@D D Day esq there’s people that will hate him only because he’s a man. There’s people that will hate him only because he wears a badge. There’s people that will hate him because others are told to hate him. When I was growing up we weren’t supposed to judge someone before we actually met them. Now people will see something they don’t agree with and hate comes out. What happened??

When he pulled over the guy who ran the red light, I LOVE how his hand was on his side arm and ready, if need be! That’s how to make it home at the end of your shift. These are the kind of officers we need more of. He was forgiving towards the guy who ran the red because he looks like a man going through some financial hardships. You can tell officer Newton is a vigilant guy, hand on his pistol, carefully scanning the guy's car, makes sure the wife and kids are alright. Then he handles the situation respectfully as the guy was listening to his orders and answered his questions. Officer Newton is a role model for everyone, not just to police. I'm incredibly grateful that he's serving our community.

This is a really cool series and I'm enjoying it immensely. I spent just under 30 years working in public safety, both for the fire department when I was young and then moving over into law enforcement. This officer has a lot of fantastic qualities that does his department and the profession proud, that is for sure. One thing he has to be careful about is having his hand on his weapon for quite a while when he walked up and made initial contact with the driver of that white 4-door in the motel parking lot. The 9th Circuit has ruled multiple times that even though he's a law enforcement officer, that's actually a violation of the law and could be considered brandishing. If he has to draw his sidearm and point it at somebody that's all well and good, but to have your hand resting on it is simply not allowed in Cali and hasn't been for quite a while. Having said that, I totally understand his thinking and why he does it probably subconsciously. I worked a lot of nights in my day, and I can't tell you how many hundreds of T-stops I made where I actually walked up to the vehicles with flashlight in my left hand, and first my Smith & Wesson Model 686 .357 (that's how old I am, lol), and then later on my Sig Sauer P226 in my right hand shielded behind my leg. Of course most of the time things work out just fine, but several times when I saw something in the vehicle that ramped up the call real fast I had the drop on them before they even knew what was going on. I had several individuals tell me later that they could not believe how fast I drew my weapon and had them covered with it. I declined to tell them any further information other than simply stating that I trained a lot and was pretty quick.. Good stuff and great memories. I must say Tustin seems like a fantastic place to work in law enforcement. Safe wishes to all LEOs.....

This is better than COPS when it's in a city that you pretty much frequent daily. Love these virtual ridealongs.... I'd love to do a real ridealong some day to get an idea of the activities going on in my city.

Thank you TPD and Officer Newton for showing the human side of a Police Officer.

He let homie go and gave him his weed back after passing a red light and not having his child in a car seat . That's the reality of being a good police officer using discretion on non violent crimes 💯

One red light isn't a criminal act. It's a civil infraction used to collect money, and start the process of making a criminal out of a person. A busy intersection in middle of rush hour and not at 3am with the streets empty, except for some dumb ass officer ready to collect money over nothing. And the judiciary up holding such a b******* infractions.
"What are you asking the court to do?"
"I'm asking for a subpoena for the DOT to fix the light"
"That's a different branch of government, you'll have to take that up with them"
Needless to say I wanted to say something that I knew would get me thrown in jail.

Idk man that felt like a situation where he should've gotten a ticket for at least one of those offenses, how did you just get out of jail the day before and you're already doing shit like that
