What I've done for salsa is make a base out of roast/grilled jalapeños, onion, and garlic, then add cilantro, salt and lime. Pulse in the food processor, then freeze dry. Then I just thaw out crushed tomatoes or roast tomatillos and let the salsa base rehydrate in that. I might give that one more pulse in a blender. No chance of watery salsa and it tastes amazing.

Salsa is sooo good freeze dried! One of our favorites to rehydrate when we want that fresh salsa for our tacos.

Hi! I may help to adjust the setting of your Impact Sealer. It looks set to "1", and the light goes off almost immediately after you put the bar down... The light is your timer! Set it to "7" and then hold the bar down until the light goes off - then check your seal. Not sure if this helps you or not.
    Love your channel!

Lol You and I are so much alike! My husband listens and says is that woman your long lost twin? We dont look a like, but your mannerisms, your fly by the seat of your pants way of being is spot on.

I love our freeze dryer! Such a game changer and seldom use my dehydrator anymore.. herbs, fresh garden produce, left overs, there is always something! Bonus, if we need a quick meal or an ingredient, just add water and it's available within minutes!!!

The way things are going these days you may need your freeze dried food sooner than you think. My brother and I are freeze drying like there is no tomorrow. Most people have car insurance, health insurance, life insurance but when you freeze dry you add food insurance. With gold/silver you add money insurance, with solar you add electricity insurance, and with guns/ammo you add liberty insurance. Have them all. If you freeze dry though make sure you have plenty of water storage or be on a well (and have a way to run the pump if the power is out). Need to be able to reconstitute all that food or you'll die of dry mouth. :) God bless from MD.

One of your video you ask for us to share recipes, I made fire Cider for the first time. What do you think?
Most of this is from your Fire Cider recipe, I change the cranberries to elderberry because I couldn't find cranberries. And I added Thyme.
    Fire Cider
    1 Half Gallon Jar
    1 Lemon
    1 Lime
    1 Orange or blood Orange
    1 Ginger root
    1 Jalapeno
    1 Small Horseradish root
    5 Garlic cloves
    2 Tbsp. Rosemary
    2 Tbsp. Thyme
    1 Tsp Turmeric
    1 tsp Black peppercorn
1 Tsp Cayenne pepper or Red Pepper flakes
    ½ cup Dried Elderberry
    • Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother in it-

Used to have a vacuum sealer... and jar adapter... that's a great secondary canning option after freeze drying, IMHO.

I had an abundance of tomatoes last year and put them in the freezer whole. I just bought a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer and would like to freeze dry them. Any suggestions on how to go about that? Thank you! (I LOVE your channel! You’re one of my very favorites to watch! ❤❤)

I enjoyed this channel so much more when it was about herbal preps and making teas and tinctures. Learning about herbs and foraging. Did I miss a switch or is there another channel now.? Where’s your Momma? I tried going back and can’t seem to find the answers. Now it seems it’s just all about freeze drying which I’m on board with just miss all the other content.

Hey there! It is winter here so not much is growing in the garden and same for foraging. I have not put out a freeze dried video for the last two months. As for my mom, we wear many hats and sometimes it is best to put the camera down :) this is just the season that I am in and my life.

We just invested in a Harvest Right freezer dryer a few months ago. Love it. I can’t wait to use it for herbs but have a question for you,
Once you’ve freeze dried the herbs are they considered dried or fresh since they reconstitute? Like making a mullein infusion you’d want to use dried leaves but the hot water would reconstitute them. It’s confusing me.

Very good video and i need to put my freeze dryer to work a lot more. I have bought a lot of freeze dryed foods in the past. Now with my Harvestright i sure need to do a lot more preps with it. Many in europe are telling people plan for 7 years of preps. Danial done that for 7 yrs. of plenty. Deep South Homestead just said to plan 7 yrs. and i herd this last year also. Several years back i had thought this an now many are saying the same thing. QUESTION CAN YOU MYLAR HERBS FOR FUTURE YEARS IN MYLAR BAGS WITH OXYGEN ASORBERS? I love all your herbs you have -- looking to have something like yours in time. Thank you for all your teaching

I totally understand your poor tomatoes. Fair warning. Once you get hornworm you cannot plant in the same place. The best practice is to always plant in a different place each year for protection. If you can't the best thing to do is right after taking out the tomato plant after harvest is to dig up the soil around the plant and replace it next year. The reason is horn worms winter the winter underground. If you dig the soil up and find them there you will get a reinfestation the next year. I started growing my tomatoes in shallow feed troths used for feed, not water. That way every year I replace the soil and give the worms I find to the chicken. Yes, the feed troths are expensive but I no longer lose my crop to the worms.

After a week or so, go back & double check the seals on your bags.
The Harvest Right sealer doesn’t work for me. I double sealed all my bags & later found I could pull the bags open with little effort. 😔
