Around the 17:40 mark, quantifying the 1% better each day is what I want to do. Being more strategic in the day to day. Hopefully it will bring clarity to growth, rather than an emotional “does it feel like I grew” mindset.
Being a jack of all trades is an awesome superpower! I’m into video and motion, and I’m also curious about coding. By combining my passions, I can create a unique skill set that sets me apart in my career.
Welp, this conversation hit me between the eyes. This comment will be a doozy but it’s the real stuff: Though ideologically identical, I find myself in the reverse situation from Eric when it comes to daily work. I’ve been coding primarily from home with my wife and three children nearby for ~5 years. It’s been long enough that I see the need to branch out into a separate space for a couple of focused days a week. Though I hope to never trade three meals a day with them…it’s magical. I so appreciate Steven‘s breakdown of using what you know from various aspects of life to build new opportunities. Considering the past is so powerful - I had a camera in my hand when I was five and my only formal training is in multimedia production. That’s the path I’m taking to branch off in parallel with software development. Daily consistency (with a specific goal in mind) is totally the answer. Focused work at home when the doors are closed, fully present for family when the doors are open, hustle in the off-hours to build something new. The concepts of “laying bricks” added to the idea of mixing existing skillsets is so solid. Y’all are sitting on a gold mine there. That should be a book or another dozen episodes of another show. Keep up the good work! Thanks for being good examples of these concepts, gents. 🎩
