Fakes have become pervasive on Ebay and Amazon, sadly. I took my wife's bike to a nike shop with my own "Shimano" 11 speed chain. The mechanics struggled with my chain. Finally, they decided to try one of theirs. It worked and I am angry because I don't know if the fake came from Amazon or Ebay.
Same issue here mate. Bought off eBay. Found a few other tell tale signs. Break the chain apart and look at the inside of the outta links. The fake chain will be machined flat, whereas there is much more detail in the Shimano chain. Another common issue is the quick link in the same bag as the chain. Also, no pink sticker on the bag… very minor, but my chain was skipping right outta the box. Dodge!!
I got one from "the Shimano store" on Amazon. I first noticed the inner links would hang on the upper jockey wheel (new rd-r7000). The gap between the plates was too narrow. My package says "Shimano America corporation" apparently it should say "Shimano north America bicycle corporation"
Yea, no doubt. And I do as well. I'm so busy during the fall and winter with football and wrestling that sometimes it's difficult to get there. After this experience, I'll never purchase bike parts on Amazon though.
That sucks. I'm sick to the back teeth of receiving counterfeit goods from eBay and Amazon. It's not just bike components. Its shoes, perfume even mascara for God's sake. I now just buy from a bricks-and-mortar store that way you know it is correct.
Unfortunately, it seems that we are starting to live in a strange times. My newly bought CN-HG71 8s (china) chain got broken after... 🥁 ... 300m! Outer plates open up. I believe that I'm a victim of a counterfeit chain. I would not be so passed except the chain was properly degreased and waxed... but it seems waxing chain made from playdoh was overexaggerate.
Early in the COVID pandemic I couldn't find any chains locally so I bought from "The Shimano Store" on Amazon thinking they would be legit. I didn't have shift problems, but they wore much quicker than normal. I ended up buying three chains before realizing they were all counterfeits. I don't know if "The Shimano Store" is fake or if Amazon is just substituting matching items from their "Prime" inventory.
My fake also came from "the Shimano store" at a full price one would expect for a real one. It looks quite legit but does not go through the jockey wheels well at all.
@@TysRides ....my foolish self just purchased 4 "shamino" chains off ebay ($22 a piece) and I believe I've been slammed. Only dealers from here on out. Thanks
Yep! Same exact thing happened to me. I was messing with barrel adjuster, manually trying to bend the hanger. Then my buddy noticed link sticking so I replaced link and then it happened again. When I checked chain it was completely worn. Bullshit Amazon! Shame on you!
@@TysRides Just got off the phone with amazon, they are refunding my money except for a small free since it's past the return date. I'm just glad you made this video because I thought it was something I did to the chain since I removed the factory grease to add wax (which I had never done before). Thanks man. btw my seller was Murat Yumru GT
Recently experienced this with a 11 speed shimano chain .Not much factory lube , quicklink engaged too easily and now easily 0.5 of wear and I only put it on the bike 20th July and it’s now a month later 🤬
thanks for looking out for us Ty! I am going to check my chain now. I will only buy from my LBS!

Yea it's bad. I learned my lesson the hard way. Bike shop from now on!

Yep. Some bullshit!
Electronics too. Thanks for that. I'm getting very wary of Amazon.
You and me both.
Instead of Amazon, always have one on backup. Swap one and next time near the shop, buy a replacement faster than Amazon lol.
Yep! Bought an extra one today while at shop. Never again, Amazon!

Can't trust anything!!!
Amazon in a pinch but I try to default to an lbs. thanks for the heads up.

Im sticking with LBS. The money you save isnt worth the risk of a failure of a critical component.
Absolutely!
When I found out about this, I just decided to allow my local bike shop supply and install the authentic chain to my ride.

Yea, I'm getting to the point where I'll just go to stores. I got a good deal on some Nike shoes from Amazon and I'm beginning to think they are fake.
Apparently Wiggle and Chain Reaction online are reliable, if you have similar set ups in country
Aye... sorry brother. Keep us posted if anything else was compromised.

Yep. It's still happening! I will never buy a chain from Amazon again. Only from bike shop.
Ugh I think I bought this exact chain 😢

Did the QL come in a sperate package or in 5he same package as the chain?
To be honest, I don't remember. I think it was in a separate package.

@jtleon7086 yep. I would send them back. Even if you have used them. I called Amazon and they refunded my money for the one I bought.
Mine came in a little ziplock bag separate from the chain
Dude, I think I have the same exact thing.
Get it off your bike ASAP and contact Amazon to get your money back. And write a review!
500ish miles and the chain is completely warn, and there are like 5 links that are stiff has hell. wtf
