It depends on where you are in the world, in the US we either call it a reception or wake but other cultures may have different names for the same thing.
Where I'm from the wake is before the funeral. After is called a repast or reception. Repast apparently means meal. That's it,

It's called a candle lighting... it's basically another type of funeral if the body of the dead was never found or recovered which if you look at the fact that Professor Calahan escaped, so his body was never found because he was alive

I never thought about hero's family
cool theory. The only tiny part I think you got wrong is when you said the man in the picture would be aunt Cass' father, since she's most likely white. The man would more likely be the parent of Hiro and Tadashi's father (since he's the one with the Japanese surname)

well yeah it was pretty obvious to me but she is still animated which means I didn't want to assume.
It's literally impossible to assume colours unless you've seen something similar before. If you're going outside on a summer day, you can assume the colour of the grass is green, because you've seen it before. If you've seen someone's family, and the whole family is white, you can assume that they are white. But you can't say you're assuming someone's colour if you know they are white. Then you simply know.

My sister and I took an old time themed picture like 5 years ago. We just walked by a small booth/tent with a photographer and thought "sure, why not?" when the photographer asked if we wanted to. The clothes they were wearing in the photo were Yukata, a traditional outfit to wear during the summer to more traditional occasions (like religious celebrations). they are less formal than a kimono.
But they are definitely not martial arts clothing.
The kanji on the walls were definitely the same though. they both says 不撓不屈 一期一會, which roughly means "Don't give up" and "You may only have one chance".
The background of the photo is very common in Japanese homes though, even nowadays.

I wasn't sold until you showed the martial arts video with matching tapestry. It makes a lot more sense why some kid would have a video of his grandad doing martial arts from one angle, instead of the seizure-inducing fight scenes in most action movies. It could be some sort of tutorial/advertisement made by the grandad, or it could be commissioned by Hiro specifically for Baymax.

Yes, it's a fairly common shop you'll see on Boardwalks and carnivals. They take sepia toned pictures of people in period outfits. My wife and I did one when we were dating.
Also, some people and photographers still like shooting and/or printing in black and white for artistic reasons.
