    In fly fishing there is little more effective than a washing line set up. This is a must learn for anglers beginning fly fishing. A devastating method on its day for Stillwater Trout! In this video I want to share some of my favourite set ups for fishing the washing line. If you already fish with this deadly tactic let me know in the comments section what your proffered patterns are.

    I’ve been fishing 2 diawl bachs, with a top hat on the point most of the season so far with great effect on most fisheries in central Scotland, great takes

    Great advice and illustrations….I love fishing the washing line but usually only use three flies in total with a much shorter leader. Can’t wait to try your technique 👏

      It is the same principle and probably easier to handle from the bank. In a boat though it’s hard to beat a four fly cast.

    As ever multiple points covering the wider spectrum of a very effective method. Depending on conditions the washing line is just as effective with floating lines, midge tips, sink tips, slow, med, or fast intermediate lines, slow or faster sinking lines. When in quicker drift often you can keep a tighter contact with the team of flies when using a slow glass to avoid drift/drag effect in anything above a moderate ripple. Then with the faster sink rate lines a buoyant pattern can result in a reverse washing line or bung situation. Presenting the team in the mid or lower layers of the water column.

    Hi Lindsey very cool technical explanation. Any chance you can cover how you construct cast. I.e. Creating cast from single piece nylon or different pieces of nylon?

    • @lindsayiflyfish

      I can certainly give it a go pal 👍

      Hi Chris, thanks for watching the videos. I will stick this on a short video over Christmas. I will also try to remember to work it into one of my fishing videos.

    Nice video, Mr. Simpson. Your exposition is refreshingly clear and informative. I fish mostly wild brown trout in small streams, sometimes lakes.
    For your American fans, like me, you might include some definitions for the more common British terms, like ‘booby’ and FAB. With a little bit of surfing I found both references, including ‘Foam Arsed Blob.’ With those terms in hand I could look further for tying instructions.
    Best wishes, as I anticipate more of your videos.

    On the second cast, what rod are you using in the video ? The one with the white just above the handle? Is it a Orvis ? Very informative as usual. Thanks for ur efforts and time mate. 😊

      Hi Tristan, Firstly thanks for watching. The rod is a Wychwood Competition 10’ for a #7.

    Lindsay I really enjoy all your videos. They are really informative, I'm pretty new to boat fishing its proving quite a learning curve. With a four dropper set up is 20ft the minimum leader length? I struggle with a 15ft leader. Is it just technique?

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually fish with a 22’ leader. 10’ to the first fly it takes a bit of practice but worth bearing with it.

    Hi Lindsay, I recently started using micro rings for tying droppers. I am using 8lb line florocarbon. But I am getting both the droppers 6" long line wrapped around the main leader. Is this a known problem with micro rings. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Pal, I don’t use tippet rings for my droppers I just tie a surgeons knot. I can see the idea trying to save tippet material but I don’t think it’s worth the hassle. I did consider these for a while www.airflofishing.com/euro-nymph-rollers---clear---pack-of-10.html but in the end how I am doing it works fine.

    hello lindsay.What technique will you use to fish in slightly murky waters with educated fish? Can cormorants be a solution? I use a translator because I don't speak English

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In murky or dirty water black flies stand out the best. Cormorants are a good option 👍

      @@lindsayiflyfishfor the 3 fly clothesline (france) you prefer to put the heaviest fly near the leading fly to make it descend more quickly. the most colorful fly must be closer to the line. the eyes of the bobby in what diameter 3.5, 4, 5.
      Thank you for your response and for your videos which are very informative. I am resuming competition in France in tanks and your advice is very valuable. the only difference with England is that here it's more winter fishing. If you have any advice, I'm all ears.
      sincere friendship

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@passionnementpeche11 It all depends on the effect you want to achieve. I have the bright fly on the top dropper to bring fish into the cast. Winter fishing is different as the fish will be a lot less active. A single booby on a short leader is better on a fast sinking line as thats where the fish will be. Hope that helps.

      If I understand correctly, a single fly with a short leader. a leader what length please. Thank you again for your answers.@@lindsayiflyfish
