Strapping can come in real handy if your ohm load is a little off. My subs can be wired to 1 or 4 ohm. I had them on a single amp rated for a 1 ohm. I now realize I have roughly 2x rise so the amp sees 2 ohms at it's lowest. I'm not getting full power from it. Instead of replacing it with a giant amp that's not going to be fully utilized (running at an actual 2 ohm instead of 1), I decided to buy a second identical amp and strap the two together. This is a lot cheaper and I should see triple the power. 👍
I started up my van last Sept. And my master salt8 popped when I started my van up. Voltage was fine it just didn't wanna wake up that morning but they gave me a new one.
I'm glad I found your channel, brother. I'm back into car audio again after taking many years off. I appreciate your videos. They have been very helpful.
Love watching your videos as everytime I do I either learn something new or find out about some new piece of equipment that I've never seen before. I just got into the audio scene in 2020 so have been doing nothing but learning since so watching the videos and learning about even all the older amps and subs and etc is pretty cool to me.
I got to skar rp4500 strapped final ohm load half ohm, yes I strapped while the sub wears wired at 1 ohm. Can go full tilt for 30 minutes and amps still barely warm and sub coils getting hot.
Bruce Lee and those fried rice looking good brotha... Jeeps looking good too... But umm the more you mess with it sometimes bound to mess up unless you're super upgrading on your level of bassnness 😂
Great video, i went back to strapping my 2 JBL club A amps cause i got a new 18" trinity audio TAS-M18..I had them gain matched when i was running my AB comp 18" (older yellow cone AB) Working great but man if i ever blow master and slave goes with it im going to be upset! I understood the master/ slave explanation. but I could use some clarification on how you currently have the subs hooked up in the jeep. how do you have separate coils on separate amps? lost me on that a little bit.
Jerry has (3)- D2 coiled subs,= 6 coils. Just to make it easier to understand, lets say each sub has a Left 2 ohm coil, and a Right 2 ohm coil. He runs a speaker wire from the #1 subs, +, and - ,of its right- 2 ohm coil, to amp #1. Then he runs another speaker wire, from the #2 subs, +, and -, of its right 2 ohm coil, to amp #1 again. He does the same thing to the 3rd subs, right 2 ohm coil,= wire goes to amp #1, for the 3rd time. ( (3)- 2 ohm coils in parr.= a .67 ohm load, on amp #1). Now the 3 remaining, Left 2 ohm coils, all get wired to amp #2. This is done, to try, and even out the amplifier power, between the subwoofers. Like if amp #1 puts out 3300 watts ( 1,100 per coil ), and amp #2 puts out 2,700 watts ( 900 per coil ), it will even the amps out, to= 2k per sub. Hope this helps?
Ok would it be ok if I wire my two d2 subs to .5 with my amp strapped it would be .25 each but with independence rise it will be a little higher. Is that ok oh yea they are Korean amps jp43
I would NOT recommend 1/2 ohm strapped. Every time i have tryed that, even on korean, half bridged amps, i had issues. Just run 1 amp to each sub, @ 1 ohm, gain matched. Damping factor will be much higher, and the amps will stay cooler= super long demo times!
Hey bro I got two American bass HD V2 d1s 12s and I got two vfl comp 2.5 KS ultra cap extra battery all 0 gauge wires and I ran my strapped but my strapping Port burnt up had a short in it obviously I didn't know that and now I'm running like what you showed I'm running 1 amp to each voice coil and then I'm running the other amp to the other voice coil I'm running at half home everybody says I'll blow everything up I haven't yet the amps don't get hot and they get about 90 to 100°and I bang them all day long I started getting this problem where I got I did my gain match but when I turn the bass knob all the way up I'll get this weird progressively loud noise like a tone and I don't know what the hell's the problem I turn my gain down to about a quarter I'm trying to figure out the voltage that I should be having for an output for a tone to get to 2500 watts to each sub
My question is: u mentioned that u've got 1 coils from each sub running to 1 amp and the other coils running to the second amp. Could I do the same with 2 15s? Would I need an ocilioscope to tune both amps? I've often wondered if I could run a coil to the 4 speaker terminals on a monoblock amp, and if so, what would my final ohm be? If I have a dual 2ohm coil, and a 1200watt RMS 1 ohm stable amp, would the final impedance be 1ohm and would I get the full 1200watts RMS from the amp?
the 4 speaker terminals on a mono block amp are connected. there is only one channel. the 2 negatives are connected and same with the positives. Unfortunately you cannot split a mono block into 2 channels.
You would need to have 2- 1200 watt, 1 ohm stable, monoblock amplifiers, to have a 1 ohm load, with 1- pair of dual 2 ohm 15s. Run (1)- 2 ohm coil,( the right coil) from sub #1, and (1)- 2 ohm coil,( the right coil) from sub #2, both ran to amp #1= a 1 ohm load. Then just take the 2 remaining, Left 2 ohm coils, and run those speaker wires to amp #2= a 1 ohm load.
Ok. I understand what y'all are saying. It doesn't really answer my question tho. It somewhat does, but at the same time it doesn't. I have a single D2 sub and a 1200watt RMS 1 ohm stable amp. I understand y'all say that the 4 terminals on a monoblock amp are as 1. So it shouldn't matter if I hook 1 coil to 1 + n - of the terminal and the other coil to the second + n - terminal, my question is, what would my ohms be? Would I be at 2 ohm or 1 ohm? Do y'all follow what I'm saying?
