health Im not sure if the game said this but i figure id say anyway
You sold me on the enemy AI. I remember with Until You Fall, the AI in that game on nightmare mode would annoy me and make me smile at the same time, seems like The Light Brigade will satisfy me in the same way. Although I will wait for a PS5 patch, like you said its rough and the devs are working on it.
Wait, you can reload on pistolier by just pulling the guns down to your ammo pouches? Oh god, that would change a lot. Here I was just using the second gun as a hotswap for when the first ran out.
@@VRGRID understandable, I was just two handing a single pistol which gets you fairly good accuracy and speed, I imagine dual wielding is only really ideal at mid to close range.
Just Played a bit on PSVR2, Loads of available options to experiment with, One question I don't understand, What is the Start with Pure seed game option?
this one of the first games i’m grabbing when my psvr2 gets here on launch day (hopfully since it just shipped lol) but i been following this for a little while, something about Rougelites on VR just so much fun
I’m in U.K. and mine is preparing to ship. I’m sure it will go out tomorrow on Tuesday but I’ve never ordered via Sony direct so don’t know if I’ll get mine on Wednesday. I think we all should absolutely receive it on launch day. Considering it cost a fair amount of doe and what’s the point of pre order If ya don’t get it on release. I’m curious to know when they will be in store. So strange that psvr2 is out in less then 24hours and nowhere has it. I partly think it’s because Sony didn’t manufacture many units, expecting low pre orders. Otherwise, it would have been available for pre order everywhere and made Sony loads more money.
Does anyone else feel that most VR games that aren’t rougelites (VR games by default can’t be a rougelike, those are games like Caves Of Qud, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, or Tales Of Maj’eyal) are the only VR games that tend to have any difficulty. Most VR games tend to be overly focused on being technically impressive (Boneworks, Hubris, etc), or overly easy for a quick experience (most Quest games).
I’m looking to purchase this or into the radius tonight. I like a game that I can pour hundreds of hours into and now just have it end. Which should I get?
It's definitely not easy, but failed runs are rewarded with xp as long as you can live long enough to deposit collected souls. You essentially grind until you're a combination of good and leveled up enough to be OP for that area. Thankfully, the gunplay is fun enough to carry that gameloop.
Hey there question is this much better on the PSVR2 then the Meta Pro ? Just wanted to know should I use my credit that I have on the quest or buy it on the PSVR 2 thanks
Nicely done as usual Chris 👍🏿 While I’m dying to play this on Quest, until the frame rate and pop-in is resolved, I’ll have to pass. The dev team seems super responsive on their Discord so hopefully they fix before release if they don’t want people refunding.
Nice review, Chris. I'm torn on this one. It sounds solid and has good looking gameplay, but the visuals are so bland and levels look so lifeless and dull. I hope it finds a player base, but I think I'll be holding off at first.
I just bought this... Actually, the new updated one on black Friday for $15.. I love it....but the stick drift I have makes me play using teleport movement.... which I can't stand.. But it kinda works with this game... I never played it originally, so I tried to refund it.....but I'm stuck with it Great replayability makes the purchase reasonable.... especially for $15
This one really disappointed me. It doesn’t look bad but aside from providing content “procedural generation” is the antithesis if VR. I hate looking around and thinking I found something only to realize it was just the procedural generation. Like I’m being punished for immersing myself and asking questions about the environment.
@@VRGRID it’s actually my biggest problem with that game too haha, they did it very well in that game but I stopped feeling like a space explorer 10-15 hours in because of the procedural generation. There’s nothing wring with it in flat screen or vr though people love it right now because its infinite content
It may not be for you, but "repetitive" is not necessarily a bad thing if you vibe with the gameplay loop. Technically Beat Saber is "just" hitting a handful of different types of blocks over and over, but it works and lots of people still play it. Sometimes I just wanna shoot a bunch of bad guys without random interjected mini-games killing my rush (*cough*Alyx multitool*cough*). If the gunplay feels good and the AI keeps me on my toes, it might be a keeper (despite the overused "voxelized Unity project" look).
@@DoubleJumpPunch i get what you mean for sure but for me I think that's where multi-player shooters do a better job of just shooting stuff and beat saber gets old fast especially with the lack of good music - I think I've just been playing vr so long I'm ready for the next phase you know some kind of progression..
@Jakku Demoff Right, the funny thing is I don't play BS much either (I like Synth Riders more just for exercise). The best bet for you right now are community-made VR ports, like HL2VR or Preydog's injector for Unreal Engine games.

The mimic AI for Into the Radius is pretty great in my experience

I suggest Pavlov as well, if you have the money for it. Assuming you like multiplayer games.

The problem is the belt only turned when I turned with the analog stick. Turning in real life screwed it up. This may have been patched though.
I’m playing the hell out of this since launch on psvr2. It’s so good
Played it on the Quest Pro. Runs well! I agree with his issues on the controls. But the game is so solid that I was hooked.
