America Sings was an American Bicentenial show that replaced Carousel of Progress, using the same mechanics. There were animal animatronics along with an Uncle Sam eagle and a weasel. They sang popular songs of different eras up to the 1970s. Sort of like one of those "America is so great" musical shows you see at other theme parks. The show starts with Yankee Doodle and ends with Joy to the World (Jeremiah Bullfrog). It closed after a cast member got stuck in between the stage and the rotating audience, getting squeezed to their death. So now it's only Carousel of Progress from there on out, and the animatronics were used in Splash Mountain and Star Tours.

I figure Toontowns are like Chinatowns. Lots of cities have their own little toon neighborhoods.

That...makes a lot of sense, actually!
Now I'm really curious about where the original Toon Country is that the Toons left behind for life in America.

9:15 "We'll start with the one so popular, it assures that Disney can never completely sweep Song of the South under the rug, Splash Mountain"
9 years later, and that they announce they are replacing Splash Mountain with a Princess and the Frog retheme.

RE, the classic, BETTER, non Jack Sparrow Pirates ride..."You got to USE YOUR IMAGINATION!"...That's EXACTLY the problem...too many kids now do not do just that. They want everything spelled out for them...add to this the desire from the studio to MARKET, MARKET, MARKET rather than stand behind use of the afore mentioned IMAGINATION...and you get the crappy REDONE Pirates ride...
"They haven't COMPLETELY destroyed the atmosphere yet..."
    ...YET.
I'm almost glad we cannot afford to visit the parks any longer, and live too far away...the last time we rode this one, it WAS the classic version, and that is the one I want to remember...

My thoughts having only been to WDW (Currently since this was done in 2010)
Main Street: Very immersive, sets the stage for what's to come.
Cinderella's Castle: Incredible, still the best castle in Orlando (tied with Hogwarts), emphasizes Walt's "Blessing of Size" quote. You have to admit with Disneyland, it's kinda cramped since everyone built around Disneyland so WDW can just build what it wants and expand when it wants. The smaller size of Disneyland does have it's advantages but it does have it's disadvantages as well, just like the Blessing of Size in WDW.
Adventureland: Classic with it's set of attractions. Theming works and transitions well into Frontierland and Main Street.
Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse: It's alright, but not growing up with the movie, I don't have that nostalgia but it's fun to do every so often.
Jungle Cruise: It depends on the skippers but I still have fun with it every time. I do like how it has similar scenes yet has it's own unique moments like the Temple.
Tiki Room: I don't have memories of the "Under New Management" show, which I did see but only once at a young age, but I can say this, it was like a sign from GOD it burned down and was replaced with the ORIGINAL Tiki Room.
Pirates: No doubt Disneyland's is better but this Pirates is better than having no Pirates at all. The whitewashing is getting a bit extreme since it is losing the meaning of Pirates but the Film tie ins were fun at first but they completely dominate the ride now. The reason it's so short is because it wasn't meant to be there since "Florida is close to the real Caribbean" which is a bad excuse IMO.
Frontierland: Very well themed and blends almost seamlessly with Liberty Square.
Splash Mountain: The irony of the source material is hilarious to me. That said, I think Florida managed to IMPROVE upon the original. The country music instead of the classical music works for Splash Mountain in Florida, the Animatronics look better since they weren't borrowed from America Sings (not the ones that were JUST carried over, the repurposed ones like Brer Fox, that animatronic is the stuff of nightmares.) and it just culminates in that drop.
Big Thunder: It's almost the same as DL's. Aside from the update DL received, there isn't much different.
Liberty Square: I like the theming but I guarentee that if Pirates was planned from the beginning, this would be New Orleans Square. Kinda hard to blend into Fantasyland since Rapunzel's Tower went up.
Haunted Mansion: Still one of the best rides in any park. In a perfect world, the best mansion is to combine the Florida and the California mansions as both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Fantasyland, I like how now it transitions from Castle Courtyard to Enchanted Forest, but some of the Ye Olde Faire theming for the rides stands out a bit. Both Fantasylands on both coasts have their own charm to it. Storybook Circus is kinda odd but it retains that fantasy element. The dark rides that remain are nice, the new ones like Mine Train and Little Mermaid are nice additions, the classics like Dumbo are still classic and
Small World: exists (although the interior design choice may be due to inclement weather.)
Peter Pan: is nice but never worth a fastpass or the wait times (Seriously shouldn't the lines be shorter with an omnimover system?)
    Missing attractions:
Matterhorn: Honestly with Everest, I don't need it had it not been here in Animal Kingdom, I would... plus it's essentially our space mountain so not really that missed, still want to ride it though.
Canal Boats: Don't really need it, it's cool but not necessary
    Circus train: again, not needed
Alice in Wonderland ride: Wish we could have it but the dark rides aren't lasting long here anymore
    Pinnochio: Same as Alice.
Mr Toad: same but Pooh isn't that bad. Although Country Bears is a bit dated now, it's not an easy thing to replace given it's smaller venue whereas Christopher Walken gave a Vacant Country Bear Hall to make a dark ride out of.
Philharmagic: Kinda a one and done but still fun.
Toontown fair: Gone, didn't really have much there anyway, New Fantasyland is MUCH BETTER. Plus Toontown in DL kinda fell from grace and after the brawl last year, I wouldn't take my hypothetical kids there, even for Roger Rabbit. But the thing is, Toontown wasn't ORIGINALLY Toontown, it just got jostled around alot with new ideas until it finally got replaced with Storybook Circus.
Tomorrowland: Interesting but the attractions leave a lot to be desired.
Laugh Floor: Not worth the time. Just watch professional comedy on youtube or netflix and you'll have a better time.
Stitch's Great Escape: Fine to get out of the sun for a bit but a disaster otherwise. Finally gone which kinda saddens me since there is no chance of Alien Encounter returning.
Buzz Lightyear: Fun but DL improved upon it with the removable guns, but both pale in comparison to MIB in Universal.
Space Mountain: Is fine but comparing it to DL is unfair as the ride systems are completely different with WDW being like Matterhorn. Needless to say, DL is better just by an advancement in ride system.
Current parade: It's great, not sure when it will be replaced but if this one stays a while, I'm not complaining.
    Electrical Parade: Gone
Wishes: Gone but was hard to top... somehow, Disney World managed with Happily Ever After. Only downside is unlike wishes where you can see it from anywhere AROUND MK, including the resorts where the audio is pumped to, You miss the castle projections.
Mickey: I think he's a bit harsh but a lot of it is nostalgia, from both sides, literally and figuratively, what you grew up with is what you'll probably prefer. Like with Haunted Mansion, in a perfect world, both Disneyland and WDW would be mixed together. The aspects that work for both coming together. And truth be told, it should be the American Parks against the overseas parks as they seem to be getting better and better attractions.

I have to say this video's great and the Skipper Dan part never fails to crack me up. If I ever go back to Disney I'm going to try singing it on the ride to see if it gets any interesting reactions (or the guide ends up pointing me out and going "alright wise guy, stop humiliating me with Skipper Dan").
Also, I totally got to ride Mr. Toad's as a kid before they tore it up for Winnie the Pooh. The hell part was great, but the train part was really lame, even as a kid I could tell it was an overhead light moving towards you on a track to simulate a locomotive lantern.

Big Thunder Mountain and the Haunted Mansion are sort of connected to each-other, especially when regarding the story. And also regarding the Hall Of Presidents, I dread to think what will happen when Ol Goldfish Face is added to it.

    • @doggans
      @doggans  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

From what I understand, Paris has an even stronger connection between Big Thunder and Phantom Manor. The connection in the US between Big Thunder and the Mansion is less explicit.
And yeah, let's just say I'm even less interested in Hall of Presidents now than I was before.

      He just was.
And it's worse than anything you could have imagined.
The only way I would have approved (and the majority of Americans, by the way) would be if they used his Access Hollywood 'pussy grabbing' audio for his speaking voice...
      Accuracy, people...it's important.

Was there supposed to be narration about the Jungle Cruise over the Skipper Dan section? Because as it is, it's a pretty abrupt jump between attractions with no elaboration.

    • @doggans
      @doggans  9 ปีที่แล้ว

I never really had much to say about the Jungle Cruise, other than my assertion that enjoyment of it depends on how good the skipper is. When I started making this video, I hadn't intended on doing an elaborate detailed review of the parks, so I only really stopped to say things when I had things I really, REALLY wanted to say--the Jack Sparrow rant, for instance, was something that had been brewing inside me for quite a long time.

Somehow with the PIRATES franchise seemingly dead for now(no thinks to the 4th and 5th film for killing it)
And Depp being fired from his typecast role hopefully the ride will survive pasted the movie nonsense and the fact that Disney right now doesn't REALLY need this franchise anymore no thinks in part to both STAR WARS and MARVEL overshadowing it!
Also Jack Sparrow does NOT fit the old ride in anyway truth be told

  • @doggans
    @doggans  12 ปีที่แล้ว

I wouldn't have minded as much if they added just one or two Jack Sparrows. It could have been a fun easter egg and wouldn't have invalidated what we imagined about the rest of the pirates and the world. Alas, they just HAD to go all "Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters" on us and make the marketable character the center of attention.

I'm going to say some stuff about the rides you talk about now so here we go.
Peter Pan's flight is actually my favorite dark ride due to an emotional experience on the ride.
If you want to ride Small World but don't want to have that ear worm in your brain, pull out Spotify and hit shuffle play with the volume on high.
If you could care less about politics (especially current politics), then you could care less about the Hall of Presidents.
The queue for Haunted Mansion in Florida is actually more interactive with the graves that's everywhere.
The logs on Splash Mountain are actually better in Florida because they're much more comfortable and have LAP BARS.
Ok I'm done. If someone could answer my question about why Splash Mountain's logs in California are different then in Florida, then please enlighten me.
