just want to say thank you for your channel! power steering went out while taking my dog to the vet. found this vid and was able to pull up to an oreillys and to test the fuse and luckily they had a replacement and was back on the road 😅.
I have a 2015 EcoDiesel RAM 1500 (same as this truck except the year). My truck has the same issue with the EPS. I took it to the dealership and they want to replace the whole power steering rack ($4000). I don’t know if the dealership checked the fuses. This video could save me a lot of money and time. Most other videos show how to replace the power steering rack. This may not always be necessary, but the bottom line is to make money not to save money for the customer. This is why dealerships have a bad reputation. Thank you for showing us an honest and easy to understand video on this repair.
Wow, brought mine into dealer they think it’s power steering rack before even looking into it and quoted me 6800$ to fix. I’m paying the 250$ they want to diagnose then will go from there
When I got my new 25 RAM 1500 Laramie, was told to never jump start another car. Best to invest in a good power pack and that's what I did. Good thing to have in any car.
OMG!!!!!😮❤🎉😮 Thank you sooo much!! I was quoted $4k from the dealership and prayed and watched your video. Can I tell you that the people who put my battery on didn't even tighten the electronic component part on the battery so it was bounced around and lose contact off and on. I tightened them and now my truck is fixed? 😮🤯 I also like your patience and you're an excellent teacher! So logical and nice paced. I dont know anything about vehicle mechanics or cars maintenance anything and made me feel like a superwoman!
Thank you so much for this…been a maintainer on BFV’s in the Army for 11+ years now and this diag video came in clutch. Verified my fault and it’s my 125A fuse that’s blown. No power going to that stud at all. Thank you Fluke and a special thanks to K Diagnostics!
Thank you, I own a car repair shop and I own a Dodge Ram 1500, 2015 model, and I have the same problem. Today I will check the same fuse. Thank you again, you deserve it. With my best regards to you.
Thank you very much for your knowledge on the electrical power steering system for my 2016 ram dodge eco diesel truck .I was doing some work on my truck and accidentally shorted a tool on the battery and saw a spark by the battery terminal , after the repair i notice the steering was hard to turn , so next day i viewed your u tube channel and started trouble shooting as you did, my first test was using my test light and notice there was no power at the 125 amps battery fuse, i removed it and notice the bridge on the back of the fuse was burned out .I went to the dodge dealer purchase a new one for about 15 dollars, installed it and every thing was good as new .Thank you ,keep up the good work .
I just did the same thing tonight, accidentally shorted a ratchet on the battery and saw a spark at the terminal. Now I have no power steering and low battery voltage 😅
yep. Working through an issue on a '13 (looks to be an issue in the R&P itself this time), but dealers just automatically default to needing new R&P. $2000+ for parts alone.
Thank you, my friend. I had the same exact problem with my truck. I followed your instructions and all is good. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this thoughtful video.
Great video. You saved me a bunch of money. My Dodge Darts steering was stiff with all the warnings. Checked all the fuses etc. but completely forgot about the 70 amp in line fuse on the pos cable. Tightened a loose connection and problem solved. Many thanks. 😊
It was my pleasure, unfortunately it did not solve the problem. I did change the fuse on my 2013 RAM Sport 5.7 HEMI, but the steering problem persist. I am not a mechanic, so when I saw the complexity to change the rack & pinion, it seems that I am going use a professional. But is so expensive, the part is said to be between $2,000 to $2,800 and that does not include labor, it us big concern. But regardless I did learn from your video, so Muchas Gracias once more. Have a great day.
Hola my Friend, Yes I did, unfortunately It was to much of a big job for my mechanical skills so I used the services of a local RAM dealership due that the mechanics of the area where busy and where basically quoting the same amount than dealer and did not include two year total replacement warranty that the dealer offered. I paid $2809.00 and the dealer recommended to change ball joints and other parts, totaling $6,800. So I just did the and pinion replacements and alignment. It came out perfect but a sense of frustration and distrust of the future of the RAM came upon me so I sold it after a week, providing a total disclosure of everything I had repaired during the course of 3 years of ownership. Since I kept in beautiful conditions it was fast and easy to sell. I purchased only two weeks ago a 2022 Frontier Pro 4X with 13,800 miles and still under warranty. I believe that vehicles manufacturers should be held accountable for frequent repeatable failures or broken parts that should last the lifetime of the vehicle, under conditions usage. Thank you for asking and sorry If I shared more info than requested. Have a. great day, Tony from Puerto Rico. Saludos
Bless Thoroughly enjoyed this educational video. You're going over things slowly & repeatedly is like going to a tech school. Thanks 😊 from Northern California
Very nice diagnostics but you probably should have disconnected the ground before replacing the fuse. This can also happen when you attempt to boost with another vehicle and place the positive booster cable clamp on either of the fused posts rather than the main post of the battery. It's not necessarily caused by reverse polarity. When the vehicle being boosted starts the draw exceeds the rating of the fuse causing it to blow normally preventing components from being ruined by excessive current, in this case current would flow toward the boosted vehicle but still overloads the fuse causing it to blow. Always boost from the main + battery post. Great video brother.
Thank you so much I started following what you were doing in the video and then realized the bolt near my fuse wasn't tight. It's weird that is what sent my battery and power steering light on.
From Puerto Rico, I am very pleased and thankful for your easy to follow explanation and detailed enlightening information. I subscribed so I can continue learning on topics related to my 2013 RAM Sport. Muchas Gracias

Great video, learned a lot from a master mechanic. I have a new Ram and the service power steering light came on after 126 miles but the steering is fine, no loss of power assist (yet). Still under warrenty so I will take it to the dealer. This video gives me a much better understanding of how the system works. I am hoping it is just an ECM or EPS module glitch. Thanks so much for the video.
I need to buy a great scan tool. I have been working on cars for far too long to stop because of the technology in cars now a days. Easy money with the right tools.
great job only difference when i diag if i know someone has tried to jumpstart a vehicle i always go to fuses first but that would be a short video and wouldn't be very good teaching tool for others
Hello thank you for this video I have a 2013 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Liter Hemi and my truck doesn’t have this 125A fuse on battery terminal it instead has 180/120 amp fuse block attached to it would this be the same as the Eco Diesel you worked on?

I did some research and discovered the FL04 fuse 100A which powers the Pump but since there is power going to the pump um confused. Its like something stuck in closed or so! Kindly advice'

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Thanks for your quick response! They must connected the positive jumper cable on the power steering fuse stud, at the battery positive terminal, that what cause the fuse to blow, because the starter motor use more than 125 amp to operate, like my 4 cylinder engine starter use up to 218 amp from the battery, so if they jumped a big engine car, well you know how much amps will be definitely more than 125 amp, never use jumper cable on newer vehicles if you don't know what you doing.

I have a 2017 jeep grand cherokee 3.6 with 4x4 can my vehicle possibly have the same problems. Because when the battery cable is unconnected and then reconnected the eps will work for a short moment and then it goes back stiff

I love my 2020 Rebel. Unfortunately I think Im gonna have to sell it. I keep on getting this “power steering unavailable” issue message that the dealer can’t figure it out and its costing me too much money 💵
I have a 2020 RAM 1500 Rebel thats been giving me the same Power Steering Unavailable message. The problem is that it doesn’t have that battery fuse there. Anyone has any idea where the fuse he replaced here is located on the 2020 models? Thank you🙏🏻
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair I did and I could not locate that big fuse; only the 10amp fuse, but that one is working. I also took it to a mechanic, but they couldn’t find the issue. Please can you send Wiring Diagrams for dodge ram 2016 1500 v8 5.7 hemt I have wiring problem at the transmission
@@salehfarhwd7154 You can get wiring at Mitchell pro demand.com
I have a 2017 jeep grand cherokee 3.6 with 4x4 can my vehicle possibly have the same problems. Because when the battery cable is unconnected and then reconnected the eps will work for a short moment and then it goes back stiff
Jeremiah Lucas it sounds like you have an EPS electric motor problem. or a wiring issue, I recommend you take it to a pro mechanic who can diagnose it for you!
Thank you so much
So if it's the EPS electric motor will I need the whole rack and pinion or can I replace that part please help I don't know what to do at this point
Pls how do you get wiring diagram for every cars that you work on from your scan tool?
Kingsley Kafui I get my wiring diagrams from mitchel pro demand! and the scan tool has a service info tab build into it, as long as I can link up my account to it!

Was anyone else expecting that tiny 16 gauge jumper wire to go up in smoke trying to feed the 125a circuit once he started cranking the steering wheel? 😄
@salvatoregiovanni8967 Lol
I have this problem with my ram 1500 but there is a horrible grinding sound if you try too turn it then shows the service power steering
Jayden Merriman your electric motor for the electric power steering could be going bad!
Your eps has water inside it, the damage has already done unfortunately you have to replace all the rack and pinion, good luck.
ماشاءالله❤❤ بالعافيه
@MohammadNadeem-nq5gc Thank you!
Ive been driving mine without my EPS and the blinking light on for over 3 years. It's not that hard to turn especially when I'm use to it now 😂 I'm going to try this because I refuse to pay 4k for a new rack and pinion I have a 2013 ram 1500
@meganm3270 Lol!!
What’s the name of the fuse you needed?
@BrandonMontford-zk3wh I believe it's called MAXI fuse
I love my 2020 Rebel. Unfortunately I think Im gonna have to sell it. I keep on getting this “power steering unavailable” issue message that the dealer can’t figure it out and its costing me too much money 💵
@Alonzo01 I'm sorry to hear that!
Great 👍🌷🌷
Aymen Mohamed Thank you!
I have a 2016 tradesman 3.6 .. I change that fuse still won’t work ??? And dodge of my town won’t reset the power steering from their computer
Please help me
@lueskywalker7665 you have to have the electric motor of the electric power steering system tested, the motor is probably failing!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair it was I just bought the rack and pinion for 1500 all together so hopefully that will solved the problem
@@lueskywalker7665 ok! Good Luck!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Ty I hope that fix all my problems..
Well done
@michaelbilbrey8284 Thank you!
I have a 2015 Dodge ram Eco diesel power steering suddenly stopped today for no reason it’s hard as hell to turn
@TIMKOLAWNCARE check your fuses
I have a 2020 RAM 1500 Rebel thats been giving me the same Power Steering Unavailable message. The problem is that it doesn’t have that battery fuse there. Anyone has any idea where the fuse he replaced here is located on the 2020 models? Thank you🙏🏻
@Alonzo1121 did you check all your fuses under the hood?
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair I did and I could not locate that big fuse; only the 10amp fuse, but that one is working. I also took it to a mechanic, but they couldn’t find the issue. Before it would only show up a few times, but now it seems to be all the times because the message pops up every-time I start it. I want to try everything I can before I take it to the dealer, and spend all that 💰.
Thank you
Great help thank you
