Just rewatched this game and other Stars playoff games in honor of Sam Mills, who was recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Class act, that man.
Kelvin Bryant, Bart Oates, Irv Eatman, Gary Plummer, Ray Bently, Bobby Herbert, Anthony Carter, William Fuller, Sam Mills, alls guys with a significant impact in the NFL.
@@USFLForever Mills, Jackson, Swilling, Johnson (saints)... hard to find 4 better 3-4 Linebackers. One of them must make the Hall of Fame and Mills was the leader of that pack. If it wasn't for Anthony Carter (USFL) they likely would have gotten that SB 22 Lombardi Trophy. So many USFL guys in those playoffs that year... I can't name them all but the SB Champ Redskins had at least 6 USFL guys on their team.
Man, looking back, there was a LOT of NFL talent in this game. The day before my 6th birthday. I remember watching and being bummed the Invaders lost. It was quite the sports weekend for me...my dad took me to an A's game the day before and they beat the Brewers 2-0. Sucked that we'd be gone from Oakland in less than three months.
Well it was certainly great memories for me as I was a teenager. Sad to think this was the last USFL I would see back then. It should have never folded.
@@USFLForever Horrible leadership by the owners led to the league’s demise. I LOVED the USFL, it was just a great league. I was thrilled to have professional football almost all year long. Trying to get into the new USFL league, but it’s just not as good as the old league. Probably because they don’t have great players like the old version had. Think of all the former and future NFL stars that played in the old USFL, there is no Jim Kelly, Hershel Walker, Kelvin Bryant or Steve Young type equivalent in the new USFL. And I just named 4 of the superstars of the old USFL.
U know what I really don't remember watching this game!!!!!, But I for sure remember watching most of the games they had on national t.v. in 83?!!?!! The first ever season
If they'd only had listened to the late Tampa Bay Bandits owner, John Bassett who ironically enough passed away the day of the final verdict in the lawsuit from multiple brain tumors, they might have lasted in the spring till at least 1990. Trump later tried to buy the Buffalo Bills, but was outbid by the Buffalo Sabers owner. Trump should be blackballed by the NFL, IMO.
Successful in the sense it had a solid cult following and was quality football. But it wasn't financially successful. The league folded after 3 seasons and losing about $157 million.
2:16:33. Stupidest fn thing they could have done....how bout not doing that again? There's a reason for the time of the year. Geezus!!! 2:16:39. You ain't shitting Keith.
Considering Dieter Brock was in the NFC Championship game after being a career CFL'er and Marc Wilson led a Raiders team to and 11-2 record and the AFC West title, I'd be inclined to agree. They could've been much like Mora's '86 Saints team that was frisky and finished 7-9...maybe a couple less wins because the entire roster wasn't as strong, but sure...there was plenty of talent parity at this point between the leagues.
I'LL NEVER FORGET OR FORGIVE THAT S.O.B FOR COSTING ME MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. SHOULD HAVE NEVER PUSHED BACK THE START TO COINCIDE WITH N.F.L PLAYING AND STAYED IN ORIGINAL STARTING PLACE.....STICK THE "SMALL POTATOES" WHERE.... U.S.F.L 4-EVER
Eddie Einhorn, despite not owning a team as Chicago went belly-up, was more of a directing force IRT the move to fall than Trump was, especially since his reformed team was to play at Comiskey. You hear anything about him? Besides, with the USFL back (albeit in name only) and set to go back into markets next year, where's the base? They should, even now, be doing 1.5 million viewers easily. Put up or shut up. Or just like liberals are you just bitching to hear yourselves bitch?
Back when football was football. I can't put my finger on it but I'd rather watch this than a modern NFL game any day.
What I remember is that this game took place The day after Live Aid

He certainly was. The NFL scouts miss the mark on him and many other USFL players.

And yet Sam Hills has been denied the Hall again.

@@USFLForever Hes finally in!Same year USFL makes its return.
That pass at 2:38 was perfect! That's an extremely hard route to throw a completion. Has to have perfect touch and he had it!
The old USFL had quality play.

@@paranormalskeptic3893 Hopefully next year they will have individual owners who can bring some experienced well known players in to the league.
I was there, rooting on the Stars as part of a bus/ticket package from Suburban Baltimore for $45, round trip motor coach and an endzone seat.
Jim Mora stars head coach later with the saints had invaders quarterback Hebert ad his starting quarterback with the saints
Jim mora turn the saints around

I am glad you can catch up on our channel for the games you might have missed.
Had to re-edit this game because of a high pitched sound in the second half that made the game unwatchable. It's all fixed now.

Oh yes spring football. I love it
yes and hopefully here to stay.
Wasn’t around yet but read Usfl was very successful. And that the stars were the real deal
Fact: The Stars have never missed a USFL Championship game in both leagues.
Successful in the sense it had a solid cult following and was quality football. But it wasn't financially successful. The league folded after 3 seasons and losing about $157 million.
@@rockvilleraven They owned the league. Now the Birmingham Stallions own the UFL, but whatever.
Love the channel
Thank you. We have a lot more videos to add we promise.
The best spring football league bye far there was a lot of USFL in the NFL after the USFL folded
100% TRUE FACT!
Wish the USFL would make a comeback, using OG names and logos.
It's coming back in spring 2022
U got your wish. Here's hoping this doesn't fucking repeat itself. 2:16:33.
@@tiderbean See if it lasts. lol
@@socalsocal88 the league would have made it had Trump not convinced the other owners to try to go to a fall league at the time

Oakland coach, Charlie Sumner, with the heaters on the sideline, no headset.
Very good quality
Thank you. My channel is the ONLY one that has all three USFL Championship games in its entirety.
THANKS 4 ALL THIS
I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN THIS GREAT LEAGUE
What a League!
If the USFL had stayed in the spring, it probably would have survived to this day.
Yes but unfortunately too many owners one in particular had other motives.
This matchup, in essence, is a rematch of the 1st U*$*F*L* CHAMPIONSHIP
Oakland QB Fred Besana was pretty good.😀

2:16:39. You ain't shitting Keith.
I thought Besana was still the QB.Hebert did well winning the first title in '83 in an upset over these same Stars(but from Philly then).
The Invaders merged with the Michigan Panthers prior to the start of the 1985 season
@@ulphil08 Fun fact: the Stars have been alwasy playing in the USFL Championship Game of both leagues.
I thought that was the blue bombers
LOL. The BB had a little darker blue uniforms.
USFL was so generic yet funny to see familiar faces on both sides.
Stars could have competed in the NFL.

not real alot of thought went into the team logos back then
Well they were very popular naxk then. The league wanted a military style uniform.
Oakland won the uniform game though.
Most definitely
Craig James was best player on the lowly Washington Federals.🙂
Rooted for the Federals from 1983-4, switched to the Stars when the Feds moved to Orlando in 1985.
35 YEARS AGO TODAY. THIS WAS A GREAT GAME. ATTENDANCE: 50,000. F TRUMP.

President Trump should help start a new spring football league. His sons could own the Washington team.🙂
