    Made in China = you get exactly what you pay for. They make everything, from high quality to low ones. The reason why the reputation is poor is because many people choose to buy the cheap products, but expect high end quality. Some people are just cheap and greedy to be honest.

      Also, I shouldn't have to teach a Chinese person this, but to the best of my understanding, China only has 4 tiers.
      • Tier 1 -cities directly controlled by central government
      • Tier 2 - provincial capital cities and sub-provincial capital cities
      • Tier 3 - prefecture capital cities

      China doesn't have cheap labor anymore. Things are no longer made there because it's cheap. This perception is severely outdated. China's manufacturing labor cost is the highest among all Asian developing nations. Manufacturing wages in China is 40 percent higher than Mexico, and already at the 70% level of weaker Eurozone countries like Portugal. It's also more expensive than all Latin American nations except for Chile. There are PLENTY of countries with cheaper labor than China. Cheap labor isn't the reason why things are made in China anymore. It's the whole supply chain, logistics, discipline, hard working workers, skilled labor, built up infrastructure like stable electricity, water supply, roads, bridges, ports etc that keeps manufacturing in China. Also, China isn't just doing the "last step" anymore. That's true maybe 5 years ago, not anymore. "Last steps" are now being done in India or Vietnam. Most parts are made in China. The cutting edge high tech stuff are usually made by Japanese, Korean, European and the American companies, who also manufacture their stuff in China except for some more important parts.

      @spaghetttii 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      What you said is true but that’s not even what I’m talking about. I’m simply reenforcing the fact how marketing can manipulate people.
      The idea of made in China products are low quality is more of a stereotype. China does have copycats to literally everything famous/high end. Which will lead people think it’s “low” quality simply because it’s making trademarked products for cheap.

    8:33 There's a translation omission:
    "China wants negotiation, not war."
    A more accurate translation would be:
    "We want to negotiate, but we are not afraid to fight back."

      This is such a stupid comment and it's ridiculously untrue. Asian Boss, while being a great platform for allowing people from different cultures to speak, is perhaps not that great at speaking with people from different socioeconomic issues. Which is why this interview was held Shanghai, the best city in all of China where people are generally much better off and much better educated, as opposed to a place like Lanzhou

    • @jingli7206
      @jingli7206 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      He's right, dude. The background of the interview looks like Nanjing road (or somewhere nearby) where sounds like time square for the US. Lanzhou is at least 50 years behind. But most cities are in the middle. And even inside Lanzhou, you may meet people with a good point of view, only the chance is lower.

    • @caspermac
      @caspermac 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      China is also not known for intelligence. That's Japan and South Korea. In fact, mainland China held a dedicated campaign against smart people and exiled people that were dangerously smart to Taiwan. Which is why, in terms of intelligence among native Chinese speakers, mainland China is deadlast. After Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong

    • @caspermac
      @caspermac 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      At Jing Li, perhaps not every place is like Lanzhou. There are nice places like Chengdu, Suzhou, Dalian, and Shenzhen but these places are comparatively RATHER exceptional. I have many close friends from there, but getting past the ccp's brainwashing is often a big barrier.

Korea went through the same thing. But look at all of them today, they make amazing quality products. China has to go through the same phase. Chinese people make products like smartphones, computers, appliances, electronics, clothing, sneakers, etc cheaply so inflation in other countries is kept to minimum, and the cost of living is lower than it should be. Think of the millions of dollars people in other countries have saved on living expenses over the years, thanks to affordable Chinese goods. Money saved that can then be spent on other things like cars, houses, getting married or school fees, college fees, doctors fees, etc.

    Chinese products are good it's just that one has to pay according to the quality one wants. If anyone wants a cheap pen they have to pay accordingly. If a higher quality one is desired, then more should be paid. My grandfather had a pen made in China whose ink lasted up to 15 years ! It was a little highly priced but was really worth it.

    • @theuglykwan
      @theuglykwan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      That's the thing. It is why domestic Chinese seem to have a more favourable attitude towards Made in China.
      Foreign companies buy from China because of price point so they tend to maximise profit and buy the cheapest and you get what you pay for. If they pay a higher price point then quality will be better but their profits will be lower. If they were to pay more then it might not really make financial sense to buy from China either.
      So foreigners come into contact with a disproportionate amount of poor quality products. They also seem to forget some of their famous brands with high quality are also Made in China. The difference is those companies have good quality control on the ground to make sure there is no shortcuts.

      I couldn't agree more the mindset for business is unparallel in China. The Chinese always have a tendency to conduct business wisely and as well as openly with foreigners, as history shows and
      repeats itself :). They are not afraid of what people would say or criticize about their decisions, knowing that they are pretty sure of what they're doing is best.

      One problem with manufacturing in China that they have a get money now mentality. I commissioned a production run and many factory try to skimp on quality on the 1st run. • @chengezhussaini1464
      @chengezhussaini1464 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Developing business relationships can be a learning process as well. If we look at Huawei, they have developed trade relations with upto 140 countries world wide and one of the ultimate goals for them is to sell their products in the US market, even though the US (or I don't know exactly who) tries to avoid it from
      from being imported and competing with apple's iphone, which dominates the US market for the most part. So the work is still ongoing, and I believe that other major businesses in manufacturing from China can learn from Huawei one way or another some day.

      Chengez Hussaini there's some slight disagreement in Made in China here in Downtown L.A. Some or most of the products sold in certain stores still have and sell outdated products that they have kept, or the vendors in China has kept in lock for years,, and just recently started selling the items. Which in time, the item degrades and becomes cheap. Not in money terms, but in the dexterity of the product. It is basically, buyer beware

      You should learn Mandarin and history of China. If not, no matter how smart u are, you cannot understand China well. Trust me, learning Mandarin will open up your horizons better because the culture is entirely different from the West. China understands America better because they are more exposed to the West. Just look at the influx of mainland Chinese studying in America and compared the US students in China.

    • @cleve21ful
      @cleve21ful 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should learn English, not because of your grammar, but because of the lack of your comprehension ability. Go re-read my comment. Did I ever imply that I understood China? You get over sensitive like those Indians. LMAO!
      By the way, learning Mandarin won't really help me understand your culture. That's why I don't trust you! A language is not a culture, but a small part of culture. Learning history or going to China would help, but I've already done that.
      I hope you realize that mainland Chinese students studying in America is not to understand America. They study to get that "paper" from a renowed school or to take new ideas back to China. Besides, they live within their own circles of other mainlanders, and most of them look down on Chinese-Americans. Seriously, that's quite disturbing.

But apparently some US artists bring too much politics to their works, that just shows how seriously the US society domestically divided is. "I mean most Americans are so self-centered that they lack of the understanding and acknowledge of other countries culturally, politically and socially."
      This is probably the most ignorant thing many people say about Americans. It couldn't be further from the truth considering we adopt so much from other places. Just look around in America lol.
      Saying that is simply a sign of inferiority complex in people. It's not us, it's you. Step your game up, don't play the victim, and don't try to demonize people for being in a place where they have more opportunity and resources to do better. Americans have always been a step ahead because we never fall into those traps and have the freedom to pursue whatever we want.
      It really doesn't matter that manufacturing is mainly done in China and Southeast Asia now. Rising costs of manufacturing in the USA made it so that we weren't in that game a while ago. However, we found a new game we were better than everyone else at and that is software. We are always a step ahead and as long as we don't strip freedom from people to innovate and market we always will be.

      Chinese workers manufacture cheap goods like smartphones, computers, appliances, electronics, sneakers, clothing, etc, so that the cost of living in other countries is kept lower than it should be. Think of the millions of dollars people in other countries have saved on living expenses over the years thanks to affordable Chinese goods. Money saved that can then be spent on finer things like cars, houses, getting married or on things like school fees, college tuition, doctor's bills.

      kaal Bhairav
      There may be guarantee. It depends on the circumstances. About 20 years ago I bought a portable vcd player. It melted and I took it back to the retailer in Hong Kong which gave me a refund. So if it is sold by a reputable retailer then there likely will be gurantees and warranty even if the item is made in china. Do you think iphones would be this popular without warranties?
      If I buy something on ebay or aliexpress there is buyer protection which is heavily skewed in favour of the buyer.
      I would hesitate on some bigger purchases but for low end items I can accept that the dirt cheap price and no warranty comes with the territory, I don't have any expectation they will last forever.

    Poor quality is a normal phase of a country in development, yes China is a the beginning of its development or at the middle of it, and in early years they copied a lot and make poor quality stuff, but now what the world don't want to see is that they are changing and they are changing fast, look for example at smartphone industries, "they are making cheaper and better devices than anyone else" by the verge a big tech American channel.
    If you ask your parents or grandparents, Japan has followed the same path, every Japanese brand did copies of American brand and they were poor quality, my father when he received Japanese products didn't seem happy about it 40 years ago, but now it is well known that Japanese good are high end. And it will surely be the same for Chinese goods, listen your children will live in a world where made in China will mean good quality.

    I'll agree, after living in China, that some local products are of good quality but it depends on the brand. Some Chinese items are still cheap and poorly managed. But living outside of China, mostly the cheap products are sold and commonly found. So based on where you're located some resources and products may not be accessible to you. Your perception of something may be restricted to certain stereotypes.

      Boozer bcoz your importers at home have done a great job in quality control. I know some manufacturers in Zhejiang, China. They once complained to me that American clients are picky, they came to China to examine their products. You see, manufacturers make stuff to meet standards provided by clients. If you think 5 good product out of 10 is acceptable (as a side note, everything comes with pass/fail rate, no one tells manufacturers to do it as better as possible, we are not running a research lab), why would we make all of them good? Business is about profits after all. Some clients order stuff for 5 dollar each and sell back home for 10 times higher. Who is doing evil here? Apple products are made in China as well, they are not shitty because Apple built a lab in China to examine prototypes made by Chinese manufacturers. I am glad you find Chinese product good in US, thanks to your qc, products in US should be good no matter who made them.

    lol most of the household products Americans buy are "Made in China." I think the only real bias people have against Chinese imports is to Chinese food and Cell Phones. Honestly, Chinese products are often just as good as American. I try to buy American, but it's often more expensive, and not necessarily better quality. Quality is most important for me

      People all over the world have professed their love of Chinese food and in virtually every major city in the world there is usually a "Chinatown" where people can go enjoy Chinese cuisine. If you like meat, there is Peking Duck. If you want something light, there is Dim Sum. If you like rice, there is Fried Rice. If you like noodles, there is Chow Mein. If you like spicy food, there is Mapo Tofu. If you're in a rush and want something portable and filling, there is Pork Buns. If you like seafood, then Chinese people love seafood too.
      China has such a rich culture of food, so there is bound to be something to suit everyone's tastes out there.

      神州 Shenzhou it's not actual taste of food, it's the actual use of "foreign" animals in food that has caused mistrust in Chinese restaurants. People still largely eat Chinese (obviously), but there's a suspicion that they put dogs/cats/rats/raccoons/possum in the food there may be some people who eat raccoons or possums, but most Americans don't eat critters or cats and dogs. Because so many restaurants have gotten in trouble for using rats for their food, Chinese food is seen as lower quality. Some places call it "the broke man's food," because it's cheap and you get a lot in portions. Chinese products like rice, noodles, and some seasonings are quite common and sometimes cheap in the US. It all just depends. Personally I love Chinese food. I can't eat it most times, but I love it. I don't think the tarriffs will last. Trump has but 2 years left in the white house. Like the guy said, we're two leading superpowers in the world , we should be coming together.

    Chinese production has not been poor for at least well over 10 years. The stigma for Chinese made products only just started to dissolve due to the quality control matching their production.
    It didn't matter is 49 products were functioning just fine if the 50th malfunctioned. Now China has really upped their quality control and a lot of Chinese brands are gaining a lot of traction. Especially in Europe. The biggest brands that come to mind is DJI and Huawei.
    With the revitalization of the Silk trade roads and Chinese very smart business partnerships with other asian and european countries they stand to become a dominant superpower in trading that the US simply can not compete with long term.

    Chinese brands, some of them have really good value and quality an example are the chips they make or the phones they make but as what the guy said there's a clear evidence that poor quality products arrive in foreign markets.

    I’ve heard Chinese people tend to avoid domestic (Chinese) cars. So I’d like to see how Chinese people really feel about Chinese made cars and knock-offs of foreign cars made in China. Good work as usual Asian Boss 👍

    • @easternstrategist5276
      @easternstrategist5276 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Most of the foreign cars are made in China. You're talking about the brand difference. Domestic car brands are either for high level or low level but middle level. So they are either very cheap for low-income people or very expensive that only official and people with social staus can use it, such as Hong Qi.

      They aren't really ahead of the game. If the game is Tesla or even the Bolt then they are still playing catch up. Out of the crop of Chinese funded startups, I'd say only NIO actually looks enticing. Faraday Future is a shit show. Byton and SF Motors concepts were boring. NIO only looks good because they're dividing the engineering of the subsystems between countries that historically have a lot of talent in those areas... Body structure in Germany, autonomous driving assist software in Silicon Valley, and electronics in China. It's a pretty good plan.

      I thought most cars bought in China are also made in China because the taxes/tariffs to buy a foreign made car are so expensive. BYD is also a Chinese company that sells lots of cars/buses.

    To be honest when I see the label made in China, I don’t think poor quality, I usually wonder how the workers were treated, if they are paid enough and if the working environment is safe. I also usually wonder how eco friendly the product is. It would have been interesting to hear more about Chinese views on these topics, not on the poor quality.
