I am a Vietnam Vet (Marine) and I love this song. I seen my share of killing but there is usually one that you can never get out of your mind. On April 23rd 1969, while on patrol, we were ambushed and a boy from Raleigh NC by the name of Willard Till was killed. You will find his name on the Vietnam virtual wall on the internet. His death was so unnecessary. It took me 20 years to find the nerve to locate his parents. I am from Michigan and a drove to NC to meet his parents in 1989. Tears flowed like a river. They had prayed for 20 years that God would send some one who was there when their son was killed, so they could know that he "came home" . They couldn't be at peace because the casket was closed, do to the condition of his body. It haunted them not knowing if he really died and that was his body in the casket. That night as we sat at the table, I told them, Willard never suffered. I heled put his body on the helicopter. We all went to see his grave the next day. I look his mother in the eyes and told her ' Francis, Willard is home" . Willard was 19 years old. Just a boy. This boy was 18.
ZORAN, thank you and I return the respect. . I remember the war in Serbia. It was massive bombing and genocide. No place for an 18 year old boy to be but war has no respect for age. I am happy to know you made it threw alive.
I am more then honored to have served. I do appreciate you for recognizing my service. For anyone out there reading this, if you want to put a smile on the face and a tear in the eye of a Vet, just walk up to him or her, reach out to shake their hand and say 'thank you for your service ". They won't bite and they will love you for it.

What an emotional song. I joined the army when I was 18, and didn't have any girlfriend. I remember the feeling of loneliness in the weekends, while other soldiers had a girlfriend I was totally lonely. It was many years ago. After I finished my army service things turned the other way around and I had girls fighting for me. But the feeling of Loneliness is like a scar in the soul that leaves a mark forever. Today I'm happily married, but each time I hear this song it gets my emotions high up as I reminisce. Life is beautiful but without love it's worthless. All the best ❤🙏

It’s a pity they got so much flak in the early 2000s. You can tell from their songs they do support the troops, even if they don’t always support the decisions of the leadership of the troops. Hell, lots of us spoke out about it at the same time. There was a lot of doubt that what we were doing in Iraq was 100% right. (Which was later proven correct.)
I so admire these women for protesting with their music. The power of music delivers that message both deeper and wider. They paid a heavy price for their sincerity and commitment. It delights me to see an enormous audience followed The Chicks’ truth and shunned the music biz liars that tried to crush them. I know this video addresses something far more important than that fight, but as a musician I send them love and endless admiration for their courage and strength.
I am a Vietnam Vet (NAVY) and I love this song. I am a vet. Don’t like to talk about it much. I will just say this. God hold those that sacrificed everything for my freedom. We are all indebted to you. I stand and hold a salute to you. My brothers and sisters. 🇺🇸🙏❤️
The first part of the song gets me every time , the fear, the vulnerability of the soldier is captured and it sets up the rest of the song. This is one of the most well written songs out there, they sing the story so well.
this song was playing in the gas station right before i dropped my bf off at the recruiters office. it was raining. he left . he came back ~changed some for good some for not so good. we married and then divorced. we had hard feelings for years then one day i received a message from him. almost 15 years later we are back together and happier than ever. this is our unofficial song. i say it reminds me of him he says it reminds him of me ........love is a wild thing. he is my everything
My great uncle left his love for Vietnam, she left him before he went there..she was a peace and love activist and they didn’t talk until about 13 years ago and they got married. He fell ill with esophageal cancer and passed back in 2018. Imagine the life they could’ve had together.
Had two uncles travel to Vietnam and not make it back alive. I served during Desert Storm. The travelling soldier song really hits hard when I remember friends and family that are lost.
As a military wife and whose grandparents were the same, this song is one of few that I hold dear to my heart. My soldier came home every time and the day I picked them up I played this song, cried and thanked every being he was good.
I was in 6th grade in 1967 may bro was in the 82nd I remember being scared for him now my 20 year old son. Is serving I'm certainly proud and thankful for all who have served and continue to serve 24/7
This has been one of my favorite songs from the DC. I have listened to it one million times. Tonight I time and started reading the message . Wow. Thank you everyone who has served in the wars. God bless you. That took a lot of courage especially for an 18 year old to go to Vietnam. I come from a long line of family men who has serve in every war to date. Back to the revolutionary war. I’m a proud American. My dad flew a flag everyday!!
This song gives me chills. Haunting, touching lyrics, one of my favourite songs. Thank you to all that have served. You are recognised and appreciated.
This song is my favorite of the Dixie Chicks. My date to the jr. prom was a West Point plebe. It was my first date and a wonderful evening. Four years later he was killed in Vietnam along with a few of my classmates. It was heart breaking to go to the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial and find their names. I cried like a baby and my husband didn't understand because he didn't lose anyone he knew.
Wow I have loved this song forever but this version was amazing. My father was drafted a week after I was born in May of 69. Ended up in fort Riley Kansas in the MP’s and thankfully never went overseas. My brother was born on the base in nov 70. My father recently passed away at the age of 72 from a Glioblastoma and I also just found out that he was at fort Gordon where they were testing agent orange and although my dad made it home back then he may still be a victim of that war. Thank you Dixie chicks for such a heart felt song

Vietnam vet, 1970-71. Always liked these gals and this song, in particular. Agreed with them about Bush, too, if truth be told. Glad to hear they finally have a new album coming out!
What more can I say? That was FANTASTIC! 3 Girls, 3 instruments 3 voices/harmonies. Much, much better than the modern stuff out now in my opinion. BRILL!
I love this song which brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. It reminds of times when I was on the burial team honoring returning Vietnam Vets. Two years I was there doing what they had done but thank God I made it home .
I know some people may disagree with their politics, but the fact the matter is though is that this song touched so many lives that are affected from war and deployment. As a military kid, this song helped me in my family go through the roughest parts of my father‘s deployments. If any of the members see this comment, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, perform this song, so beautifully and with conviction❤️
I'm a Vietnam war era guy. Didn't serve cause I was in the merchant marine. My son is currently serving in the army. This is the greatest song I have ever heard about the Vietnam era, about war and loss, about love. Dixie Chicks leave me breathless. Absolutely brilliant, capturing all. Thank you so much. I just want to say I thank you allbecause every time I see a marine I'll give him a firm hand shake and thank him and all of you four-year-olds bravery. You guys are the best and will always be
It's really hard not getting emotional listening to this. We all know a soldier that's really close to us and think of them coming home. Looking at how it's effecting the audience is exactly how it moves everyone of us watching this right now. God bless the Dixie Chicks - they've moved all of us 🇺🇸🇬🇧😍❤
From the first time I heard them sing this, however many years ago, with their unique sound, first - chills, then a lump in my throat, and then tears. Just can't help it. Every single time. This is just beautiful.
I am a Vietnam Vet who served with the 82nd Airborne Infantry 69" - 70". I recently have gotten into the Dixie Chicks music, and I really like this song in particular as a lot of my brothers in Nam never returned to their loved ones. I was more fortunate however, as I came back and married my college sweetheart. I've been married now 48 years, and I still consider myself a loyal patriot.
I Will Always LOVE the Dixie Chicks!!!! This song has a lot of meaning to me!!! My Dad was Army during Vietnam, and two Uncles, Marines, one who didn't return, via a Via Kong Sniper. God Bless these Fine Women and the Beautiful Music they create that touches my heart every time I hear their Blessed voice.
Had nothing to do with what she said being Correct or Incorrect. It had to do with talking crap about our President (who I personally did NOT like either) on stage in another country. At LEAST that is the issue in my eyes. That said... I feel that they got exactly what they deserved (one opened her mouth but the others backed her). Loss of income and fame. She made a choice and there are consequences for the things we do and things we say.
@@MrMechanic1966 Bet you’re the kinda guy who likes to talk about free speech, too. Wake up. There shouldn’t be consequences for criticizing the government. That’s what a dictator would call for.
@@erican5577 Free speach is fine but consequences are real. There are consequences for every action you take. Some are good, some are bad. The people dropped them like a hot potato and I was not sad to see it happen.
David Green so every single American has to love the president do they? Absolutely not. Bush deserved no respect. They were playing in the UK, where the public were strongly against Bush. He dragged us into another war on false pretences and we could all see it.

I know this video addresses something far more important than that fight, but as a musician I send them love and endless admiration for their courage and strength.
Study the nurses of the Vietnam War..
I am a Vietnam Vet (NAVY) and I love this song. I so much killing but there is all ways one that you can never get out of your mind . and I've never been able to shake the memories of my time in Vietnam. But these Ladies are pure Gold and even though this song make me Cry they give me a warm feeling in my Heart. They sing like they feel our pain. God bless you and keep you safe.
God bless you and thank you for your service!
I am a vet. Don’t like to talk about it much. I will just say this. God hold those that sacrificed everything for my freedom. We are all indebted to you. I stand and hold a salute to you. My brothers and sisters. 🇺🇸🙏❤️
Thank you for your service.Gid bless you!

Thanks for your service ! Don't forget the rich white boy who dodged the draft and called you losers and suckers God help the U.S.A
Build birdhouses. Much love, I'm sorry, and thank you.
Birdhouse in your soul my brother. Thank you for service. 🇺🇸
This is what you call real talent. No autotune. Playing real instruments. Sad country music like this is rare these days
I’m bawling 🥹🫶
Boy, that fiddler is just nailing those top harmonies. Sounds SO good.
The first part of the song gets me every time , the fear, the vulnerability of the soldier is captured and it sets up the rest of the song. This is one of the most well written songs out there, they sing the story so well.
tears for those didnt make it and tears of joy for those whd did
Man that crying woman at 2:38 gets me every time, tears rolling as I play this along
Me too!!!! Every time I hear this song I cry!!!
I guess her dear one's must be related to the song and she's feeling it in her bones..
Same 😭😭

happy for you both ! True Love
That's beautiful. I'm so happy for you both ❤️
What a touching story! Many thanks, Tracy Parrish, for sharing.
My great uncle left his love for Vietnam, she left him before he went there..she was a peace and love activist and they didn’t talk until about 13 years ago and they got married. He fell ill with esophageal cancer and passed back in 2018. Imagine the life they could’ve had together.
You never truly get over what you experience. Hard reality….
My Papa was in Vietnam, for 6 years he couldn't ever speak of what happened.
I've also had terrible tourist experiences overseas. What hotel did he stay in, so I know to avoid it?
I knew a guy who lied about it for more than 40 years. Ate him up.
Had two uncles travel to Vietnam and not make it back alive. I served during Desert Storm. The travelling soldier song really hits hard when I remember friends and family that are lost.
As a veteran, I really like this song. Touches the heart. Thanks Chicks.....
It is the chemistry in between them that makes the whole thing perfect: two instrumental geniuses with a charming and exceptionally talented vocalist.
As a military wife and whose grandparents were the same, this song is one of few that I hold dear to my heart. My soldier came home every time and the day I picked them up I played this song, cried and thanked every being he was good.
These ladies are so special to country music
My dad flew a flag everyday!!
my brother was the biggest Dixie Chicks fan when we lost him we played this by his grave
Susan Moran, Griffin here, clans expanded
This song gives me chills. Haunting, touching lyrics, one of my favourite songs. Thank you to all that have served. You are recognised and appreciated.
This song is my favorite of the Dixie Chicks. My date to the jr. prom was a West Point plebe. It was my first date and a wonderful evening. Four years later he was killed in Vietnam along with a few of my classmates. It was heart breaking to go to the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial and find their names. I cried like a baby and my husband didn't understand because he didn't lose anyone he knew.
Cheryl, you just broke My heart.
Cheryl Howe god bless you for keeping their memories alive
He should still cry for them they for no reason but fighting for the United states
@Cheryl Howe - would you please tell us the names of our fallen warriors you mentioned? God bless them.
He should have understood, it always hurts losing someone who is close to your heart.....
Thank you to all of the Vietnam vets. You all are truly appreciated by my family and I.
Natalie has a strong voice and puts a lot of her harmony into these verses. She leads well.
Gloria Lorna who Natalie

Ummm... Duh! She's the one in the middle singing the song. 🙄😠
Absolute perfection…

I'm a Brit I had family both sides of the Atlantic who fought and Servedt in Vietnam, Aiden, and both World Wars. Such beautiful song
BRILL!
They have aged like a fine wine. I actually think they're better now than they were 20 years ago.
This girls voice is lovely, sends a tingle down my spine.❤
I love this song which brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. It reminds of times when I was on the burial team honoring returning Vietnam Vets. Two years I was there doing what they had done but thank God I made it home .
3 very classy ladies,and always have been,💯🇺🇸❤️
I know some people may disagree with their politics, but the fact the matter is though is that this song touched so many lives that are affected from war and deployment. As a military kid, this song helped me in my family go through the roughest parts of my father‘s deployments. If any of the members see this comment, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, perform this song, so beautifully and with conviction❤️
One of the best songs they ever produced .. Not heard it in awhile but it's close to my heart ..
Strong voice, powerful voice yet soft voice, angelic voice......Beautiful. Wow!
Best night of my life in dublin in 2006 & everything about him was fabulous. I loved every minute of jon bon jovi concert. ❤
Music can make a 45 year old man cry. This is one of the reasons I love it so much.
Sometimes music speaks what you feel inside. Who's listening to this great music. 2024!
Stay true to who you are because you are so true.
One of the best female groups in country music. Natalie's voice is that rare kind of voice that you could never get tired of hearing. God bless you all.
The big thank you to the Marines that went and fought in Vietnam. and for the Marines that didn't make it back home. I just want to say I thank you allbecause every time I see a marine I'll give him a firm hand shake and thank him and all of you four-year-olds bravery. You guys are the best and will always be
These girls on my bucket list
It's really hard not getting emotional listening to this. We all know a soldier that's really close to us and think of them coming home. Looking at how it's effecting the audience is exactly how it moves everyone of us watching this right now. God bless the Dixie Chicks - they've moved all of us 🇺🇸🇬🇧😍❤
From the first time I heard them sing this, however many years ago, with their unique sound, first - chills, then a lump in my throat, and then tears. Just can't help it. Every single time. This is just beautiful.
THANKS....a Vietnam veteran....on the way out...of darkest dream ever...see ya on the other side....love..
.
@Mike Gibbs, thank you for your service
No....don't go......no, reach out
Oh Mike. I hope you woke from that dark dream and found the beauty and love in this crazy journey.
Stay Mike .. don't go
Mike: Thank you for your service.
Im a veteran in Canada and I love the Dixie Chicks, my Country and life even though I suffer with Severe PTSD.
I'm so sorry.
These girls know how to sing to the soul. Love you all thank you for your music. Especially in these times.
They still sound like heaven to me. I never once disrespected them, though many did. They. Were. Right. ❤️
Amen!
She chose to open her spoiled brat mouth and she got what she had coming. Simple as that. She is TOTALLY free to say what she wants... But there is no "free lunch". The people dropped them like a hot potato and I was not sad to see it happen.
David Green so every single American has to love the president do they? Absolutely not. Bush deserved no respect. They were playing in the UK, where the public were strongly against Bush. He dragged us into another war on false pretences and we could all see it.
One of my favorite such a great sing a long .❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’ve watched this 100 times and every time my heart bleeds for the beautiful lady at 2:38. I’m not sure if her story but I pray this song helped her!
To all the Vietnam vets thank yall so much! You're service to your country is appreciated! Each one of you deserve everything good in this world
Yes, I still listen to this song in 2019. And I still cry when I hear it.
To all who serve and have served Thank You from a great-full Aussie! Love this song!
You three young ladies had no idea what impact you would soon be making with this song. Two wars on the horizon that would take countless young beautiful americans in the prime of their lives. hearts woud skip beats at the sound of a knock on the front door. The uncertainity and then the inivetible. Damn just. . Damn
God bless Celine I feel so bad for her so nice to hear her voice again she sounded amazing. I pray for her and she looks so beautiful still.
I never get tired of hearing this song. It truly touches my heart ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I really love this girls 😍😍😍

Soulful lyrics... Music really touches heart.... Real tribute to the soldiers..... Reaction of the audience prove this....
Ok one of the best parts of this is watching the women singing along and connecting with the message. Transcendent.
Like the finest of wines 🍷
