    Hello Dr.Anne, I remember an old vid of yours talking about the E.LAUDER ANR...I agree with you, it is dear but to me the best serum ever made.I' ve been using it for more than 20 something years, and Im 45 now...but just like sunblock or trétnoine , it's not gonna work overnight....but your skin will thank you in 20 years time from now. see.u

      Yes, I have an old video about this serum, and it seems to be a really controversial topic - I don't think I have ever had so much hate from people telling me it isn't worth the money, but at the same time so many people agreeing wholeheartedly. Each to their own I guess!

    I would say it would cost c. €140 to buy everything I use. Some products last much longer than others. I have been using No 7 retinol since September and the tube isn’t going to be empty any time soon. The most expensive product I use, relative to how long it lasts, would be Innisfree Green Tea Probiotics cream because it is €20 and lasts less than 2 months

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is true, it is not an exact calculation, some products would have to be repurchased repeatedly, others like the shampoo would last a whole year...

    • @moose8762
      @moose8762 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoctorAnne I have considered purchasing olaplex since I have straw like hair and K18 seems more expensive and less promising. But I am currently focusing on dual drug therapy. My hair still sheds a bit when my health declines. I just started taking n-acetyl cysteine because I don’t know what else to do about currently clinically unexplained symptoms.
      I have been getting into audiobooks this year and it is a so much better way of reading when you are restless. An audible subscription gives access to a lot a classics, so I have already listened to Sense & Sensibility and Mansfield Park and have started Emma. It is my brother’s account and he had bought “when the body says no” by Gabor Mate, so I listened to that also. I consider a lot of it fluff because many points are conjectures based on anecdotes but my body definitely says “no” to medical school

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@moose8762 I never got into audio books but my husband loves them for his commute to work.
      And I purchased K18 to compare, but haven't tried it so far.
      I am sorry to hear that medical school still doesn't seem to work for you, what are you going to do about that?

    • @moose8762
      @moose8762 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoctorAnne I don’t feel that I have many options other than to keep doing medical school and trying to handle my own problems. I believe a medical department is the last people you want to have thinking you have health problems that they could conjecture are due to stress. So, I have to work at the same pace as everyone else while feeling like I have the flu most of the time.
      I have been doing a lot to attempt to manage my health. I have been eating mostly whole-food plant based. Taking escitalopram, which did coincide with a reduction in my foot pain. I sleep for at least 8 hours, which isn’t enough for me to feel rested. I do generally stretch daily but currently for much less time than before Christmas. The NAC is the most recent addition.
      Dr Gabor Mate cites a study in his book, I don’t know the reference because it was an audiobook, about medical students who experience chronic stress. And 90% of chronically stressed medical students became ill (or committed suicide) later in life (on follow up) and it was worse for those who were isolated. The main benefit I have gained from the book is thinking about the mind, emotions, and thoughts are physiological - chemical, hormonal, and electrical impulses. I have always opposed the separation of mind and body but more than that the mind is a part of the body and not limited to the brain. Of course, disordered brain function could lead to physical illness - even if not to the extent that Gabor Mate suggests - through the psycho neuro immunological/endocrine axis.
      People in medicine don’t take emotional wounds and scars seriously. If anything they assume trauma makes you more capable of handling stress. Which is ironic, since it is the opposite. Of anyone, doctors should understand that scar tissue is weaker than healthy tissue. Instead of getting some chest pain when stressed, you get a cardiac tamponade.
      One of my classmates is doing a project on medical students attitudes towards adjuvant therapies and the consensus seems to be that throughout training and with contact with consultants, student opinions of adjuvant therapies become more negative. Meanwhile, 50% of SLE patients report fatigue as their most debilitating symptom and it is not even taken into consideration in the definition of remission medically.
      I used to take to heart the general consensus of the people around me that if you can’t physically/psychologically handle the stress then you shouldn’t be here. But now I am like “your hospitals are extremely understaffed and the university hospital lost dozens of consultants to the private hospital, so maybe you should take what you can get”

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@moose8762 I feel like there is a shift in the way trauma and stress are perceived in the workplace in medicine, but it is a painfully slow one, too slow for the change to fully come into fruition during my working days for sure.
      Still, I am not a fan of pushing through for the sake of pushing through when one learns early on that it is detrimental to ones health.

    Doctor Anne, Have you done any research on the effects of silicone on the hair?
    I have read that silicone will eventually destroy the hair. Olaplex is full of silicones.
    There´s a company in France called Leonor Greyl. Their products are fabulous for
    the hair, without the silicone. I have fine hair. Their Bamboo shampoo is my favorite.
    You are 100% over target on the Murad Retinol Youth eye cream. I had used
    Murad eye products for the past twenty years, I am in my mid sixties, and I don´t
    have a single wrinkle under my eyes. I will not live without it.
    There´s also a toner from a company called Biologique Recherche P50 that I
    much prefer over the Paulaś Choice BHA. Itś truly fantastic, but pricier.

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silicones are a very misunderstood class of ingredients in my opinion. There are a ton of different ones and they are amazing for damaged hair to make combing easier and prevent breakage, which is why I swear by them. Michelle from LabMuffinBeuaty has a great video on that topic.
      I understand that for very fine hair, some silicones can be heavy, and if you find products without them work better for you, then that is great. But they do not destroy the hair, that is a myth.
      I am glad you enjoy the Murad eye cream as much, I don't feel it gets much love online. Which other products have you tried that you would recommend?
      And for Biologique Recherche - it is another one of these holy grail products that I have yet to try, although I am a little hesitant as it contains more acids than just Salicylic Acid and my skin doesn't react too well to that paired with my Tretinoin.

    I found the Inkey List oat cleanser difficult to remove. I love The Ordinary cleansing balm. It cleanses and washes off easily. I also love the Inkey List caffeine eye cream. I've used it for several years. I helps with morning puffy eyes. And I'm also an Olaplex fan. I use the shampoo, conditioner and No. 6 styling cream. It doesn't work for styling my hair, but it's great for taming frizz.

    • @DoctorAnne

      A lot of people said that about the cleanser, but I never had this problem. The one from The Ordinary is in my stash waiting to be tried right now, I am really looking forward to using it.
      No. 6 seems to leave my hair crunchy, which is why I am not the biggest fan. Have you experienced that?
