I think ignorance is bliss is a local maximum type thing. going from knowing very little to knowing a bit more about almost anything tends to make people less happy, but knowing a lot about many things gives you the ability to find greater happiness. I think this also applies to the suffering aspect, by default people are unaware of many types of suffering, it's a drain on them they don't notice, and learning about things causes them to perceive the suffering that was already there, and they blame what they see on the knowledge that let them see it, but eventually they learn enough to identify the actual causes of their suffering and can address them
27:03 its not the curse statue, is the knight statue. There is a chance for the armor to be possessed by that creature that drops the enchanting coin when killed
I'm currently studying at university to become a researcher, so when you started with your (very long question😂), I first thought to answer that ignorance is bliss, while real, is for... Well, the ignorant, for people afraid of what's out there to know. But when you brought all the psychology and self-discovery, it hit me that I myself want to use ignorance is bliss in some aspects with my personal problems. So to revisit your question, I believe ignorance is bliss, is a very real phenomenon, and while it hinders progress and discovery (both personal and as a whole), everyone has a different subject that they will like to ignore. For example, first, like you stated, nihilism can give some dread while comforting others. The example I immediately thought about was that you have tiny bugs on your face that eat your dead skin, sweat, and oils. Someone may find the first comforting while wishing they never knew the second, while someone else will wish the opposite. Not everyone needs to know everything, but no one must truly be ignorant to all.
I feel like it’s a 50/50, depending on the person. Some people like to learn, ask questions and know what is happening in their lives and so forth, but with some people, disturbing things or existential things may cause suffering or anxiety, or even depression in some. Ignorance is not bliss for me at least, because I know (as a Christian) that I don’t have to worry about this world because I have hope for something greater. Although sometimes it does seem like it’s all for nothing or like life itself is like a spec of dust in the universe, you should always strive to learn, even if it’s difficult or disturbing for you. Ignoring things may seem like the right thing to do in the moment, but in the long run, if you push through, you can make new experiences with those troubles. That’s my opinion at least! 👋🏻😊
I believe that ignorance is bliss depends on the situation. Even if someone says they don't want to know something. Sometimes it's good for them to know for them and everyone around them.
Regarding the question of the day about ignorance is bliss i can compare it with a double edge sword meaning that knowing a lot sometimes can make you feel discomfort and painful thinking, on the other hand ignorance sometimes can bring you peace but its not good in a long term. Being informed is good i general , information makes you navigate to take the best decision on certain scenarios. I really look forward to your opinion on this (sorry if i made any writing mistakes )
In Russian there is a close phrase to “ignorance is bliss” and it sounds like “Less you know, better you sleep”. It doesn’t mean to be ignorant at all and often understood as “you shouldn’t crave to know everything just for cause of knowing, especially if this knowledge doesn’t serve you any purpose”
I was taught, and through experience the idea was thoroughly reinforced, that knowledge has a weight to it and everyone has different emotional/psychological strengths. There have been very few things I have truly regretted learning, mostly of a physically visceral thing, the oddly sweet smell of rotting flesh, or the sharp vinegary scent of cerebral fluid being up there . Generally speaking, if one has learned accepted the concept of mortal limitations and fallibility, and embrace that human perception has strong limitations, there are few things will truly hurt you knowledge wise. Transient or bridge concepts like nihilism and deconstructionism (modern, post-modern, and otherwise) are only really harmful if you are forced to stagnate on them, as many people with more secular educations typically are. Jungian and post jungian psychology can be rough if you can’t differentiate between theoretical postulation and objective fact, spiraling into depression as you question the very nature of concepts like individuality, subjective relativistic reality, and emotive drives and the question of free will. Most heavy philosophical concepts are somewhat circular in nature, revolving around the subjective and objective ( or rather the lack of) perception. One must accept that they as an individual, are flawed and imperfect, never basing the cornerstone of their psyche on something as feeble as being immediately correct, and should be able to suspend their own beliefs, or rather disbeliefs, choosing to anchor themselves by something external, preferably that remains static to them. A quote by Soren Kierkegaard that I’m about to butcher comes to mind, “That when one comes upon the realization of the absurdity that is reality, there in lies only three paths forward. The first being to embrace the delusion of human perception that all is as it seems, nothing more, nothing less, that there can be nothing greater than what lies in man’s sight. The second is to forcibly reject the reality that lies before you, removing oneself from iniquity that is life, bringing a final sure answer to that which is. Finally, is to embrace the innate shortcomings of the human condition, and garner hope that there lies things beyond immediate perception.” TLDR, if you can accept that as a human, that you are stupid and shortsighted, and truly believe that, ignorance can only really hold you back. But as you move forward in life, you should be able to get a grasp of what will and won’t make you unstable if you have ever achieved a minimum level of self-awareness and honesty to know when to stop poking things.
my take is that ignorance is truly bliss in some aspects of life, say your dearest friend of many years is a an amazing person and the best there is, you confide in them and trust and care for them deeply, if one day you find that they dont feel that way to you, infact maybe even find it a tad annoying, i think in that case ignorance is indeed bliss, yet you can also look at it as a downside, so whatever case it is, i think being in the know is better than to not, id prefer to know something thatll hurt me than not know it
So a lot of people don't know this, but the original quote where this concept originated was actually: _If_ ignorance is bliss, then knowledge be truly folly Basically meaning IF ignorance is bliss then any knowledge is pointless and potentially even counterproductive. This is obviously rediculous, so the original quote was actually meant to mean the opposite as to what it's been taken in modern times. I think this is enough of an answer regarding the quote in and of itself. There is of course nuanced situations where knowing something specific could be advantageous in some way, but ignorance in and of itself is not justifiable. Things worth doing are usually hard. Also, in your specific example, all the knowledge you've gained has enabled you to interact better with the people around you at the cost of your own peace of mind. Do you think it's worth bettering the lives of the people around you because you recognize patterns that the human condition manifests at the cost of some of the quiet of your mind? In my book that's a worthwhile trade any day of the week, so the net positive is actually higher than the negatives. And also, being fairly new to these ideas is the hardest time, after having time and experience wielding them will afford you more understanding and peace with the facts of the matter.
RE: the question of the day - Ignorance CAN be bliss - especially if it's ignorance about the evils of the world. However, I have always and will forever maintain that knowledge is a power that no one can take from you. You may be blissful by having no knowledge of what you're missing out on, you may be blissful because you don't realize that you're being manipulated or lied to, etc etc, but at the same time you render yourself powerless. So, yes ignorance CAN be bliss...but only as long as you are okay with being powerless to engage in the world, change the conditions of your life, or understanding how/why your world is the way it is.
2:47 yes I absolutely do believe ignorance is bliss in certain aspects , for example my car is making a ticking noise that I can only hear with the hood up (hoping it’s not a lifter) and now I’m worried . If I didn’t know about it I wouldn’t have a thing to stress about
@sifd I found the easiest way to beat and not get hit by the chaotic wreckage (area 1 boss) is to to follow it closely. It cannot turn fast, and its movements are easily telegraphed so staying close allows you to move out of its way then follow it quickly to avoid it easily
My opinion about any "ignorance is bliss" thing is that: If everything is for naught, then why not at least try to spend the days you have to have fun and make happy memories. Because if everything is for naught in the future, then at least make memories so that you can smile back upon when the time for that "naught" comes. If you go through your life with the thought of "what's the point, I'm going to die eventually anyway," you won't really be happy when you do eventually die. However, if you go through your life with the thoughts of "I'm gonna die eventually, so might as well make it as happy as I can until then," you will probably not get depression. Ignorance is bliss is definitely a thing for the common "I wish I didn't know that, I would have lived better without it," however it also is technically a thing for those who don't know much about our own feelings. We don't even know about our own bodies, or even the world at that. What if we come across a thing that changes our viewpoint of the world entirely due to that one thing? That's basically the exact same thing as a child who knows nothing about the real world outside their house and toys growing up and seeing that things aren't so fine and dandy, no? Point is; Ignorance is only bliss if you take the information given and start blaming, doubting, and getting angry at yourself or others. If you can take the information that got you out of ignorance and turn it into something that boosts you to do better, happier things, then "ignorance is bliss" doesn't apply to you. You could be in a toxic relationship, find out about a thing, then move to a better, happier life without that relationship. In which case, ignorance was not bliss, ignorance was suffrage, and the relief was the knowledge you obtained and how you used it. Because someone in the same situation might have not done the same thing as you and had made themselves even worse in life. Ignorance is only bliss if you end up hating yourself enough through blame, or whatever it may be. If you can look past that, you can truly find happiness elsewhere behind the new knowledge you've obtained. Although, I'm only 16 years old, what the hell do I know, I'm just a kid on the internet, right? :D
I mostly agree with you. I think that the pursuit of knowledge is rewarding, and the more we know the closer we get to understanding the truth (of any given thing), and i think that is important for the betterment of humanity itself.
Ignorance is bliss is something I do believe in, many things that someone would never need or want to know are out there and it’s uncomfortable to find it out (which is exactly why I pester my friends with that knowledge). In human psychology, knowing that people are very different than outwardly what they are and work in a very confusing way is something that can have massive impacts on your life, many people experience something dramatic and realise this. I believe ignorance to this would also mean you wouldn’t be in contact with it / wouldn’t see it so it can’t really affect you, and that is blissful to live in a world that you think is kind to you. This subject is really big and I just wrote about a somewhat niche part of it.
I think ignorance is bliss is only really applicable to hindsight. I rather know something than not but sometimes learning it can make you reflect on the past and that can lead to unhappiness.
"Ignorance is bliss" is worth a lot of weight, depending on the situation, because you have the part that "lived" with knowledge and you have the part that has Beyond this knowledge X, and with new information being bombarded it can create a disagreement in the mind Where everything you carry in your mind (X) tries to connect with the new information, almost being several bridges between two walls, Bringing confusion, denial, Disagreement, strong questions, acceptance, etc... Almost bringing a mental breakdown, bringing you Pauses in your train of thought, totally blurring your actions. This happens a lot with information, knowledge that we have, and for others it is very easy to identify than we ourselves
On the topic of "ignorance is bliss" I find it useful to delineate what is being classified as "ignorance", and by extension, its inverse. In this case, I believe "a lack of broad understanding of many common esoteric events in the world" would be fitting. This would mean that the inverse is a deep and intrinsic understanding of common esoteric events. This can also be a definition of intelligence, so a quasi-objective measure can be found using intelligence as the starting point. When doing this, it is pretty easy to find several studies that find very strong positive correlations between high intelligence and mental disorders like anxiety and depression which find that the participants genuinely were more broken people because they understood the deeper meanings of the events of the world around them. They feel them on a much deeper level. So stepping back through the logic - Statement: suffering comes from understanding Inverse: bliss comes from ignorance Converse: ignorance is bliss.
Yeah, and if you loose such bliss, then face it with tempered mind and determination to stay the way. We are all destined to leave this place, our existence here is but a breath of the eternity around us.
Ignorance in bliss, is, in my opinion, the best description that nihilism and nihilistic thoughts need to avoided, the aspects of stagnation and depression is mainly meant here. Nihilism is a fundamental double edged sword, because it ensues those aforementioned negativity, but also promotes the fact that it doesnt mean anything so you can do everything, aka optimism. Also ignorance is bliss is also quite literally important due to some knowledge will have negative impact on people.
I'm watching you from Turkey I have a lot of fun watching and I'm also trying to improve my English and fast talking. In Turkish, we call "buket" a bouquet of flowers .It see normal to me at first, but I feel strange when you how it was pronounced. If you want to say "buket" combine "book" and "at" "bokat". I wish you continued success. I'am 23 years old
Ignorance is bliss should only extend as far as not concerning yourself with things that are outside your control. And as auch should be used to reassure that you cannot fix something you do not know, but should not used to justify ignorance in and of itself
You need to hit the Knight statues and they'd have like a 1 % chance of spawning that black tentacle thing that dropped the money shot spell a couple days ago.
26:20 buuuut siiifddd, isss the other statueee thatt mayy spawn the miniboss that drops the unique money is dmg spell !! The statue with the shield has a very slow chance to spawn it when you attack it. I saw it the last time you found the mini boss!! You were using bomerang and one of them hit the statue and it started to shake and spawned the monster
More often than not, “ignorance is bliss” is used in a theological sense. It is easy to live however you want whilst ignoring consequence of any kind. When one hears of any theological foundation that details consequence for sin, “ignorance is bliss” and when one forcefully tries to ignore their conscience reminding them it only amplifies the uneasy feelings of guilt and shame. Some at this state would turn while others embrace the lies of their ignorance as if their actions will not have significant consequence.
Ingorance is bliss hits me when i go in to 1 game and my friends go into a different game when that happens conversations about their games ruin my experience listening to them talk about their game and also when i play the game later i now have knowledge that sucks the fun out of it.
Ignorance is never bliss in my opinion. Ignorance is bliss is simply a way for people to use others in a way to maintain control and power. People who have knowledge are those who can truly create bliss for themselves instead of allowing others to tell them what is and is not blissful. Ignorance is a weapon that turns misery into a false sense of bliss.
Ignorance is Bliss is a situational thing to me. There are things that only bring harm to have knowledge of. The SCP wiki is filled with thought experiments about terrible things that can happen to you only if you know about them to the point they gave it a name. (Cognitohazards) Though by the nature of this sort of thing you usually find out that the knowledge is harmful _after_ learning it, and plenty of knowledge is useful. Most knowledge in the real world seems to be a mix of harmful and beneficial, so most of the time it is better to accept the good with the bad and just learn when given the chance. But if you can be certain something will be exclusively harmful to learn, then I can understand trying to keep others away from that knowledge.
"ignorance is bliss" is pretty silly I agree. However, there are many aspects of knowledge that can really harm your day-to-day life. Say for instance you are known to be a hypochondriac-- you assume you have the worst possible disease when you feel bad. If you get a headache, then knowing about brainn aneurysms will directly hurt your psyche. However, other people will be able to learn about this disease and live a better life knowing that it won't likely happen to them. Most things in life exist somewhere in between absolutes. I believe the best method is this: generally live your life erring on the side of caution, but weigh the benefit of happiness over risk. Know that some knowledge can ruin your happiness, but don't let that rule of thumb dictate your life.
QOTD: like you were saying I feel like ignorance is bliss in certain things, for example say you are given the knowledge of everything. You would know everything you are saying is fact/true yet everyone else wouldn’t believe you. So i think there’s a difference from ignorance being bliss compared to common ignorance being bliss. For example Einstein being called crazy because everyone else was just too ignorant to understand his theories.
ignorance is bliss... idk, really you said it well in my opinion, just to reiterate i think that it's good to know more stuff, the problem, i think, is going too deep down the rabbit hole too fast, like imagine being blind for your whole life but suddently you see everything, a normal human being would be overwhelmed at first and knowledge is the same imo the tininess of the human race and the tininess of oneself compared to it may even lead to depression in some cases causing the person to say that he was happier before, my solution is exposure therapy slowly learn the new stuff, even derive it from something you already know like the first guy that descovered it did and again take your time, this is really time and energy consuming but it's the best i could come up with
ignorance is only bliss to those who choose to not apply their knowledge, all knowledge can be used to benefit yourself and others, it’s all about how you apply it
It isn't so much ignorance is bliss as it is the ignorant are bliss. With the endless information at our fingertips, there is no reason to be ignorant.
As most things about Human psyche and Behavior they require Nuance so my answer i guess is Sometimes "Ignorance is bliss" and sometimes "Ignorance is sorrow"
Hopefully sifd plays the other character I’m interested in seeing them. Ignorance is bliss until curiosity comes into play then ignorance becomes the drive behind discovery
i got the pickaxe to level 6 one time (basically one of the few relics i had early and got a bunch of "upgrade random relic"). It's basically just +{lvl}% every 2{+lvl} coins. So yea, don't know if they changed it but i basically had more % damage than coins
I do believe that ignorance is bliss, all of it, I am extremely addicted to knowledge, and one piece of knowledge that made me believe it is how puny and extremely worthless we are compared to the whole cosmos, and the more you study it, the more you can acknowledge it, compared to a planet we already are completely tiny, and if you zoom out, you can notice how fast and how much the human race or any other type of life does not mean anything, it also applies to philosophical meaning of our mind, the more we know about it, the more you realize that we actually only feel things because of chemical reactions on you’re brain, and you start to believe that there’s not a single feeling in the world that is real, and yes, it made me enter depression and deposit into more and more knowledge
There are things that i wish i was still ignorant of EG pictures of severe injury, films of people murdering innocent people etc. In general though i think education is a good thing even the bad can have the effect of increasing your likelyhood of choosing self preservation over taking unnecessary risk (or turn you into a shut in hermit). A balanced and diverse education and keeping an open mind is the way to go when seeking out the unknown.
Ignorance is bliss is true only because when obtaining incomplete knowledge it leads to all faulty thoughts If you were to have complete knowledge it would be better than ignorance
All humans i know and did check up on it, are "ignorance is a bliss" this isnt a bad thing, let you sleep at night. Even i do know, that i avoid some things, so things can go on. there is is a quote from lao tse in tao te king, on of my favorite quotes from the book. Knowing the Ignorance is the highest. Not knowing what knowledge is, is an affliction. It is only when one suffers from this suffering that one becomes free from suffering. That the one who is called does not suffer, is because he suffers from this affliction; Therefore he does not suffer
After hearing you talk a little about "ignorance is bliss", here is my line of reasoning, I think that up to a certain point of ignorance, yes, it is bliss, because after a certain point knowledge, if not handled correctly It could very well become a curse, because people with more knowledge tend to be more "unhappy" because the mind doesn't stop thinking critically automatically, and for me this is bad, however as someone who has already learned to "turn off" the critical thinking mode with the help of stoicism, I recommend that you continue the search for knowledge without charging yourself for things that are irrelevant to your individual and not for "I can't control x aspect of my life" P.S English is not my native language, I still have difficulty writing large and complex texts in English, Google Translate helped a little, But reading it in English still doesn't seem right to me
Also I want to point this out to you its better to put arcane explosion on the right side of magic bullet it makes it so you can projectile the explosion so it's not on you also I wonder if full Salvo would still work while also applying the arcane explosion to the magic bullet
I've watched every video since I've discovered you, but do not care for the thought provoking questions. Please do not be offended that I skip ahead until you focus on the game.
You were told correct concerning the statues, you just attacked the wrong one. It's not the de-curse statues, it's the black coin-spell-giving-tentacle boss, he hides as one of the basic knight statues holding the shield.
Ignorance in the end is bliss, in the way that children are happier than adults. In my personal opinion, and experience, knowing more has led to great levels of despair, yet a greater enjoyment of things as a whole, giving a meaning, and a greater sense of purpose to the little things. Change is uncomfortable, but life is uncomfortable, if people stay children their entire lives who cares, as long as they function and are happy, who are we to impose our level of thought upon themv
Hey sifd what you are talking about is nihilism and I believe a good way to view it is through buddhist philosophy which notes that change is permanent. But rather than seeing it as you and I which is isolating, it teaches that we are all one in unity. And maybe realizing that will make you feel less "independent" and uncaring of your actions once you realize that everything exists because of a ever-changing web of interconnectedness between all things.
not being aware of some things can enable you to have a better experience on something, like not knowing how chicken nuggets are made, on the other hand, not knowing doesn't allow you to appreciate things, and the people that worked on those things another commenter talked about things we ignore on purpose because we don't have the emotional capacity to know about. there was a pretty bad fire in the city I live (more than 50.000 people displaced), and a couple of friends went to the morgue to help the people there, I knew better than ask them about their experience there, because that would be too heavy a burden for me, so ignorance is bliss applied for me there
Ignorance is Bliss is most often times used in situations where 1. Knowing causes you issues/pain, and 2. The knowledge isn't something you're willing/able to act on or doesn't help you. Take for example if someone told you that someone you knew cheated on their spouse 10yrs ago and the spouse never knew and they are happily married. Are you morally obligated to tell the person about the cheating even if it will ruin the marriage? Not knowing would spare you from that. Another example is in regards to Feminism and the Patriarchy. Teaching women about feminism and the oppression of the patriarchy makes them more unhappy. They've done studies. Feminism needs women to be unhappy because otherwise why would they want to throw off the oppression of the patriarchy? Why do you need to get an education and work all day at a job you hate if you are content letting a man provide for you? Ignorance is Bliss is true in some situations, but is often taken too far and becomes coddling. You don't need to know that Sam got clamidia and doesn't want to tell the adults, but not telling your children your family you lost your job and can't keep spending like you used to means they can't adapt to changing circumstances.
I believe that ignorance really is bliss because what changes between my experience in a simulated world where i believe that i am experiencing reality and my current reality where I believe i am also experiencing it. Would neo find joy or happiness if he was not the chosen one?
I think ignorance should be a choice because of people are so innocent that it would be cruel to give them those thoughts and because of people than just can mentally handle them
SIFDDDDD WHYYYYYY... if you had used your mimic cube + on your arcane explosion + and used overload scatter you could have had the craziest thing of all time :(
Ignorance is not a good thing, but not everyone is comfortable knowing certain things. IMO, this is an issue that should be handled with a mix of education and counseling as a kid grows up. Not because there is something wrong with a kid, but to promote a stable mindset that can handle learning things they’d rather not.
Your question is a broad subject but from what you have asked I can give an opinion. The knowledge or experience that is learned can be an affect to the reaction and emotions of the subject or person processing the newfound data. How one can be at a gain or a loss of the unknown or known can be a variable dependent on the final outcome of the learning or acknowledgement of the subject. One scenario is the personal private knowledge. How would you feel if abruptly your parents went into intricate and vulgar detail about what they do behind closed doors? Is that something one ought to know? Probably not hopefully. This is the example of the data that has no immediate or long term use of the data. Another thought is the idea is an explorer or hiker knowing what is safe to eat or what is not. What the local faunas' patterns are and the basic survival skills for the region they tread in. We all can agree if we knew this collective tangible skills we would be better off and wouldn't find ourselves in a bad situation we could have easily prevented. Lastly the they don't know and I know aspect of knowledge. For people that want to control another keeping them ignorant and lacking in knowledge selected will keep the unsuspecting individual from escaping their mental or physical bonds. Take a cult leader, should the cult following discover any evidence contrary to the cults beliefs they would be ran off or worse to keep the leader(s) of the cult in power. So, to answer your question, Ignorance is Bliss, depends on several factors. Far more than the very basic prospects that I have given. My answer and opinion is Yes and No. I would rather know as much as I can. The more I know about any subject can possibly give me a better chance at survival. Also, one should use the Socratic method when dealing with this in a group setting. Is a great way to understand yourself and the world a little better.
32:40 this is why I think you shouldn't build money is power because of the opportunity cost you could have just tried to get a organic heart + 3 damage boosts and that would have been better than money is power I think
The poor man lives in his castle of filth, the rich man lives in his multistoried shack. We are symptoms of our past and products of our emotions. Ignorance is what makes existence bearable. Nihilism aside I hope one day logic will guide us to prosperous understanding.
In my opinion I think knowledge is always good it's just how you take something And if you just get something that makes you process everything to be able to do things just ask one question is it important or not? If it's not necessary just don't over think it
Ignorance is bliss I belive in knowing a lot but not showing that you know a lot If the more you know the more people nag you and use you Could say you are more important if you know a lot but in the end you are important because you can be used and it’s exhausting life to live
I believe "Ignorance is bliss" does not exists in regards to the idea that knowledge of reality or truth is somehow a negative that ruins bliss or joy. As mentioned by other comments, Seeing and understanding suffering and difficult life questions isn't enjoyable and can cause a great deal of anxt and personal difficulties. The ability to learn and develope oneself is far more important than a life of ignorance and "Bliss". For example with regards to our self awareness we have to confront reality, your idea of everything is meaningless aka nihilism in the west, is a belief similar to a religion, it just concludes there is no god/morales etc. Self reflection allows you to see that and wrestle with the idea and maybe even investigate it and other ideas more. Is life really meaningless? Is it only for each person to decide thier purpose, etc? These are good questions and its always good to peel back the layers and evaluate each idea and look for answers that line up with our reality and experience. I have done a lot of searching and concluded very differently regarding life and its purpose, and the reason I believe we are saddened by the idea of meaningless is because we are actually made and made for a purpose. Many people do not like the idea of God or religious views, but Jesus Christ offers actual meaning purpose and life both here and forever. Not a "religion" in a traditional sense, just faith and relationship with the person Jesus. I only add this because it is sad for me to know that so many people believe their lives are meaningless, when everything we experience and go through in life like love, joy and compassion are so real and point to something so much greater. Hope the post isn't to long, but its a fun conversation to have. Thanks for your videos Sifd.
Regarding independence: Independence is responsibility. Responsibility is not always a good thing. Too much responsibility can be absolutely crushing and believing that you have to do everything yourself and that you have to solve all your problems on your own is an unhealthy mindset. Be aware that you are a person and as a person you are your own existence, be aware that your existence is defined by you and the choices you make, be ready to bear the consequences for your choices. But do not try to shoulder the world and the entirety sphere of your existence for the world is large and there are so many things related to you that are not, or maybe even should not be, under your control. Regarding "Ignorance is Bliss": The answer to this depends on the scope of the question. Yes, the lack of awareness of certain things can be helpful. It is even vital for the regular function of the human psyche. Our brain is not capable of processing and caring for all the information all the time. As such it filters information to narrow the scope of your perception and allowing you to focus on the important things around you. An imbalance in this function of the brain can lead to hyper vigilance, sensory overload, panic attacks and other dysfunctional stress responses. I believe knowledge can be treated the same way. You do not need and should not strive to know everything that is going on. Naturally, this does not mean you should remain ignorant of all things. But there must be a measure of importance. Similarly to how your brain filters information, knowledge can serve as the filter through which you judge and evaluate the world around you. Yes, knowing film theory or knowing an actor did a bad thing can take away some of the simple enjoyment from viewing a movie for example. But at the same time, this knowledge allows you to perceive different things, make different conclusions, observe different aspects of the movie than you would have without this knowledge. Does this make you happy? No, not necessarily. Knowledge is a burden. A common adage in philosophy is that philosophy (literally the love for wisdom/knowledge) is the art of learning existential despair. And one should not seek to be in a constant state of despair. But at the same time, this burden opens the door to other kinds of experiences, apart from simple joy. One should not seek to be and yet seek one should. Is ignorance bliss? If we look at bliss as just existential contentment as the dictionary definition and the etymology would suggest, then yes, ignorance is bliss. Ignorance allows for the pure hedonistic pursuit and experience of joy such as in a very young child. A blissful mind know no burden. But is bliss always desirable? That should be the real question.
If the apes didn't venture out into the unknown, staying in the trees because they were happy with the way things were, then we wouldn't be here right now.. ignorance might be bliss in the way that more knowledge can bring depression.. I think ignorance is bliss is best used to describe the opposite, dealing with stupid people is frustrating so being stupid must feel blissful.
ignorance is bliss is a statement for a reason, because its true, let me explain it using your experiences. yesterday you had a pretty good summon build you were extremely happy with how it turned out, but after you read the comments and learned that you were one misplaced spell away from being 6 times as powerful you were at least slightly upset by the missed opportunity. simply put when you were ignorant and dudnt know you were super happy with the build but when you learned you couldve had better you expressed a small level of regretting not seeing it with that in mind to answer your question, ignorance is bliss but sometimes its better to know, for example lets say your car has a problem, if you dont know about it you wont stress about it, but if you do know about it you will stress about it, but youll also be able to get it fixed, ignorance is bliss but knowledge leads to happiness
Ignorance is bliss is definitely a real thing as once ypu learn too much about the world everything becomes depressing. If you can live without learning some horrible truths why even hear them? But for me I also believe that no matter hpw ugly some things may be you still need to learn or understand about it because what if some knowledge is inevitable and you are simply elongating the time it takes for you to learn it. Edit-I am just typing this while watching your vid but for the part where you said that the world is meaningless, thats the part where I like to think God comes in place. I am a muslim so I think that whatever good I do in this world will affect me positively in the next world. Thats why I think religion is pretty important to have a sound mind. Thats just my opinion though👍 Edit 2-By the way the money is power relic goes upto 4 from when I played it.
I find when a lot of people say "ignorance is bliss", they are often talking about knowledge that doesn't directly benefit your life or your ability to live it easily or freely. do you think the people who are suffering from a plague would rather be ignorant of a cure? or the person who had a major wound on their leg would rather it be cut off due to the ignorance of medicine to find the correct surgical procedure? on the flip side, i would never wish to know the cause of death of every homicide case in my city... that knowledge would do me no benefit, and only cause me distress knowledge is a burden, and a lot of people divorce the weight of that burden with the benefits that it gives. Knowledge allows one to search for opportunities and navigate them, it allows one to forge their way through life with autonomy. So ignorance may indeed be bliss, but only for things that have no benefit to your life, and knowing what things those are is a skill in itself. On a side note, there is an effect i've notice about people who take philosophy courses, they all inevitably start seeing the world through the lens of whatever philosophy course they've taken... i attribute it to a similar case of finding a new word and then suddenly hearing it everywhere. The problem with this, is that philosophy is subjectivity in essence, and there is no bigger liar to you than yourself. Knowledge is a tool, and like a tool, if you apply the wrong piece of knowledge one will of course will have a difficult time, or a flawed output. Just as the idiom "if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" doesn't point to the idea that a hammer is bad to have, so too is "ignorance is bliss" has not caught on because people believe knowledge is bad, only that knowledge is a burden, and sometimes that burden costs more than the benefit it gives.
Ignorance should not be something that one should chose. Being able to gain knowledge at any rate is always a benefit even if it does go against what you believe. Stay Safe TF. Oh BTW if you get meteor you can blow away the stone blocks for extras & other things. you should try the meteor build & see what fun you can have. TF
Ignorance can become a very selfish endeavor. The pursuit of truth has value. For some, the study of philosophy leads to hope and to purpose. Once you realize that all people have value, you can encourage others to persevere and to thrive, regardless of the circumstances.
The more you know, the more likely you are to become depressed. There is a good reason for this. Knowing things is great, to a point. However once you hit a point of scholarly knowledge the worse you typically become mentally. As a small example, almost monthly the earth is in a near catastrophic collision with space debris, all it would take for most of our current technology to lose most functionality is for one of several tens of thousands of objects in LEO to move an unexpected inch(Gold Rain), more than half the world's second world countries can achieve this if they want to, it would take around 15 seconds for them to do so, if they wished. At the pace we are thrusting objects into LEO and UEO we will need to solve this issue within a projected 20 years or it will cascade. So on and do forth, it's even worse once you learn more about our planets projected future and such. I went into a depression spiral after talking to a fellow associate about disease research and production and the major issues a single micro dot of unnamed liquid could cause globally (think small pox, but several times more deadly and contagious).
I think ignorance is bliss is a local maximum type thing. going from knowing very little to knowing a bit more about almost anything tends to make people less happy, but knowing a lot about many things gives you the ability to find greater happiness. I think this also applies to the suffering aspect, by default people are unaware of many types of suffering, it's a drain on them they don't notice, and learning about things causes them to perceive the suffering that was already there, and they blame what they see on the knowledge that let them see it, but eventually they learn enough to identify the actual causes of their suffering and can address them
i agree with this take
I agree too
I Also agree.
I was going to make a comment of my own, but bro here stole the words out of my mouth
Best summary I've read of this
27:03 its not the curse statue, is the knight statue.
Finally, is to embrace the innate shortcomings of the human condition, and garner hope that there lies things beyond immediate perception.”
TLDR, if you can accept that as a human, that you are stupid and shortsighted, and truly believe that, ignorance can only really hold you back. But as you move forward in life, you should be able to get a grasp of what will and won’t make you unstable if you have ever achieved a minimum level of self-awareness and honesty to know when to stop poking things.
my take is that ignorance is truly bliss in some aspects of life, say your dearest friend of many years is a an amazing person and the best there is, you confide in them and trust and care for them deeply, if one day you find that they dont feel that way to you, infact maybe even find it a tad annoying, i think in that case ignorance is indeed bliss, yet you can also look at it as a downside, so whatever case it is, i think being in the know is better than to not, id prefer to know something thatll hurt me than not know it
So a lot of people don't know this, but the original quote where this concept originated was actually:
_If_ ignorance is bliss, then knowledge be truly folly
Basically meaning IF ignorance is bliss then any knowledge is pointless and potentially even counterproductive.
I had a feeling that it was only a partial and possibly wrong quote but hadn't looked it up yet. heh.
RE: the question of the day -
Ignorance CAN be bliss - especially if it's ignorance about the evils of the world.
If I didn’t know about it I wouldn’t have a thing to stress about
Care trying a "must open all cursed chests" run?
The realisation that everything is for not realy bosted my confidence, because I understood that it doesn't what I do, so I might as well be myselfe.
I mostly agree with you. I think that the pursuit of knowledge is rewarding, and the more we know the closer we get to understanding the truth (of any given thing), and i think that is important for the betterment of humanity itself.
Definitely. Ignorance is definitely bliss but the knowledge of the reason of ignorance is loads better.
"Ignorance is Bliss" is a purely circumstantial thing. I think it's only a partial quote though.
I think ignorance is bliss is only really applicable to hindsight. I rather know something than not but sometimes learning it can make you reflect on the past and that can lead to unhappiness.
There is spell transparency setting with a slider so you can make spells as transparent as you want to see what's going on in builds like these.
Thanks for the knowledge of those puzzles. Never knew that. I will put it to good use
So stepping back through the logic -
Statement: suffering comes from understanding
Inverse: bliss comes from ignorance
Converse: ignorance is bliss.
You should look up Maslow's hierarchy of needs. It gives groundwork for understanding people's motivation.
This run is an acid trip. You can barely understand what you're seeing but it's fun.
Sad to hear that you lost so progress hope you do a fire build soon
2:30 No, the more you know the more you can understand the world better and find true happiness and realization.
Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is survival.
Knowledge is also power.
23:06 Money room gives ~20 coins while a shop has a chance for a side room with potions, which may contain another doubling potion 0_o
Yeah, and if you loose such bliss, then face it with tempered mind and determination to stay the way. We are all destined to leave this place, our existence here is but a breath of the eternity around us.
the dev are so smart, making meteorite bounce xD
Ignorance in bliss, is, in my opinion, the best description that nihilism and nihilistic thoughts need to avoided, the aspects of stagnation and depression is mainly meant here. Nihilism is a fundamental double edged sword, because it ensues those aforementioned negativity, but also promotes the fact that it doesnt mean anything so you can do everything, aka optimism. Also ignorance is bliss is also quite literally important due to some knowledge will have negative impact on people.
To be honest I lose track of Sifd's character *A* *LOT* towards the end of these runs.
Holy smokes. Is that prison Mike???

Well, heal on kill is a real blessing in the 3rd zone cause there are so many enemies
The paused explosion looks like that moment in jjba (SAA WORADU)
You can decrease the opacity of spells in the settings.
Sifd is become light, destroyer of our eyeballs.
Oh so thats what you get after lvl up. Btw how many times can you lvl up? Will it give you better bullets? I'm wating for the lvl ups
For example Einstein being called crazy because everyone else was just too ignorant to understand his theories.
ignorance is bliss... idk, really you said it well in my opinion, just to reiterate i think that it's good to know more stuff, the problem, i think, is going too deep down the rabbit hole too fast, like imagine being blind for your whole life but suddently you see everything, a normal human being would be overwhelmed at first and knowledge is the same imo the tininess of the human race and the tininess of oneself compared to it may even lead to depression in some cases causing the person to say that he was happier before, my solution is exposure therapy slowly learn the new stuff, even derive it from something you already know like the first guy that descovered it did and again take your time, this is really time and energy consuming but it's the best i could come up with
I aM sTiLl ThE gHoSt Of ThE lIgHtNiNg DaSh RuUuUuUuUuNnNnN! Do NoT fOrgEeEeT oF mEeEeEe! 😢😢
17:10 safe boxes can have keys inside of them
ignorance is only bliss to those who choose to not apply their knowledge, all knowledge can be used to benefit yourself and others, it’s all about how you apply it
It isn't so much ignorance is bliss as it is the ignorant are bliss. With the endless information at our fingertips, there is no reason to be ignorant.
As most things about Human psyche and Behavior they require Nuance so my answer i guess is Sometimes "Ignorance is bliss" and sometimes "Ignorance is sorrow"
I will watch later because im watching one serial right now, im very sorry
I have been wondering for so long but now I know who created blindness, it was you sifd it was you all along!
On ignorance is bliss: Better to face reality then to hide in the dirt.
I don't know whether I'd rather name this build rainbow bride or the kaleidoscope build, either way, it was fun but argh my eyes!!! lol
Is it weird that I say your intro at the same time you do at the beginning of every video? 😂
47:44 But Sifd, you missed a coin!
Ignorance is bliss is true only because when obtaining incomplete knowledge it leads to all faulty thoughts
If you were to have complete knowledge it would be better than ignorance
All humans i know and did check up on it, are "ignorance is a bliss" this isnt a bad thing, let you sleep at night. Even i do know, that i avoid some things, so things can go on.
there is is a quote from lao tse in tao te king, on of my favorite quotes from the book.
Knowing the Ignorance
is the highest.
Not knowing what knowledge is,
is an affliction.
It is only when one suffers from this suffering that
one becomes free from suffering.
That the one who is called does not suffer,
is because he suffers from this affliction;
Therefore he does not suffer
After hearing you talk a little about "ignorance is bliss", here is my line of reasoning, I think that up to a certain point of ignorance, yes, it is bliss, because after a certain point knowledge, if not handled correctly It could very well become a curse,
because people with more knowledge tend to be more "unhappy" because the mind doesn't stop thinking critically automatically, and for me this is bad, however as someone who has already learned to "turn off" the critical thinking mode with the help of stoicism,
I recommend that you continue the search for knowledge without charging yourself for things that are irrelevant to your individual and not for "I can't control x aspect of my life"
P.S English is not my native language, I still have difficulty writing large and complex texts in English, Google Translate helped a little,
But reading it in English still doesn't seem right to me
Also I want to point this out to you its better to put arcane explosion on the right side of magic bullet it makes it so you can projectile the explosion so it's not on you also I wonder if full Salvo would still work while also applying the arcane explosion to the magic bullet
Hello, Nice to see you again today Sif. Hope you are well!
And maybe realizing that will make you feel less "independent" and uncaring of your actions once you realize that everything exists because of a ever-changing web of interconnectedness between all things.
not being aware of some things can enable you to have a better experience on something, like not knowing how chicken nuggets are made, on the other hand, not knowing doesn't allow you to appreciate things, and the people that worked on those things
another commenter talked about things we ignore on purpose because we don't have the emotional capacity to know about.
there was a pretty bad fire in the city I live (more than 50.000 people displaced), and a couple of friends went to the morgue to help the people there, I knew better than ask them about their experience there, because that would be too heavy a burden for me, so ignorance is bliss applied for me there
Ignorance is Bliss is most often times used in situations where 1.
I think ignorance should be a choice because of people are so innocent that it would be cruel to give them those thoughts and because of people than just can mentally handle them
Shut up and listen boys. Sifd, the Mage came from his tower after crafting questions for us. 🧙♂
First legendary spell in magicraft is blindness
32:40 this is why I think you shouldn't build money is power because of the opportunity cost you could have just tried to get a organic heart + 3 damage boosts and that would have been better than money is power I think
The poor man lives in his castle of filth, the rich man lives in his multistoried shack. We are symptoms of our past and products of our emotions. Ignorance is what makes existence bearable. Nihilism aside I hope one day logic will guide us to prosperous understanding.
In my opinion I think knowledge is always good it's just how you take something
And if you just get something that makes you process everything to be able to do things just ask one question is it important or not? If it's not necessary just don't over think it
Boo-Kay, sift, Boo-Kay!
Ignorance is bliss
I belive in knowing a lot but not showing that you know a lot
If the more you know the more people nag you and use you
Could say you are more important if you know a lot but in the end you are important because you can be used and it’s exhausting life to live
Regarding independence:
Independence is responsibility.
Regarding "Ignorance is Bliss":
The answer to this depends on the scope of the question.
I think ignorance is bliss is best used to describe the opposite, dealing with stupid people is frustrating so being stupid must feel blissful.
ignorance is bliss is a statement for a reason, because its true, let me explain it using your experiences. yesterday you had a pretty good summon build you were extremely happy with how it turned out, but after you read the comments and learned that you were one misplaced spell away from being 6 times as powerful you were at least slightly upset by the missed opportunity. simply put when you were ignorant and dudnt know you were super happy with the build but when you learned you couldve had better you expressed a small level of regretting not seeing it
with that in mind to answer your question, ignorance is bliss but sometimes its better to know, for example lets say your car has a problem, if you dont know about it you wont stress about it, but if you do know about it you will stress about it, but youll also be able to get it fixed, ignorance is bliss but knowledge leads to happiness
Thats just my opinion though👍
Edit 2-By the way the money is power relic goes upto 4 from when I played it.
I believe knowledge is power
I find when a lot of people say "ignorance is bliss", they are often talking about knowledge that doesn't directly benefit your life or your ability to live it easily or freely.
do you think the people who are suffering from a plague would rather be ignorant of a cure?
or the person who had a major wound on their leg would rather it be cut off due to the ignorance of medicine to find the correct surgical procedure?
on the flip side, i would never wish to know the cause of death of every homicide case in my city... that knowledge would do me no benefit, and only cause me distress
knowledge is a burden, and a lot of people divorce the weight of that burden with the benefits that it gives.
TF

"I'm really really really "
Ignorance can become a very selfish endeavor. The pursuit of truth has value. For some, the study of philosophy leads to hope and to purpose. Once you realize that all people have value, you can encourage others to persevere and to thrive, regardless of the circumstances.
Ignorance is bliss until you realize the unexamined life is not worth living. Once you believe that, it's impossible to return to a life ignorance.
