- Some more news has taken place around the New How To Train Your Dragon Live Action Remake, releasing June 13th 2025.
It's now in production with the cast of Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Gerlad Butler as Stoick and Nick Frost as Gobber.

Really hope they get jay baruchel in a cameo roll somehow. He embodied hiccup so perfectly in the cartoons that not having him appear in any form would feel wrong
And don’t forget America Ferrera. She did a great job voicing Astrid
While I can’t say I ever wanted this (or even want it now) or am excited for it, I am certainly intrigued by the production so far. And definitely reassured that we still have Dean heading everything and people like Gerard Butler on board. Casting choices seem decent so far and that new logo looks cool (different but still maintaining the feel of the original series). I guess I’m cautiously optimistic right now?

One thing that stands out to me is that Toothless felt like a different character - - they made him overly goofy he's like a clown just to satisfy those "Awww, he's adorable" fans.
I hate it and pretty much everyone else in the third film too. Everyone is suddenly stupid and out of character. I probably grimaced a good deal during the movie because it was just poorly written.
Peculiar why they see the need to have Astrid race swapped for diversity and representation (along with many other properties), but when it comes to Avatar they didn’t feel the need to race swap anyone.

@@NewOrcaI feel like it does matter to some degree, because why would there be a person of color in an icy tundra where everyone else is pasty white? I feel like that would make her stick out quite a bit.

nick frost is a pretty good pick as far as things go, he's got the right sense of humor to work for gobber and a close enough look that the mental dissonance of my nostalgic memories of the animated films won't down on the live action film too badly
gerard butler can certainly act the part of stoick, he's done it before, but stoick is going to look weirdly short to me in live action no matter what
still iffy on live action httyd films as a concept, recording of the on ice version exempt because those are just funny, but it probably can't disappoint me as much as the ending of the third film did (grimmel is too much of a b grade villain to make that ending work)
