Courtney, I am a 70 yr old grandma who has gone to my natural gray hair. I’m so discouraged. I live in FL and deal with 90% humidity during the summer. I wash every other day. My hair is so dry! I’ve tried so many of the products you’ve suggested. Deep conditioners tend to weigh down my hair. Please make more videos for older women like me who have fine, thin gray hair. I do believes I am experiencing hydgral fatigue now.😢😢😢😢

The hose analogy worked for me! As did the images of the hairs getting more fatigued. I can't imagine what horror it must be to have your hair stretch until it just breaks off! 😵

@10:30 This is exactly me. I've described my hair as feeling waxy for about two years and have deep conditioned my heart out trying to repair my hair, only to be baffled that my hair is getting worse. I've been using a deep conditioner every wash day 😬 My hair hardly curls and if it does, the curls fall out in a couple hours whereas my curls used to last for days.
Currently doing my first protein treatment ever 🤦🏻‍♀️

      @VivienReis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Okay after one rice rinse my hair is totally behaving better already. I'll be including more protein until it's balanced. Can't believe I was applying that much moisture to my hair.
Thank you for your videos! I was ready to chop all my hair and go back to straightening

@@VivienReisI’m so glad - what protein treatment did you do as I am in similar position after only 6 weeks of once a week hair mask according to it’s instructions and now looking for a protein to put on however I am finding flax seed gel initially saved my hair….. it was so gummy and matted and awful. I’m glad mine happened super quick so I realised something was off so soon after initiating such damaging but well intentioned activities 🙈

*waves* I put my hair in hygral fatigue by daily washing. Here’s how you can, too!
    1) Wash (or rinse) your hair every day.
    2) Use mountains of conditioner. Really slather it on there. It doesn’t have to be a deep conditioner-any old thing will do.
    3) Do not-I repeat, DO NOT-rinse it all out of your hair. This is key! Would you rinse lotion off of your hands? No! So let that conditioner sit in your hair all day.
    4) Put your hair in a bun or braid for the day. Yes, put it up wet and leave it. I said what I said.
    5) Let it down in the evening. Marvel that your hair is still really wet.
    6) Get up the next day and repeat.
So yeah. You can put your hair in hygral fatigue by daily washing, but you have to be doing about five things wrong. And even then it took probably 3+ years.

I LOVE Curlsmith's multi tasking conditioner! I either use Aveda's nutriplenish leave in (a somewhat creamy spray leave in), or the CS multi tasking conditioner as a leave in (when my hair needs a bit more than a spray can give). I like it as a rinse out too, but I have others I like better for that purpose so I usually use it as a leave in.

I'm so glad I found your channel! I think we have practically the same type of hair. I think I over moisturized my hair because, as I'm just beginning my wavy/curly journey, most of the people I've found so far have curlier, drier hair. I don't think my hair was very damaged before I started this, and I've been going hard on the squish-to-condish lol. One of the first shampoos and conditioners I tried had some protein which my hair seemed to like, but I've run out and been using very moisturizing stuff until I get new protein products. They can't get here soon enough! Anyway, loving your videos!

True hygral fatigue causes hair loss at the root, correct? Do you have any idea how to tell the difference between hygral fatigue and postpartum hair loss?? (A bit off topic here I know.) I am a new “wavy girl” but also have a 4 month old. My hair definitely does not feel gummy in my opinion and when wet it does stretch and go back. So I think…not hygral fatigue? I definitely have some problems with hair looking limp/frizzy at times, but I think that is due to being “in transition” maybe and also still needing to find my best products/styling techniques. However, the past few weeks I have started losing hair in excessive amounts every time I wash (much more than the first weeks of CGM). I just need a way to decipher that this is for sure due to postpartum hormones and not something I am doing wrong with my products/new wavy routine. I am only 2 months in as a “wavy” but 4 months postpartum so probably poor timing for deciding to switch my hair routine when PP hair loss was right around the corner…any advice??

I'm 2c mostly, naturally high porosity with some bleach and I decided to try a protein treatment today. My curls havent been this defined in forever. Like I have wave definition not frizz. If your curls or waves are just not shaping right and you use a lot of conditioners try a mild protein first.
I'm happy I did and I plan to use it once a monrh. If i do a more intense treatment maybe every 6 weeks.
    Courtney does a great job.

I used EcoSlay Matcha Boost (left on for 10 minutes under a shower cap while in the shower). Then followed with NYM Curl Talk Deep Conditioning Masque because the EcoSlay website said to follow Matcha Boost with their Banana Deep Conditioner, which I didn’t have. I left the NYM on under a shower cap for another 10 minutes in the shower and rinsed out. My hair felt damp and gummy on the top of my head. I did all the other things I usually do - styling products and diffuse. My waves were really sad. And the next day - silky smooth straight. Straighter than when I wore my hair straight. Washed again 5 days later using Giovanni TTT shampoo and NYM Curl Talk rinse out conditioner. Used Curlsmith Feather Light Protein Cream and then their Curl Defining Styling Souffle and Bouncy Strength Volume Foam. Again… sad waves and straight hair today. If I stretch a strand of hair, it stretches about 2 inches without bouncing back and then breaks. Is this over-moisturized or hygral fatigue? How do I get my waves back? (I’m a 2A, fine, low density).

  • @lynnmcdonald3401

Ok so I did a hair mask for 10 minutes or less ONCE a week 6 weeks in a row and - disaster 🤣 as well as stopping shampoo and straightening and using a silk cap at night….. my goodness.
Flax seed gel saved it immediately - at least I was doing that too. On the 6th time - gummy, matted, tangled wet hair immediately after taking off the mask and my digging locks were interlocking in their wet dampness. It was awful. I had never seen a thing like it on my hair journey and I’m nearly 52. So two days later - after bringing the situation under control immediately by applying WAY more flax seed gel than I would normally apply and letting it dry. My hair is remarkably good. Soft yes and I been keeping it in protective style since (bun). But it did curl not too bad immediately on drying. So since then I discovered that hydras fatigue is a thing, protein is important as well as deep conditioning. I am also now scared to deep condition my hair ever again 😂
