No need, BlueBrixx already does it in a way Lego would never do. They have dozens of sets that are more challenging to build, more geared towards AFOLs. The quality issue: sure, their bricks are not 100% Lego, Cobi or GoBricks quality, but they’re not garbage, I’d say 80% the quality. The article you were quoting is likely just Ai-written content filler, as your rightly debunk each point :-)
I guess the main reason against a Lego Star Trek licence is that it has already been given to BlueBrixx. I am pretty sure that the contract clauses prohibit giving them to a competitor in the same area of business. The agreement wouldn't make much sense else. Sorry to say but this video has no point for me since there are already plenty of Star Trek construction brick sets. Don't know why you guys want to have them from that specific brand, just to have a x2 modifier on the price tag.
@@dasspielmobil6161 it depends on what you value. Color consistency with Lego has become terrible. Polished shiny surfaces of tiles is where I still see them excel. Clutch power is a matter of taste, I prefer a bit more grip like GoBricks. BlueBrixx isn’t top in any of those segments. Not garbage, but not top.
@@Vandueren5 I agree. When I judge quality, I factor in a lot of points like the aforementioned color consistency, the clutch power, the overall feeling of the bricks (e.g. sharp or soft edges)... I´ve never had any brand´s bricks break except Legos dark red and dark brown bricks, which is a HUGE factor for quality. But also the print quality, or printed details vs. sticker details, printed vs. digital instructions, sturdy resealable boxes vs floppy throaway boxes.... As for the sets themselves, the building techniques used and the detail level incorporated with smaller parts vs simplified shapes, depth of a build (e.g. 4 studs for a Lego house interior vs. fully detailed and enclosed building...) A lot of factors and I rarely see Lego doing more than the absolute minimum there. As you said: Not garbage, but not top, too. I am curious though. Doesn´t BB use GoBricks by now? The last set I bought was Burg Blaustein, which is already a little bit older, but the bricks were perfect.
I think it’s much simpler than y’all are making it out to be: CBS Paramount doesnt _want_ Lego to have the license. With smaller brands, CBS Paramount can demand a more-favorable licensing agreement. Lego doesn’t need Star Trek, particularly not while they have Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, and Jurassic Park licenses. But even more important than the licensing terms, it has long been rumored that CBS Paramount simply will not license Star Trek to a company that also has a Star Wars license. They don’t want to play second fiddle to Star Wars or worry that their licensee is going to put more or better resources behind Star Wars toys than they do Star Trek toys. When Wizards of the Coast bought Last Unicorn Games, Paramount yanked the license for the very excellent and hot-selling Star Trek rpg that LUG had been publishing. WotC had been publishing the licensed Star Wars rpg for a couple years at that point.
The design quality of Bluebrixx sets gets better from wave to wave. They are in the fifth wave of Star Trek now and those sets are significantly better then the early ones. They redesigned some of the first sets an they use prints wherever possible. I only miss nice minifigures.
I love Star Trek. My two favorite shows currently are Discovery and Strange New Worlds. I am also a huge Lego fan. So to see my two favorite things combined would be awesome.
The Difficult Creating Unique Sets is crazy to me. They do it so well with Star Wars (which has just as many complex ships and similar outfits if not more) that they can absolutely do it with something else.
Would love to see Star Trek LEGO sets. But it would be great if they rereleased classic LEGO space kits from the 80s and 90s, really cool ships and robots.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it. The megablocks Enterprise has discolored pieces. That could happen to lego pieces as well. Reddish brown and dark red pieces will deter and get cracks. Collecting lego could be pain in the long run. I bought a small ST Enterprise from bluebrixxx for my sister.. and that’s ok. 10 bugs for a small Enterprise, that’s totally fine. And I bought a Phaeser from bluebrixx. Perfect.
BlueBrixx got the Star Trek licence a couple of years ago and have been making sets since, they have smaller scale ships, large ones, art sets, shuttles, mini brickheads and even tricorders. Not sure what the quality is like It's not lego but the best we got atm
Well the Sets quality are good. I have around six of them ( VOY, ENT D and E, Delta Shuttle and same Mit Size modells). By the way they have allso the licence for the Stargate
And could not this be the biggest problem. Having other competitors already using the license and thus the possibility of comparison, especially in price?
@peschez I was more suggesting that Alex might not know about BlueBrixx and seeing as he has the mega bloks sets, i just wanted to let him know that there is an official non lego line still around
Okay Alex, you’ve got me. I’m a MOC builder and I own a few store-bought sets that I keep on display. Other sets I’ve acquired over time I parted out to add to my MOC parts collection, as well as random bulk buys. I was given Star Wars set 7171 as a gift in 1999, built it and parted it out. I bough the set 75212 for myself in 2018 but it was too big to display so I parted it out. I have the 75325 N1 Starfighter that I will keep on display (my own reasons). The legendary and new Star Wars sets are amazing, but I don’t want them (too much, too big, can’t display). BUT! If Lego starts making Star Trek ships… I’M IN BIG TROUBLE! I can tell you now that I want them all, and I will never be able to part any of them out! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Star Wars fan. A New Hope was released on my 11th birthday on May 25th, 1977 and I was there at a theatre! At the time I was an earlier Star Trek TV fan and this was a new ‘blow-me-away space concept’! So, the next level was more movies with Star Trek in the lead but three Star Wars movies that held their ground. The TV series ‘TNG’ was the new catalyst for my continued devotion to Star Trek, followed by ‘Voyager’ (DS9 is a rabbit hole I will “engage” in at a future date). What ever plagued Lego not to take on the Star Trek theme has way deeper roots than any one of the eight points from your review, in my opinion. So, Alex, please lead me and advise me (and I hope others) on the trek to ‘Star Trek Lego’. I will help and follow you in any way I can!!!!
Thanks for the comment. I love what you said here. So for right now, set coordinates to the second star to the right, and straight on until we get Star Trek themed LEGO sets.
I am also a Fan of Star trek. Did you know that Bluebrixx made already Star Trek models. The Quality is good. And they have a licence. So maybe that could also be one of the reasons Lego don't do it
I’ve been thinking about the likelihood of LEGO Star Trek “realistically” for about a year now. The truth is when you think about what LEGO has released since 2019 in terms of larger sets specifically: D&D, Optimus Prime, Stranger Things, The Ornithopter, and several other both original and themed sets with several more on the way. Realistically it is genuinely EXTREMELY surprising that LEGO has yet to produce at least a $250-400 UCS style Constitution Class Enterprise. And while I do prefer the design of the Enterprise D there’s no doubt I would add the first LEGO Star Trek set to my collection. I’ve thought about how they may have tested concepts for odd shapes like the Enterprise D’s curved saucer section which is very similar to the Cap’s Shield. So again I think it’s surprising it hasn’t happen but I’m sure they’ve experimented because designing a neck stable enough to hold the saucer section would definitely be a challenge in the same way as the UCS AT-AT legs (not impossible but a challenge to be sure) and while I’d like a romulan and Klingon warbirds I don’t think LEGO would produce those crafts without knowing they could do the Enterprise first given it is the most iconic ship across the franchise. So i personally guess between 2-5 years before they create at least one large set but I see it like lord of the rings with one large set yearly following the first enterprise. I imagine if there was a survey leak like we saw in spring 2023 it’s entirely possible that this set could’ve been featured but only time will tell. At least I hope we can get one set based on pretty much any series.
Thanks for the comment. I like what you said here. It does seem reasonable. Perhaps we see an ICONS starship as a test. It would be some big news for sure. Time will tell.
I see a lot of comments saying that Bluebrixx make Star Trek sets so we don't need Lego. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but Bluebrixx seems to only make starships. Of course, the first thing to do when you have the licence is the ship of each show, but a theme is so much more than that. How cool would it be to progressively build your own ship's interior like some people get to to with Hogwarts? You connect the bridge to a corridor, the mess hall, the engineering, etc. I'm a fan of the six first films so I would immediately buy a set of V'Ger, of Khan's Botany Bay shuttle, or the Vulcan Temple where the "resurrect" Spock, etc. I know this is more like nostalgia than capitalizing on a current blockbuster, but I feel Lego is slowly understanding that some of the collectors want things from their childhoods? I got back into Lego last year after 20 years when I saw that there were finally Lego Batman from Burton's era. And seeing that they are now releasing Lego Animated Series, I wonder if they're going to make Schumacher sets (which is probably the most appropriate incarnation of cinematographic Batman to makes toys). They made a Lego Home Alone mansion, they keep making Lego Star Wars from the original trilogy, they made a DeLorean and Bond's Austin Martin... Like you, I keep thinking it's possible. I remember when I was kid having to stick an antenna on a cylinder (sorry I don't know the parts' names) to make a Lego lightsaber and the colour palette was not like today. It's crazy how Lego evolved when I was not watching. When I was a kid, I wished for Lego Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones. Is it that ridiculous to wish for Lego Star Trek now that there is Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Stranger Things, Dune, Ghostbusters, etc. Oh and horror as well. Come on Lego. Shining's Overlook, Evil Dead's cabin and Alien. Sorry for the long post.
I know Lego will never do ST sets, honestly I’d be happy with more ST sets from Megablocks. I have the Enterprise as well, and I was pleased with how the pieces stay together. There were some cool mouldings too.
I would love to see Lego Star Trek Lego. The closest thing to it for Lego is the new city space sets where they use the crystals as the power source for their ships. But like you said if they made them it would probably take the rest of the money I have left to spend on it. Space 🚀😂
I saw these about 10 years ago and was able to get many of the interior sets. I created a FULL bridge set, including the viewscreen. Also did up an Engineering section, and was working on a medbay.
WOW, that article is so full of holes. There is plenty of room in both the sci-fi and the Lego Community for fans of multiple, occassionally competing, franchises (see Marvel / DC). I hope we see them one day - they would be epic!
Hey man. Nice channel. I too, am into Trek and Lego. I've been thinking of a nanoscale transgalactic starship using these trans-neon green quarter saucers. I'm thinking about the post-temporal wars era. A ship that carries 70,000 ot so humans and federation and non federation species to one of the galaxies in the local group. The saucer parts and other transparent slopes would cover a domed City for nano sized people so small, they would look like sand. I might make it come apart into different sections that become a star base, a starship factory, a mining/refinery station, and drop facilities to pop cities on planets to start colonies. I'm coming up with ways to make handheld Minifig accessories into little starships and shuttle craft. I'm looking for more ideas. And it would be fun to try and make it over 100 studs long. Heck Enterprise J was three kilometers wide. So huge ships like that would need to be small just to fit on a table. Microfig scale would make it fill a house. And Minifigs scale, big as a neighborhood or at least a block. Ideas?
I think it's the large number of mocs out there that keep Lego from getting the license and to avoid issues with moc builders. And now Bluebrixx has the license it's unlikely we will see sets from Lego anytime soon.
Anyone other then Lego holding the license IS an issue. None of these other companies hold a candle to Lego. They are all junk as far as I am concerned.
@@dd_zzero6827 How come? I built many BlueBrixx sets, amongst them Star Trek sets. The quality is very similar, in some aspects surpasses Lego by far. For example there are some perfectly printed parts, even across several pieces. Stickers are only used in very rare places (for example on the large-scale Defiant). Now, the first minifig series are being released, so there really are no shortcomings anymore.
@@dd_zzero6827 None of those holds a candle to Lego? If you mean expensive sets where the value is only the mini figurines, then you are right! Or if we talk like 10-20 and more years ago, then I also agree. But if you are really a fan of brick building and are not a fanboy of any company (and by the way, where is the gain in beeing a brand or company fanboy, except if you are an influencer and get some stuff for free?) and you look what happened the last few years in this industry, you have to come to the conclusion that Lego had decalained in quality and value, but keep raising the prices for their sets, while it is the opposite of what their competition does.
@@ronik24 And it's not just BlueBrixx, it's about every known competition. And as they are 100% compatible with Lego, you can also use Lego minfigs with Sets from the other companies. 🙂
Yes, there is a "non-competitor" clause or something comparable, also the conditions are not known. George Lucas was always the god of franchise, he has not made any mistakes. He has always taken care, Star Wars is the biggest franchise and that all others had were kept small. So LEGO can have Star Wars or can have all others. LEGO has decided for Star Wars and this was pretty sure the right decision for LEGO. But this also means, that we see now the 100th X-Wing, 50th AT-ST, 20th Millennium Falcon, the 20th Imperial class destroyer e.g. We have seen already everything more than once. And as Disney is hard working on to make a several million $ franchise...from a several billion $ franchise; Disney has lost me already as Star Wars fan with Episode VII and this was already prior, I have found again the interest in bricks as AFOB. So everything from episodes I to VI is running well, but everything else, Disney has produced...
There may not be any current Star Trek movies, but we’ve had multiple Star Trek shows in the last few years, including Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and Prodigy. However, with the recent mergers and streaming shakeups around Trek, that may change in the next few years.
I have that same Mega Bloks Enterprise. I've actually got the whole collection of the Mega Bloks Trek set. How they did the "neck" on the Large scale Enterprise is truly a marvel of engineering given how thin it is.
One problem I see: which shows/movies do you focus on? There are countless variations of Trek, crews and starships, and to satisfy expectations would be tricky. And also, Star Trek isn’t so much a kid’s show these days as the stories are more targeted to adults.
Another article mentioned that a condition of the Star Wars licence was that Lego wouldn't output other space themed sets along side SW... by the time that clause lapsed the ST licence had been snapped up by Megabloks.
The BlueBrixx Star Trek Sets are awesome. They have different scales depending on what you want. I have 5 mid scales ships, they look good and I can play with my kids. The only thing they dont have yet are mini figures.
I think the main reason is that it's another space set and they don't even make Lego Space anymore because Star Wars exist. Another reason is that the consumer group is too small. Because of the movies and games and stuff they have lots of kids wanting Star Wars stuff. The last reason I can give is that they need to have a large range of sizes of sets and Star Trek will mostly focus on massive ships that will cost too much for your average buyer. They could of course make micro ships and away team events and stuff. But I'm not sure that would be interesting enough.
Would one of the main reasons not be that the Star Trek ships are full of curves, that are difficult to approximate with LEGO as seen in Blue Brixx sets, while the Star Wars battle things are all angular and straight lines, making it easier to catch with bricks.
The answer is No and I haven’t even watch the video yet. But that bird of Prey looks pretty sweet, at least according to doc brown. No disney doesn’t own Star Trek, nor do they own Betty Boop.
I was raised on Star Trek. My earliest memories involve TOS - which based on air dates and my age at the time, would put it in early re-runs, circa 1974-5 or so. My single-mother would wake her kindergarten-age child up (who does that!?) after she got home from working 2nd shift in a factory so she and I could watch Star Trek together. I was also raised on Legos. No Duplo or other "child-friendly" sets, but straight-up "Big Box o Bricks - go build some stuff" haha. Additionally, I have a collector mentality and "auto-buy" certain lines such as the NASA sets. I also buy some of the bigger, more interesting ones such as the Titanic. Because of my collector-mentality where "if it's part of a set (that I have), I *must* have it ... I have actively avoided buying ANY of the Star Wars sets - simply because I would then "have" to get them all. But omg are they incredible! I put all this here as a message to Lego: You put out official Star Trek sets, and they are Auto-Buy. Immediately. Without question.
nice video Alex mate, i personally would love to see star trek sets done by LEGO, its a missed opportunity for sure, the one i hear a lot on my live streams is why doesn't LEGO make DR Who sets, that could be just as good
From my side I thought it was purely that other manufacturers had the license. Personally I think star trek sets could be pretty cool. Midi scale ships with no minifigs, playsets like command decks, engine room, battle sets. Battle packs (landing parties, crew vs klingons, crew vs romulan etc).
They should just try a few sets and test the market imo. Make TOS enterprise and shuttle Galileo, etc… see if they sell , then expand forward with TNG and etc..
I would love for LEGO to make Trek sets and I would buy them because I'm also a big fan of Trek. Unfortunately LEGO made a deal with George Lucas about 25 years ago that they could only make Star Wars LEGO and no Trek or other similar franchise. Now I know Lucas isn't in charge anymore so hopefully LEGO will change it, but I'm really not sure if they can so that.
Star trek sets would be great! Definitely think a few sets could be made: starship bridges, medical Bays, engine rooms, and alien worlds especially (thinking a bit of how Lego is doing their new Space line). Could also certainly have a few waves of collectible minifigures. The article was way off the mark, as others have pointed out the main reason Lego doesnt have Star Trek is because another company has the license currently for making star trek building block sets. All the reasons listed in the article are non-issues.
Considering there is now "Numerous" series / films etc, covering numerous timelines /Era's covered in Star Trek, and at least 7 different "lead ships / crews" there would be more than enough variety of subjects to make a separate line". It would be great to see them done by Lego, however, Lego may link a "militaristic view" to Star Trek (yes I know Star Wars has a militaristic side) And Lego is very firm on not covering "Militaristic subjects" hence why Cobi does so well with it's military range.
I love Star Trek. Every version. There are not a ton of playset size sets ($15-30) range. Ship after ship after ship, yes, but most would need to be bigger sets. Maybe a diorama set or two could be produced but I think the lack of backup, playsets make it a tougher theme to introduce. They could do a complete midi-scale ship collection and a select few “UCS” style ships. Either way, I’m buying it all, twice, if Lego decides to make a Star Trek theme!
Yes, id be interested and have wondered why they haven’t done it for years. Maybe we could partition for a lego ideas set to be star trek based. That worked for doctor who.
Success of the LEGO movie franchise? That statement confirmed that I can’t feel confident about any statement made prior in the article. I want Star Trek sets and it’s been my answer every time people ask what theme I want Lego to make. Maybe I should stop wanting it because Lego has got what I don’t want down pat now
Short answer; YES, I would buy these 100%. No one can tell me that any version of the Enterprise, especially the original, wouldn't sell like crazy. And whoever said there aren't enough unique scenes to make sets of has never watched a single show. I'll name five w/out thinking: NCC-1701 bridge, the Guardian of Forever, the Q Courtroom, Ten-Forward, and Quark's Bar.
I would love to live long and prosper with Lego Star Trek sets! I have built a couple Rebrickable model bridges and shuttlecrafts which display well, wish there was more of a selection.
I wish more people would do videos on non-Lego brick brands like Mega, Cobi, BlueBrixx, CaDA. I feel like Lego has too much of a stronghold on the market and non-Lego officially licensed sets are just written off by fans. Also this "article" was just awful. Felt like someone who knew nothing about Lego or Star Trek just waffling for the whole thing
I can absolutely see Lego not being able to justify a wide variety of sets for mass market, but I can totally see a big limited release set in the IDEAS range like the Optimus Prime or James Bond Aston Martin marketed toward adult collectors. As much as I dream about a LEGO Battle of the Mutara Nebula set with Enterprise, Reliant, and brick built photon torpedoes, I think an IDEAS set is a more realistic expectation.
I would love to see Star Trek characters or brick heads even. I am sure most sets would be out of my budget but I would love Picard and Janeway figures. I could see some cool art sets made for the theme as well. I think the biggest deterrents to getting sets is Star wars competion and not many kids are into Star Trek at the moment.
I would love LEGO Star Trek. So many possibilities. Besides the vast ships, and characters and aliens for Minifigures, and places they could make set pieces with. I can totally see LEGO Tricorders, Phasers, episode specific objects, etc.. Not exactly the same thing. But, if Playmobil can make Star Trek, I think LEGO can certainly do so, too.
Star Trek may not be popular among younger builders, and I’m sure lego did some market research on this and decided it wasn’t worth it. However lego did back to the future and retro video games, so this is a similar opportunity. But there would be a ton of possibilities with different enterprise versions, reliant, excelsior, starbase, DS9, Klingon, romulan borg shuttle craft, etc
i suspect to make a trek theme sell profitabbly, would be forgo the younger age range sets, focus on the 12+ to adult, the 18+ sets for star wars are all aimed at collectors, that would be the nominal target market for a trek theme in my opinion.
was thinking yesterday when looking through the star wars set because of the sale. star trek set's would be amazing because unlike star wars ships that are a single collour or have 1 or 2 detailing collours, where as star trek ships (especially those not in the federation) tend to have a bit more collour. and that feel like a bit more fun to build and display. and let's be honest who wouldn't want a USC borg cube set? XD edit: maybe if good submissions get done through lago idea's, they might be persuaded to get a license.
I'm telling you I would buy every single Star Trek set from Lego, regardless of price. UCS sets of different Enterprise models, DS9, Voyger, Borg, BOP etc would be amazing
I agree that I would love to see Lego start producing Star Trek sets-think of all the different types of Enterprises. Also all the other ships over the years-Bird of Prey the different series it would be awesome.
In response to the second reason, you are correct that both Star Wars and Star Trek are not under the same company. Star Wars is Disney (it became that when they bought Lucasfilm). However, Star Trek is owned by Paramount. CBS, a division of Paramount, holds the rights to the TV series. Paramount's film studio holds the film rights. Overall though, I would LOVE to see sets based on Star Trek.
Greetings from the Derby City! Great episode, very good points you make. I'm trying to find the building instructions for a MOC "Serenity" ship from the show Firefly that are out there somewhere in the 'verse. The plans were published a while back, and for the life of me I can't find them anymore. The mini-fig scale model would be so GREAT with the LEGO Firefly crew I have collected. If you know anyone who can guide me in the right direction, please let me know. Keep up these excellent episodes.
Lego has also Marvel and DC. So the point with competition with another scifi-licence makes no sense for a Company, that has two major comic licences...
Star trek has always had a lot of really unique designs on their starships. And if they did release lego Star Trek chips, the only ones that I could see them actually making money at would be the u.C s sets.
I’d definitely buy ST sets. I watched all the shows religiously for years. Lego would definitely be creative enough to create nice looking sets. Wouldn’t it be cool to have a Borg ship or Deep Space 9 Station? Or even those flexible display figures of Klingon, Borg, Vulkan, even a tribble ;). (Ok not so flexible but would attract kids) There could be dioramas of different places they’ve landed. I wouldn’t just be broke, I’d be sleeping in the hallway as the rest of the apartment would be full of sets . - only thing that author is kind of right about is that ST isn’t really current. No shows or movies on the way, nothing to excite the shopping public. (And funny enough too much making peace in ST, instead of making war like in SW, how can you play peace?) Thanks for bringing up this topic! I’m behind you 100 %
I truly believe that a Star Trek set should be developed by Lego. If not, it should be another company that has quality brick building sets. If I had the opportunity, I would have my own Star Trek “LEGO” store to sell to make sure everyone could take advantage of this wonderful opportunity of this franchise in brick building form. I appreciate your commentary on the matter. “Live long and Prosper.”
Mini figs are probably one of the strongest areas for lego star trek, so many different races and characters across the universe alot more choice i believe than star wars. Obviously their are tons of space ships to choose from. I guess they would not make weapons due to them not being kid friendly although they do sell ninjago swords in foam so who knows. Instead of the helmet range they could have a bridge deck range like the dioramas sets. I do not see them making a star trek theme, but have hopes for them to one day make an ideas set based on star trek.
I would love Lego star trek sets. I mean, even if they started with 1 or 2 UCS sets at first to Guage sales and interest, then go from there. That would show how much the franchise would be worth it to them. But I doubt it'll happen, solely based on the licensing from Disney and most likely a contract around no direct competing Sci fi series licenses. Hence why they don't go after most other Sci fi franchises. Dune being the only recent exception. But like that, if they did one or two iconic ships to see how it goes, I'd pick them up in a heartbeat (as long as they were well done).
My two cents here, a few years ago I might have agreed with the "target audience" argument, not because it isn't family friendly, but because 90% of sets were aimed at kids and kids seem to prefer star wars. That is no longer the case, literally 50% of my local store is now 18+ sets, they have an entire "adults welcome" section. On top of that, Star trek has had a resurgence in recent years thanks to the newer movies and tv shows. I still think competition with Star Wars is the biggest hurdle here, but I think the chances of it happening are better now than they've ever been. You'll notice anything that had an existing lego theme prior to having a licensed version of that is gone now, i.e. star wars vs lego space, harry potter vs lego castle, indiana jones vs lego adventurers, etc. those simply won't come back while those licenses exist, and I think Star Trek will stay off the table for the same reason. The other big hurdle would be if another company currently has the licensing rights, which it seems BlueBrixx still might? in which case there's nothing to be done until their deal runs out. LEGO would have to actively pursue this for it to happen, and that seems unlikely. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney has some sort of clause in their own deal that keeps them from doing Star Trek. I don't know anything about IP licensing, but that seems like something Disney would do.
i think that if lego was to try STAR TREK they should work if the producers to do a lego animated STAR TREK series or movie and start with products that go along with it to test the waters a little.
My Mega Bloks Enterprise is still doing well without any discoloration and it's fantastic along with being damn cheap for 3K pieces at time of release. I should have gotten the Bridge set when I had the chance but didn't pull the trigger. I did buy a couple Bluebrixx sets, the Stargazer and Klingon D-7. They're okay for a midsize set, though the quality of the build of the D-7 doesn't make it whooshable with its wings falling off easily. Truth be told, general audiences aren't into Star Trek, the Bad Reboot movies and Secret Hideout TV Shows have tried to turn them into Star Wars. We already have Star Wars, why make Star Trek a pale imitation of that?
Star Trek stories aren’t as simple as the good/bad knights in space stories. They wouldn’t be as popular among children and teens. But adults would love it. Give me a collection of TOS stages to model the stories with.
The quality of the Bluebrixx Star Trek sets has improved from wave to wave. The large Enterprise D, one of the first Bluebrixx ST sets wasn‘t bad, but had some issues with stability and clutch power, but the large Enterprise E from the last wave is absolutely top notch, the prints are terrific, no stability issues, really good! It‘s the same with the large Voyager or the Defiant, they‘re excellent and the quality has almost reached Lego level at much lower prices. But does Bluebrixx even sell outside Europe? I‘m pretty sure Bluebrixx sets can’t be bought in the USA or Canada 🤔
Didn't know you were a Trek fan. I like Star Wars, but Star Trek is Definitely my favorite as well. I'd probably get the whole line. Star Trek is also popular among neuro-divergent for its exploration of being human or being not quite human in a human environment. I think many of those same people love Lego.
I'm seriously puzzled why any one would want Lego to butcher another IP, especially if there are very good sets with license and for reasonable prices available on the market
There's probably some language in the contract between LEGO and Disney/Lucasfilm that prevents LEGO from producing sets from competing franchises/intellectual properties. That would include Star Trek. While it would be welcome among Star Trek fans, it would be very strange to see Star Wars and Star Trek LEGO sets side by side on store shelves. Companies typically protect themselves from having their partners work with the competition and as different as the two are, Star Wars and Star Trek will forever be the other's primary competition. Star Wars got there first, so unless their relationship with LEGO ends, it is almost a certainty that there will never be any official Star Trek LEGO sets.
It's not so much that Trek is less family friendly as that it was never marketed for kids. But Lego has lines and sublines that are specifically intended for adult collectors. License fees? People understand they're paying that for Star Wars sets, so I don't see that as a hurdle. They might be worried about getting shelf space in retail, but I think there's a simple solution. Take a two-pronged approach - borrowing SW terminology, make midi-scale sets for $50-$80 that can go to regular brick-and-mortar stores, just one or two at a time to create awareness, and they can save larger (bordering on UCS-scale) sets that can be exclusives for their own stores or online. As long as they include an "Also Available" blurb in the smaller sets' instruction modules, people will find out. Heck, we have the internet now. The algorithm well let them know.
Love that bird of prey just brilliant ,as for the license fees its just another excuse for lego to use just like the many reasons they didnt do the new release Mercedes amg F! with the rear tyres and no pirelli markings on the tyres even though CaDA were able to do it with their alfa F1.
Great video, Star Trek rules. I would love to have Lego Star Trek sets but I think that Lego has too many other IP’s and its own themes like dreamzzz to start another franchise theme, one that would probably cost a lot to license, produce new moulds and market. I can live in hope though 😃
I had a double take too Alex! Paramount owns all of the film and tv rights for Star Trek. Really weird for this article to mix that up. I agree with a potential lack of desire when compared to Star Wars sets, but everything else I disagreed with. Give us an 18+ Star Trek set!
It is most likely license, started with Lucasfilm license not to produce any other science fiction franchises in the late 90´s. Disney probably similar or could cause problems with license renewals. Star Trek is very popular but check out lego ideas, haven´t seen any star trek submissions for over a decade, seems they block it on purpose.
I would love to see Lego get the Star Trek licence, as I like that as much as I do Star Wars. Also the Borg is made for being built in Lego :-) And I am sure if Lego got the rights they would be able to make a lot of the sets with the bricks they already have in their portfolio. I have some of the UCS Star Wars sets, and if Lego came out with the same type of sets for Star Trek I would get them for sure (even if I really don't have the space to display them).
I think there would be huge interest for Star Trek. I would even get a second job to pay for it. Here it is for Lego: Star Trek, the final frontier for Lego. They need a new Katra (Vulcan for Brain) in form of Lego. Common Lego, give us Star Trek, please. I think that the Lego group couldn’t make these fast enough or make enough, no matter how much the price. Live long and produce Star Trek.
Star Trek is a great franchise. unfortunately, it’s IP has already been acquired. If LEGO did have an interest on it, LEGO would have collaborated a long time ago. A missed opportunity for sure
Yeah I would love to see some LEGO Star Trek
I'd need to get a second job, so I guess be careful what you wish for, right?
Bluebrixx, they got the license. Way lower pieces, way better quality
As a layperson (and Lego-nerd), even I am disputing several of these points!
I would say Lego is about middle-class quality when it comes to the bricks. Most brands I´ve built so far are superior to Lego´s bricks.
Yup, I second this. This is what I've been reading over the course of YEARS.
Actually Decipher, Inc. bought the license to making a Star Trek TTRPG
I could honestly see one off Star Trek set kind of like they did Dune and Doctor Who sets. Would want to see more sets from those franchises too.
The design quality of Bluebrixx sets gets better from wave to wave. They are in the fifth wave of Star Trek now and those sets are significantly better then the early ones. They redesigned some of the first sets an they use prints wherever possible. I only miss nice minifigures.
Minifigures series for almost all classic Star Trek TV series have just been announced in the Bluebrixx shop.
Perfect.
I would be all over quality Star Trek Lego sets. For now I'm resigned to AFOL instructions to make that happen.
Good point. At least we can count on our fellow AFOLs for some sweet designs.
BlueBrixx got the Star Trek licence a couple of years ago and have been making sets since, they have smaller scale ships, large ones, art sets, shuttles, mini brickheads and even tricorders.
Not sure what the quality is like
It's not lego but the best we got atm
BlueBrixx also apparently got the RoboCop license recently, so that's pretty cool too.
Thought he said the Bird of Prey was from BlueBrixx
So maybe that could also be one of the reasons Lego don't do it
I think that is the only reason why there's not any Official LEGO® Star Trek Sets
I DO NOT BUY MANY SET, BUT IF THE STARTED MAKING STAR TREK AND EVEN STARGATE I WOULD START BUYING THEM ALL.
Bluebrixx from Germany currently has both licenses
Bluebrixx makes star trek and star gate! And they are printed, no stickers!
@@katschaccc some Star Trek sets do use transfers where printing multiple pieces would be too costly
I literally looked into this topic two days ago and then you posted this video. Crazy.
I would love to see Lego Star Trek Lego. The closest thing to it for Lego is the new city space sets where they use the crystals as the power source for their ships. But like you said if they made them it would probably take the rest of the money I have left to spend on it. Space 🚀😂
I think you're right on about those city SPACE sets. That might be the closest they come in awhile.
Hel yeah I would love have star trek legos
Bluebrixx currently holds the license , so at this point, this is a non-issue.
Yes and for Robocop and Stargate was well.
It's also quite likely Star Wars (Lucasfilm and, later, Disney) imposed a non-competition clause in their licensing agreement with Lego.
Good point.
I would love to see LEGO Star Trek sets, but my savings would evaporate overnight.
A Betty Boop set would be pretty sweet. Just sayin'.
@@alexnunes Betty boop Star Trek?
@@jasonsbricksin5 I'd take that too!
I put all this here as a message to Lego:
You put out official Star Trek sets, and they are Auto-Buy.
You got a lot of views and a ton of comments Alex. This shows that there is a lot of interest. I hope Lego listens to you.
I get it, Star Wars is a big deal. I guess we just have to wait our turn.
I would love to see, the crew of the NCC 1701-D (Picard, Riker etc.) as minifigures made by LEGO(R)!🖖
I can see Lego possibly doing a one off Star Trek set in their Icons line like the Dune Ornithopter and Optimus Prime.
i suspect to make a trek theme sell profitabbly, would be forgo the younger age range sets, focus on the 12+ to adult, the 18+ sets for star wars are all aimed at collectors, that would be the nominal target market for a trek theme in my opinion.
Would love to have Star Trek Lego. Ships and interiors would be cool
was thinking yesterday when looking through the star wars set because of the sale. star trek set's would be amazing because unlike star wars ships that are a single collour or have 1 or 2 detailing collours, where as star trek ships (especially those not in the federation) tend to have a bit more collour. and that feel like a bit more fun to build and display.
and let's be honest who wouldn't want a USC borg cube set? XD
edit: maybe if good submissions get done through lago idea's, they might be persuaded to get a license.
I'm telling you I would buy every single Star Trek set from Lego, regardless of price. UCS sets of different Enterprise models, DS9, Voyger, Borg, BOP etc would be amazing
You and me both!
We don’t need budget Star Wars Lego sets
Star Wars and Star Trek are almost completely different mediums, both take place in space but apart from that the similarities end there
I agree that I would love to see Lego start producing Star Trek sets-think of all the different types of Enterprises.
Good point!
(And funny enough too much making peace in ST, instead of making war like in SW, how can you play peace?)
Thanks for bringing up this topic!
I started out with Star Trek TOS, but Voyager is my favorite and I would love to get Voyager in Lego.
I am watching all ST seasons together with my 9-yo son! and he is loving it! 😍
Yes please. I'd love to see Star Trek space shuttles.
I have a moderately sized Lego Star Wars collection, but I would happily also build (pardon the pun) a Lego Star Trek collection.
Make it so!
I'd love to see Lego Star Trek sets! That article sounded more like excuses than real reasons. I love Star Wars too, but my heart lies with Star Trek.
Would love Lego to make Star Trek sets - especially the Ships and all the crew as MiniFigs !
I could see them making _Star Trek_ dioramas like they're doing for _Star Wars_
That Klingon ship is beautiful!
I also bought the enterprise. It’s next to my millennium falcon ucs. Star Trek needs Lego more than Lego needs ST.
I want this. They could do UCS and even midi scale ships.
Would love to see them, would give a nice addition to the space sets ;-)
Love that bird of prey just brilliant ,as for the license fees its just another excuse for lego to use just like the many reasons they didnt do the new release Mercedes amg F! with the rear tyres and no pirelli markings on the tyres even though CaDA were able to do it with their alfa F1.
Ohhhhhh.... I sure wish they would. I have-- still in a box-- that Enterprise you have to your right. Also... Stargate stuff.
Great video, Star Trek rules. I would love to have Lego Star Trek sets but I think that Lego has too many other IP’s and its own themes like dreamzzz to start another franchise theme, one that would probably cost a lot to license, produce new moulds and market. I can live in hope though 😃
If they did minifig scale TNG stuff I would be all over that. Gimme an Enterprise bridge interior playset and a shuttlecraft.
I had a double take too Alex! Paramount owns all of the film and tv rights for Star Trek. Really weird for this article to mix that up. I agree with a potential lack of desire when compared to Star Wars sets, but everything else I disagreed with. Give us an 18+ Star Trek set!
Yeah, that was strange for sure. Maybe they can do a one off ICONS set or something? Test the waters that way. Time will tell.
Yes, well said!!! And I also would have to get another job.
My guess is Star Trek would be too similar to Lego's own Space 'Futuron' brand with the colour coded outfits and the orbit logo.
Yes! That Futuron logo does look a lot like it.
Star Trek is a great franchise. unfortunately, it’s IP has already been acquired. If LEGO did have an interest on it, LEGO would have collaborated a long time ago. A missed opportunity for sure
It's a bummer. I don't think LEGO is too bummed about it though. I'll just have to be happy with the other brands for now.
@@alexnunes there might be lots of MOC designs but they’ll cost a lot for parts
I’d love an NX-01 Enterprise and a Defiant.
