      Mitch, I like your editing style but I would love to see a video where you edit tons of photos with your presets. It would be awesome to see how they work, how you use them, and whats the results. Its scary to buy something not knowing the process of developing it and the conditions that works with it..etc if that make sense ?

    Loving this video so much. First of all, the colors and look and feel of these photos are so gorgeous I could look at them all day. Secondly I love that you made a casual video comparing just images. I get so tired of all the talk and not just being able to see side by side images of camera comparisons. LOVE.

    I think the 85mm f/1.8 versus the 56mm f/1.2 would be an interesting comparison because both the focal length and aperture would be similar.

      I didn't think they looked similar at all. Especially the depth of field. The full frame sensor on the Canon made the Fuji look like a point and shoot

      ** I have both a 5d mk4 and Xt3. Whilst there is of course a difference from full frame in respect of DOF (easily resolved by lens choice and subject to distance composition) to describe the Xt3 as ‘point and shoot’ is well wide of the mark.

    You said it right. They are both amazing cameras and they compliment each other. Canon has amazing colors straight out of the camera. I personally also prefer the settings on the Canon. What's great about the Fuji is that even with a much smaller camera and sensor it is still able to deliver stunning images and videos. To achieve a shallower depth of field one can just use a longer focal length lens. Good videos.

    I use to own Canon 5d3, but switched to Fuji xt2 and now I have also a xt3. To be fare I was fearly new in photography when I made the switch. There is a differens in DOF, that is something you can´t really argue on. But for me smaller and lighter were and are just bigger factors than DOF and having a full frame DSLR. There is so much more in photography than just blurry background. That is something I have discovered lately.

    Thank you so very much for this comparison. I made a mistake when I sold my two Canon 5D Mark IIIs and went Fuji all the way... .I thought it would be simpler with lenses and flashes but after a few years using Fuji, I still miss my friend, the good ole' 5D....especially for night sky and landscapes with that gorgeous 14mm lens. I don't miss the weight and the Fuji's are great but you're right.... They do compliment each other and I didn't give that enough time. I appreciate your time putting this together.

    I own both the 5DIV and X-T3 and have found similar results too, which really surprised me when used both side by side. In your photos, I think I actually preferred the Fuji colours by a hair. Both cameras produced excellent results though.
    The difference in the out of focus background isn’t as significant considering the extra focal length/compression of the Sigma 50 over the Fuji 35 as I initially expected and if they weren’t compared side by side I don’t think it would be an issue.

      I am a canon user 5d Mark iv, and part-time photographer/filmmaker, I have invested canon glass almost 5 Canon L lenses. I am now looking to 4k film and not happy with canon reason is Crop, no 60fps, and huge file size. I also have Ronin-s which I use for the film. I have used EOS-R and not happy with it as it also has CROP and no smooth 60fps option, I am seriously considering Fuji x-T30 knowing that again I have to buy few Fuji lenses.
      My daily go-to gear is 2.8 24-70 & 70-200 zoom lens, Ronin-S & Handheld video bites, 5div, low light indoor party film Highlight videos. Max ISO I use 2000 to 2500 with 2.8 lenses, Love touch screen on 5d for focus and almost all my shooting is with Auto Focus. >>>
      With Xt3 I am not worrying about in-body stabilization or APS-C. Can someone please help me to make my decision: 🙌
      Would it be good or this kind of videos?
      Is XH-1 better for me than Xt3?
      Is Autofocus god to track subjects in low light?
      Noise & AF in low light?
      Any things I need to worry about?
      Can I use Canon glasses with Adapter if so anyone tried how AF is good with Adapter for video?
      I understand new firmware improves many things inc Focus. Is it good in video AFocus?
      Thanks a lot

    I actually have both these cameras . And use both for my wedding work, for me i find the 5D better with the wider lenses especially the zoom 24-70 mm range, full frame definitely gives you more subject separation when you want it, and with Fuji i find its better for the longer lenses, much lighter option with the 50-140mm great Image stabilization which actually works really well, i also use the the 90mm a lot for those moments when you really need super sharp, Shallow depth and image comprehension the 90mm is really a magical lens for its size. With this Combo i feel i am getting the best of both worlds. It also keeps your brain sharp going from one camera type to another through the day. When i shoot with the Canon its like an old friend muscle memory is instant, and when i grab the Fuji i feel its the way of the future and seeing the images via an EVF is something refreshing.

  • @brucesmith9144
    @brucesmith9144 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I liked the Canon 5D iv as it had a nice softness falling off in the background with the same lens opening. But the Fuji XT-3 pictures still looked great. The XT-3 price point is significantly lower than the 5D iv, so that is an appealing consideration.
    I also took note you had the Manfrotto plate on the bottom of your 5D. I actually prefer the Manfrotto mount (I own a couple of their ball heads); I like how it "locks in" when mounting the camera on the tripod.

    for people who buy fuji camera, one of the main reason and great advantages would be film simulation. it's so original that no other cameras can duplicate. even if you are an editing expert, it'd be not easy to make the same atmosphere that the original fuji camera can offer to the photos. if you are looking for small, light enough, and solid outcomes with no effort editing photos, and some original film-like touches on your photos, fuji is the answer and there is no alternatives on the market...

    Great video and interestingly, I have both of these camera's also. I prefer the Canon 5DIV overall as I prefer the lens selection and colors (and even the dynamic range) but the Fuji is far more enjoyable to use and travel with. The only issue I have had w/ the Fuji is more noise at higher ISO. A luxury to have both and I am unable to choose one over the other.

    Nice comparison. The Fuji shots were more contrasty, more film like which I think is typical of smaller sensors. I shoot Olympus M43, shots require very little processing to get the look I want and sometimes I do get the "wow almost film-like" comments.

    Great comparison. I noticed at 4:00, there was a color difference between the two with the bricks and also the porch railing and door. The canon seems to have less contrast, and it gives a “warmer” feeling IMO. Both cameras are great to work with and the lens selection made for a good video. Great content.

    Love this one! If you look the photos carefully and you are used to distinguish between FF and APS-C than you can immediately see which is which. As you can see at min 2:50 and min 3:55 here you can clearly see the FF Look advantage (at least in my opinion). Looks far more attractive to the eye when the subject is isolated a lot more than on a APS-C Sensor with the same Aperture. Although I am a biiig Fuji Fan and I love the X-Pro2 AF! But FF is FF...

    • @tomastuoma
      @tomastuoma 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair, both examples you pointed out could be a difference of aperture or focal distance. Especially the images at 3:55, the Fuji is taken from a bit further back, producing less background blur.
      But something here looks off to me besides that. The distortion in the fuji photo. The 35mm should have pretty much zero distortion, yet the bricks and the door do look a bit concave?

  • @dani_da_vision
    @dani_da_vision 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    from what I can see the main difference with portrait shooting between the 2 is the pop of the image/ pop of color. and bokeh of course. Fuji is very filmic and the tones are much more relaxed ( very interesting! ) where canon is in compare (and forgive me with this phrase ) is much more "instagramic" - and im not saying that in a bad way - it catches the eye more quickly and the image just pops . of course both great . it goes down to personal taste at the end. im a canon shooter so far have been using the rp ( full frame also) , im selling it now in order to get to the fuji train ( xt-3) probably . great video !

    Interesting comparison. How much post processing did you do? I have a Canon as well as a Fuji and the colours do not look typical of either. Looks like you are trying to achieve a film look, more like Portra that has been overexposed to mute the colours. It would interesting to see straight jpg's from both cameras.

    You own both the mitakon 35 0.95 and the fuji xf 1.4, which lense would you prefer to use for a wedding or event photography work ? Less DOF but AF or More DOF but manual ?

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hands down the xf 1.4 - you cant capture moments at a wedding with the mitakon, it is too slow to manually focus. At a wedding getting the shot is way more important than how it looks. Having said that I would def pull out the 0.95 on a location photo shoot at a wedding where you can control the scene and take your time. But if you're picking one or the other as an all rounder go with the 1.4

    Great Video,, I currently have a 5D mkiii,, and want to get something smaller for street/hobby photography.
    I'm trying to decide between the XT-3 and the X-T30, Starting to lean towards the XT-3 more and more, mainly just because its not quite as small at the X-T30. Going from a 5D to X-T30, not sure that'll feel right.. and the $500-$600 difference between the two Fuji cameras has me really debating this...

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ThyMusicMan I would honestly go for the xt30. If you’re only shooting stills not video there isn’t enough upside in the xt3 to justify the price increase. Even the xt3 is a tiny body so either way its something you need to get used to.

    Good to see the sites in Brissy :D . I see your using face detection on the cameras, how do you find the hit rate wide open with both? Should have stopped down the Canon to make it a closer comparison with bokeh but i like seeing both side by side and letting the audience judge from themselves. Slower portraits id imagine it would be hard not to get close to 100% but on faster moving subjects? Have you tested? I moved from Nikon D810 to exclusively to Fuji now, def more contrast of the bat and i feel you need to pull the shadows up more with Fuji, focusing in good light its decent.

Canon also wins in grip, battery life (two or three times as long), many lens options, from very cheap (but decent) to really expensive and excellent, cheaper third party lens options too, weather sealing, faster and bigger buffer, no problems with RAW files if using LR, better overall handling for professional work, even sports.

      if you edit Fuji RAW files using Lightroom you can in fact use the film simulations as a base for your edits. it took me some time to discover this. I for example align my colors and tones together using Classic Chrome as a base.

    • @glacieractivity
      @glacieractivity 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NEXUSREIGN48 In capture one, the simulations comes as in software presets. (And yes - I love Classic Chrome to bits. Because I was almost 100% Kodachrome for colour back in the analogue days. And although Fuji does not say it - "classic chrome" is based on Kodachrome).
