    The pure enthusiasm and love for Bach and organ history displayed in Doeselaars expressions could keep me entertained for hours! Truly one of the greatest Baroque organists of our time.
    You have done it once again Netherlands Bach Society! Please never stop producing this incredible work.

    Mr Doeselaar, thank you very much for this video, which I found very interesting. Your enthusiasm and knowledge for Bach are obvious, but so seldom does one hear an expert such as yourself explaining so clearly and concisely the finer points of the instruments on which you play. I would ask you to consider producing more of this style video to accompany the great performances you have already published here with The Netherlands Bach Society .

    Just a few weeks ago on PIPE DREAMS Michael Barone featured the Silbermann organs and now we get this beautiful music and insight from a master artist. This was so delightful. Many thanks to all!

    I want to write just my deepest and most sincered thanks. It is for me real joy, to have this opportunity, to listen listen to real personalities and a master like Mr. Leo van Doeselaar. I wish more people would listen and understand this, instead of the ubiquitous cries of stupidity in the todays world. Perhaps one day I will be lucky enough to visit the Netherlands and hear live concerts with Leo van Doeselaar, Ton Koopman, Sietze de Vries and other great organists I admire.

    As many have already said, I could surely listen to LVD speak forever about the organ. It's a shame that this is only a 6 minute video.

    I deeply feel in love with this organ upon hearing a beautiful vinyl-LP played on it by Karl Richter with the Dorian Toccata and Fugue, the Partite diverse sopra "Sei gegrüßet, Jesu gütig" and the Passacaglia: I cannot help believing that at that time, the organ sounded more original, mellow and less sharp than here ... th-cam.com/video/W2Qa01tASs4/w-d-xo.html ... th-cam.com/video/NbC-RfTieqg/w-d-xo.html ... th-cam.com/video/RBqN-yQdnu4/w-d-xo.html ... th-cam.com/video/3WAQYMcHWNI/w-d-xo.html ...

    While this organ indeed has an 8' Viola da Gamba register, Silbermann actually made this of the same construction (tapered) and scale as his 4' Spitzflöte. It's as if his French-based training from his uncle Andreas wouldn't accommodate building a true string voice, but he could fool his Central German customers into thinking they had a string voice in his Spitzflöte, so long as it was at 8' pitch! As to Silbermann's mixtures being too "soft," I believe that this in no way described the power level of the pipes -- which is certainly quite strong -- but instead pertains to how these mixtures were lower in pitch than was the norm in most other German organs, whence a less "penetrating" effect.

    Here is a link to hear Marie-Claire Alain playing music of J.S. Bach on the Freiburg organ (th-cam.com/video/8Qr9TUjNVxk/w-d-xo.html). As many probably know, Alain released _3 sets of acclaimed recordings of organ music by Bach, a feat not likely to be equaled!_ When asked why anyone would undertake this Herculean task again and again, Alain said that more and more historically important organs were made available to musicians over time, including those behind the Iron Curtain. It’s so wonderful to hear the way other organists interpret Bach’s music here on TH-cam, and I’m so grateful to The Netherlands Bach Society for this enormous undertaking!

      @WMAlbers1 ... Yes, I know it from a Brilliant-Classics CD with a Dutch organist titled "Passacaglia", with all sorts of passacaglias from different composers, first and foremost of course Bach´s great and unparalleled Passacaglia in c minor ... Honestly: it looks very similar to the Freiberg organ, however it sounds rather differently, I also believe that a different tuning was chosen for this replica which makes quite a difference ... It must be nearly impossible to make a really exact replica of a Silbermann organ, however it is a very interesting attempt and who knows one day the art of making replicas will be brought to perfection which would be good because the original instruments may not last forever, sad as it may be ...

    • @WouterTukker
      @WouterTukker 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @tcparker1000 ... I believe Bach thought very highly of him, since not only Altnikol helped him finish "The Art of Fugue" at a time when Bach gradually lost his eyesight and could no longer finish his composition in writing but also Bach recommended him to become the first titular organist of the amazing Hildebrandt-organ in the Church of St. Wenceslas in Naumburg ... th-cam.com/video/0ABXN0zwb9U/w-d-xo.html
