Dave, I love the way your flies are tied, and this special Pheasant Tail is no exception. There is so much that I want to learn from you. Thank you so much, MSG Leum
I have been tying since I was 14 years old ; and now I’m 72 years. With 58 years of practice I still learn new ways to tie a better fly. Thank you Davie.
We never stop learning John, that's why we are still tying flies today and I'm sure you have many techniques that I would find useful too... All the very best Davie..
Hey Mr. Daniel, I’ve also been tying since 14. I’m 59 and I respect you’re at the vice learning, to get better at this craft as am I. Davie McPhail is treasure.
Love watching your videos.Am semi invalid now and no-one to take me fishing, but still tying after fifty years behind the vise. You are my inspiration and many thanks from New Zealand
Hi John MORTON, You are very kind and I'm chuffed to know that you find my videos inspiring, I would certainly drop by and take you fishing if I lived in New Zealand...I see on the news that there's a storm heading your way so stay safe.... All the very best from Scotland.. Davie
This nymph, this nymph catches me so many fish! I've had all sizes of trout and grayling on this, some absolute monsters too! Thank you so much for all the fish Davie. And there's no better feeling than landing a nice fish on a fly you tied yourself! Get out and swing some wets / nymphs, it's ace.
Hi Davie, you never stop amazing us!!!! I find it hard to believe that someone don't care for your videos!! I learn so much from you, great instructions that are clear and easy to follow. You are a true artist on the vise!!! Keep up the good work! Thank you
Hi Davie, great instructional video as usual. I have not been tying for very long and every fly tying technique I have learned so far are from watching the Davie McPhail TH-cam channel. So here’s a big thanks from me. I use the pheasant tail thorax and leg method when tying my immature damsel nymphs which work very well on my local water. Oh, I too have upgraded to a Regal vise, great piece of kit
I love that even though there are so many synthetic materials out now, you seem to use more natural materials more often and still look realistic. Keep it up Davie! Big fan_ Brandon
Another very nice tie Davie, I throughly enjoy watching your videos. I have learned many techniques from you. Thanks again.

Este montaje si que me gusta.Sencillo, realista, duradero, bello y efectivo.Una imitación para pescar y no para lucir en la caja.Desde Galicia, la tierra de los mil ríos, un abrazo David.
Another great nymph pattern from you. I fish a fairly similar pattern in black pheasant tail on a size 20 and it takes a lot of Clyde Brownies. Your tying skills are second to none. Keep the videos coming pal!
I have been tying for 2 years now and your videos have brought me from a terrible start to catching trout consistently on my own pattern I have tied. I never thought I would catch with my own flies but they work great. Thanks for all your help Davie. Your a gent.
Hi Michael, It's great to hear I have helped you with your fly tying but you need to give yourself far more credit as it's you that has sat down and made your patterns work for you so well and thank you very much your kind words... All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail the best thing I ever did was to take up tying. The whole fly fishing game is full circle now I tie my own. I know plenty men you credit you with the fly tying skills so maybe you should give yourself more credit too. I watch plenty tutorials but yours are by far the easiest to follow and the variety is unequalled. Keep them coming. Michael
Hi Davie, I've been going in my own direction as far as fly tying for about two decades. It's nice to watch someone who is both innovative and different than myself. With the winter we are having in New England I can't wait to fish (tying helps). Thanks.
Another beautiful fly tying video. I looked at the Regal Vise when I first started tying but chose the NorVise because it is much easier for people that have advanced arthritis. Once you learn the techniques of dubbing and winding thread onto the shank of the hook with the NorVise, you won't want to use any other vise. Best regards.
Very nice lookin' fly. I'm assuming that since it doesn't have any tail fibers that it's supposed to be along the lines of a midge? I always pick up a tying tip when watching, Thanks for sharing it.
I have been looking for a simple Pheasant Tail nymph pattern to tie and I just found it. I have watched a lot of your videos, and I am still amazed that there are people that dislike your videos. Did you anger someone?
Hi JSF 4star, The Cove's Pheasant Tail is as you said a very simple fly which I know you'll enjoy tying and fishing as it's a great old fly.....If I angered someone then I have no idea how I did as I do try my best to help anyone that is interested in tying flies, but you just can't please everyone.. All the very best Davie
Hello Davie, A number of times you've mentioned a blend of hare's mask. I've wondered if its the entire mask, including poll and ears or ??? Would you say, please? Mike
Hi Mike, I have many blends of fur that I have used over the years, the masks is great itself but I would mix it in with some rabbit. Another mix I like is to mix a hare's body fur in with an American Red Squirrel body fur which makes a cracking dubbing for many flies.. All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail Well I knew what I meant, but I sure didn't use words well enough to convey it to you... I'm sorry for that, Davie. I'll try again... When you cut the fur off of a hare's mask to use as part of a dubbing blend, do you use all the fur on the mask, or do you save back the poll and/or ears for other use (Hare's ear nymph, for example)? Mike
Hello Davie, I've meant to ask for quite a while now... when you take the fur off a hare's mask and blend it, do you separate different areas of the mask for different colors or is your mix all the mask's fur? Mike
Hi Mike, I would normally mix it all but if I was looking for it to be slightly darker then I would just cut the hair off from the darker part of the mask and leave out the lighter sides... All the very best Davie
hello have kamasan 100 do i have to weight it down to make this one ? thanks again davie for your videos learned to tie flys with your videos i think they are great it ment the world to me thousand thanks wanted to say that
Hi robert andersson, The B100 is a light wire hook and sometimes it makes sense to tye flies like this so that they sit higher in the water but you can weight them if you want to as they will still fish well. Arthur Cove originally tied them on standard shanked hooks and would dress the fly round the bend to get the shape...I'm glad you enjoy the videos and that they have learnt you to tye... All the very best Davie

Correct me if I am wrong, But was Cove's nymph more moles hair as a Dubbin ????
