I think you need a bit more rosin, and it might help if you tensioned that trompette a bit more. And make sure that the keybox faces down a bit. Gravity is your friend. (I'm no spring chicken myself.)

Another great video! As someone considering taking up the hurdy gurdy, this video series is so valuable. It's great to see your progression, as well as hear you discuss challenges of learning and particulars of the instrument. I look forward to future updates.

Well done! This is inspiring! I received my Symphonia from Robert just a few days ago and am a bit overwhelmed by it at the moment. Your videos are encouraging me to dive in, starting with using cotton and rosin to get the most pleasing tone. Wondering if you'd be open to helping me work through a few beginner's issues? Like you, I'm an older guitarist, looking to expand my repertoire and arsenal! btw I haven't been able to find your videos 1 & 2.

A nice intro to the instrument!
I became interested in the HG many years ago. My first attempt was a Musicmakers kit, which I labored to get into playable condition, even adding a crude trompette. I then tried a scratch build from some plans, which never quite worked right, owing to poor design. I finally bought a second-hand Gotschy 'da Vinci', which was much better. Here are a couple of tunes I composed for it: th-cam.com/video/SPRXQnjYqMQ/w-d-xo.html
I've since changed the melody strings to octave tuning...
