I think there is definitely a future for lower body passive augmentation to help fatigue and carry more armor to protect vital areas in legs and groin.
I think that is an inevitable future.

In that case, let's wait another 20 or 30 years for something similar to that to appear. I want an exoskeleton suit like the one in Crysis or Halo.
I'm waiting for folks to strap ballistic plates to these things, I mean it only makes sense for it to sap the weight of armor.

This isn't bad, I think lighter-weight gear is a better answer at the moment.
As a 13F U.S. Army combat veteran, I carried 90 pounds or more of radio, batteries, gadgets, water, ammunition, smoke grenades, and body armor over 10 miles every day in complex terrain in Kandahar Afghanistan. On one mission I carried 180 pounds of gear for a little over 20 miles.
The army likes to save money by issuing heavy gear, rather than buying more expensive lightweight gear. Now I'm medically disabled and constantly paid _(with taxpayer dollars)_ for chondromalacia, degenerated meniscus, tendonitis, and fibromyalgia. It's not PTSD, shrapnel, or missing limbs. Just physical injury from carrying a crap-ton of weight over rocky hilly terrain.
If the army was more proactive about reducing the weight of gear and weapons this might have been avoided. I had to stay in the army an extra 6 months _(while still getting paid)_ to be assessed medically before being discharged. Soldiers would be more easily retained, reducing recruitment and training costs. Lighter weight gear would also benefit combat effectiveness while on mission, being less fatigued and able to move faster/farther could easily make all the difference between being a target or hitting a target.
Doing things like changing the quad-rail M4 handguard to a polymer one that has detachable rails would go a long way. Military generals don't seem to understand it's all connected. _"Soldiers keep getting shot, we better put more body armor on them..."_ And then we have hundreds of knee injuries for every bullet wound, and we still get shot up as much because we're moving slower and can't run to cover as quickly.
I paid 2K for my plate carrier. Two plates and side plates at RF1 rating plus the carrier and doodads attached = 9 lbs. I bet a 9 lb rifle rated 4 side plate carrier would do wonders for people's joints, but that is quite expensive.
@Ranstone You want to know what else is expensive? $1,900 a month. I'm 80% physically disabled and can barely walk. I also can't work anywhere that I know of, so it's not like I can "give anything back" to society.
The level of mobility and passive load bearing of this makes me excited to see where this project goes.

That belt rail looks like it can be fucked with by environmental stuff locking your rotation in place. Was this thing tested in muddy and sandy terrain or just in a warehouse?

That's what "They" said..... pretty sure thier criteria included leaping a tall building in a single bound and running faster than a locomotive.
one of the problems is it's not improve that much power as they want unles being bulky
and they want something compact slimline and still improve power load to the maximum
also the software's not quite on par with human movements
a wearer will feel resist force a little bit when start and stop the motions not as smooth as moving with real body
Both the US and Russia had exoskeleton prototype programs running, they both basically found it's not worth the cost or improvement to outfit a single soldier with one.
Maybe when the tech is lighter and better optimized we can use it for military purposes, but all they can do rn is help you not get back pain from lifting boxes at your loading dock job.

so it transfer the load all the way down to the base plate in the shoe... but doesn't that mean as soon as you step all that weight transferred back to your feet? or does it balance out as long as one foot is on the ground? also shame they didn't have this guy carry around something heavy to show it in action.
