18:28 Been thinking about this the other day. Even with my A7C II whose second native ISO is 3200, I can get such clean images in low light, a lack of light is rarely an issue. Basically not a thing anymore, let alone with a camera that like the A7SIII/FX3 and not C80. So we don’t have to light for TECHNICAL quality anymore - only for artistic quality. And I LOVE that.
11:30 I don't know how much it helps but on the original c70 handle I unscrewed the shockmount and put it upside down, made it much more compact and less annoying
Great convo guys. I just got my C80 yesterday and I’m blown away! The screen is definitely sturdier and reportedly 30% brighter, which I can confirm since I have the C70 too (for now and will sell). The FF spec sold me but now I can see how the triple ISO is also a stellar feature!
got mine.. used it on 3 different shoots so far.. loving it.. I get almost 5 hours with the bp-a60n battery which is insane.. I honestly don't feel like ill be rigging this for any Vmounts.. and you can get 6k 60 raw if youre using a ninja V+
What made you go for the C80 rather than the C400, after owning the R5C which has so many different codecs to shoot in? Also how is the RaW LT running on you LE??
I love the video/photo conversation!! I fell in love with video because of how much closer I can get, especially with the canon 3 times function that allows you to punch in. Sony FX3 has it as well, it’s a much smoother zoom in which is nice to.
The thing I’m super curious about is the sensor size. It’s a 3x2 sensor like a mirrorless camera right? Whereas the C70 was a 17x9 sensor. But this camera doesn’t record open gate right? Have you guys found any reason for the extra pixels on the top and bottom of a 16x9 recording frame?
I've been trying to work out the difference between photo and video on my R6 for a while. I can get them to match using a calibration image to make matching presets, even with a complex scene. There some differences which I think you can attribute to bit depth (on stretched images), resolution (4k and 6k equivalent) and noise reduction, but the images look pretty similar (which I think is a credit to Canon). I think there are some other things that separate the image - stopping down for example because how the image is compressed, noise reduction and downsampling becomes more obvious (looks a bit cheaper). Also I've noticed the grading thing too; I think part of it is that a moving image must look more real, so the natural contrast sometimes is more attractive than a hard hitting/high contrast look which might work against immersion.
I tried to hold out, but man, I couldn't do it. Canon pulled a good ol' gotcha and said no third party lenses, so Sony won my heart for now, since Sigma lenses are fantastic for a LOT less. Plus Sony is a lot lighter, especially when rigged out a bit.
@@benjamin.kelley This camera is very tempting! same here Sony FX3 is much lighter and really inspires me to go on walks and film for fun, I never felt like that with the C70 because of size. Be patient my friend Sony has to have an FX6 II or FX3 ii coming down the line and will have all the cool AI autofocus and most likely 3 base ISO… All I want for Christmas lol
Does the C80 have the soft look like the C70? I actually loved the natural softness from the c70. I was one of the canon fanboys that got tired of waiting and switched to sony fx3 which is nice and compact but the C80 though😅
it does, there are test footage & inside looks of the C80, honestly Canon in general has that warm, soft filmic look in general. Even the RC 5 has the feel to it as well bc of the sensor.
@@luis.hermosillo yah i just see these things as tools for my work, like i currently have the Lumix S5 II but will get the C80 for its specific look for particular projects. Both amazing & great at what they do in their own right. But shits expensive out here so i also get it lol
@@j.zuberi Bro for real, I started with 3 RED Komodos and realized the workflow made no sense for my solo run n gun style, so I switched to Dual C70’s and loved everything about them but the size, I wish I could fit 2 in a backpack and it started getting annoying at weddings, so I switched to FX3’s and I loved how compact they are. I rock 3 FX3’s with 24-70s and 70-200 with 2 peak design tripods and it all fits in a Peter Mckinon 25L backpack with all my sound gear too. Its super light and compact. I just miss the Canon Look and the internal NDs, thats really the only reason why Im peeping the C80. Im debating selling one FX3 with a 24-70 to snag the C80 but I fear sony will release the FX3 II or FX6 II and ill regret it since im so invested in sony now. Darn youtube always tempting us!!!
Let Sony FX3 II have Internal ND and SDI output and forget about canon, anyways without IBIS it is disgusting for me, that's why I won't jump for fx6 and stick to fx3

Camera looks legit!
I just got the 24-105 2.8 guys your going to love love that on the c80
15:51 Steven going through his head how much his Sony gear is worth and how he can get back into Canon. That’s what this look is.

I hope the bright tangerine cage one I have on
my c70 works
Yes 1000000% to shooting stils in log! I have thought the same thing so many times🤣
Yes I would love that!
Please get Andrew T Kerns, Froknows photo, and Samuel Elkins on the podcast!
could you please tell me about the cooling fan? do you use the automatic mode? how loud is it when working? i don't like mine very much yet...
What's the mic on the camera?

SD cards make it unusable
