I've been eating plant-based (vegan except for honey) for over 2 years now but I still enjoy watching these type of videos every once in a while 😉 Well done Mina, thanks for sharing! 👏🏽
Given all the anti-nutrients in oats (you're definitely not fermenting the oats for 2 weeks, like the poor starving slaves did, right?) you're not getting anything useful from oat juice. Juice. It's not milk.
There's no evidence that supplements/artificially added vitamins actually get absorbed. B6/B12 are animal vitamins, the conversion rates (you have to convert them as they are not bio available n their plant form) are also terrible. Sad.
Danke, Mina!
This video was very helpful! What works for me is to use cheaper ingredients for what I eat more often or in larger quantities. So peanuts instead of almonds (peanut milk instead of almond milk etc), raisins instead of dates (works on most recipes!) and that kind of thing. I also try to buy what's in season then freeze some to have when they're not in season anymore haha. Making tofu at home also saves a lot of money and is quite simple, definitely worth the effort if you eat it often.
@@Mina_Rome Oh, you have to try it! You can make it like the almond one or just by mixing peanut butter with water (which I love because I often forget to put the peanuts in the water the night before... so I just mix it in the pan where I'll be making my oatmeal and it's done!).
@@Tw1l1ghTT Oats and potatoes actually provide a lot of carbs, fiber and important minerals. Of course you need to add other food to have a healthy diet but they're great as a main dish. If you starve or not just depends on your portion size.
@@nigella4me Of course veganism does not work for everyone or could be even harmfull. But none of us here is a toddler and where old enough do decide on our own if this type of diet is beneficial for our bodies. And I'm sorry but Yahoo isn't a reliable scientific source.
We found this video very informative. Thank you for showing the process of making almond milk.. it looks rather simple! It's so important for people to have resources like this video to go to when they are on a budget because it seems like a lot of people that are transitioning to veganism don't think that they can do it in a cheap way, so this video is much appreciated! We tried doing the "on a budget" aspect, but it's been more reasonable for us to explain our channel with the idea that we have a hilarious twist, as opposed to keeping things within a budget. It looks like many people are already benefiting greatly from this, so from one fellow vegan to another... thank you for doing what you do!!! 😍
Veganism for me is really affordable! I’ll buy a personal melon ($2), cut it in half, and that’s breakfast for 2 days. Bag of rice, jar of curry sauce, and a block of tofu ($10) is my dinner for like 4 days. I buy bulk fig bars from Costco, super tasty and that’s a snack for like 25 days.
twilight Definitely not a starvation diet. Because of my height and weight, I need like 1500 calories a day. Cheap veganism aside, there are tons of junk food that I eat too. Annie’s vegan Mac and cheese, their cinnamon rolls (made them this morning). Morning star finally made their corn dogs vegan so that’s also on the menu. Kroger has vegan cookies too. You can’t expect a plant based diet to work for you if you don’t put in the effort. You get out what you put into it.
Bulk stores are the best. I buy my nuts, seeds, oats, spices, almost everything there. I also started buying rice there. For produce I go to the farmers market or local shop, depending on how much time I have. I also buy a lot of frozen vegetables and fruits in frozen product store (spinach, berries and different mixes). I also make a meal plan for the week so I only buy things that I will eat and nothing goes to waste :) I wanted to start making my own plant milk (for coffee), so this recipe come in really handy 😄
I've lived in Germany for 4 years now and your videos really helped me! also just wanna mention Manner wafers are to die for and the hazelnut ones are vegan!!
saphide hell no, there is literally so little vegan food unless you live in Berlin, Munich or Hamburg. German food Culture is based so much around meat and cheese, even being vegetarian is hard over here.
@@johannaulbrich8463 I mean it's still better than a lot of countries.. like at least you have alternatives you can buy other than meat for example in dm, lidl, rewe... it could definitely get better but it's not that bad though
Johanna Ulbrich well I don’t know I which region you’ve been to but here in my place (near Lake of Constance) there’s a lot of vegetables and fruits for a very low price. And yes it’s maybe because of the agriculture here but there also the same stores and obviously the same prices here like in Berlin/Munich or every other city. And compared to the USA Germany is a lot cheaper and fresh food here is mostly from our region and not flown in like in America very often. I hope i could clear things up for you

Great tips, Mina. If I was starving, and had very little money, I would survive by eating grains and legumes. And, of course, this is not practical for everyone, but I grow my own garden. I'm literally living off produce from my garden at this time of year. And I freeze or can the over abundance for winter consumption.
you can buy almond milk very chead at Aldi. Aldi Nord sells it for 1,09€ and Aldi Süd for 1,15€. it tastes really good and they also got a sweetend and unsweetend version
I'm from India and most of the population is already vegetarian here but going vegan is a little difficult as it's really it's not easy to make your family understand that *Why I don't drink milk , buttermilk or eat cottage cheese , curd , ghee , Honey.*
Interesting about the chia seeds! In the Netherlands they have become cheaper as well is my experience. Great tips. You can also try lettuce heads that grow back when you put them in water. And grow your own herbs if you like fresh ones. Takes some time and attention but to me it’s worth it! 😋
It's very cheap and easy to be vegan in Russia (mostly in big cities like Moscow or Sankt-Petersburg). Our culture historical based on different grains: buckwheat, oats, millet, rice, barley, wheat. You can find it everywhere here and it'll coast cheaper than bubblegum. If you decide to save your money, there are always lots of seasonal veg. and fruits with low prices (berries in summer, apples/pumpkins/persimmons in autumn, citruses in winter). Moreover, there is many vegetables, which a low cost every time of year, like cabbage, potato, onion, carrot and etc. For example, 1 kg (2,2 lbs ) of carrots is 15 rub (0,17 Euro), beets and potatoes cost about the same. Also you can go into the forest in summer and get lots of free mushrooms and berries, frost them and eat in winter. I'm actually wonder, why not all russians are vegan. My family is and we are sure that it's better for you and cheaper, than traditional food. Moreover, there are lots of vegan fast/ junk food too, as there are very expensive exotic fruits. Everything depends on you. You can be vegan everywhere, if you want. Good luck!
There is a store in a city nearby my town that sells near or just past the sell by date foods at a deep discount and, while not strictly vegan or low waste, is a great alternative store to help prevent excess food waste for people who understand what a sell by date is and aren't weirded out by the idea of eating past the sell by date. I don't get to shop there but someone I know has shared pasta sauces, fancy mustards, pickled items and other pantry goods and all were perfectly good. I wish more places sold things at a discount like that while reducing waste.
YES! I hate when people say it's SO expensive to be vegan. I'm like it CAN be with all the superfoods and 'specialty' items but if you keep it basic it's way cheaper if not the same amount as a carnivorous grocery bill.
It really can be if you eat boring ol' whole foods like whole grains, beans, potatos, and frozen on in season and on sale produce. And SEASONINGS! Flavoring your food without meats and fats is super important. Spices, herbs, vinegars/acids like lemon juice, etc.
If you want to eat vegan and as versatile as a carnivore (even without superfoods) it is definitely too expensive for working poor class. Ignoring the fact that eating a balanced and yet satisfying vegan diet is a privilege is one of the biggest issues in the vegan community. Of course it’s not the most expensive in the world and you can manage if you are on a tight budget for some time. But it’s a difference to be on a budget or to live poor. I lived in Berlin too and enjoyed the great fruit deals the markets have- but that’s Berlin. You can’t have that on many other city’s or areas.
I live off of things like oats, potatoes, canned beans, rice, cheap fruits (🍎🍌), peanut butter, and coffee. For greens, whatever is cheapest-usually spinach, kale, or mixed romaine. They’re my forever staples.
I have another tip: get non refrigerated plant milks and wait for a sale if you don't have a blender also you can use a cloth diaper instead of a cheese cloth just make sure it's clean
what you said in the video is totally true. I agree with you that eating plant based food on budget is not that difficult, fancy stuffs are just optional. But sometimes I think what is truly tricky is to find a way to eat things that are filling enough, at least this is a problem that I’ve been dealing with. Carbs (even pasta or rice) are just too ‘easy’ to digest, of course veggies that have more fibres take more time to digest but counting on fresh produce is not that efficient and easily manageable in my personal opinion. And I really hate cooking legumes😂..... Anyway loved the video as usual👍
During the summer and stuff it's really helpful to spend a little more on fresh veggies and fruit so you can freeze the excess! Where I live, seasonal produce is cheaper than the out of season foods. Buying bulk now helps to save later when the season changes! Happy savings yall!

Erdbaer Torte yes!! during my childhood days, my grandpa always used to make avocado “ice cream” which is just scooped avocados mixed with powdered milk and sugar then freezed for a couple of hours. of course i have to veganize it now but it’s such a yummy treat 💚
Do you have or could you do something like a “first week as a vegan” video or series, something like that. Have a “your first grocery shop as a vegan” with a trip to the store and a list of what to buy. Milk, butter, and other alternatives to get first. Also maybe a video about chai, flax, and hemp seeds, why we need them, and what they are used for.Nutritional yeast too. Some safe, easy to prepare foods. Plus seasonings because I feel like vegans often use different types of seasoning than meat eaters. Then maybe a second follow up “your first week of meals as a vegan” with a weeks worth of recipes. You could also include in the series what action you immediately took that first week you went vegan. Did you clean out your cupboard of all animal products, or did you finish what you already had? Basically a series of videos that tell me step by step what to do that first week because I feel like it’s the getting started that seems impossible, especially if you’re not a great cook. Because I am not!
Great video love the tips, even if i'm plant-based for a while now I still love seeing those tips! Also feel the need to mention the app Too Good to Go, works almost everywhere in europe I think, and it's pretty amazing, you get the leftovers from stores and restaurants for really cheap
In Spain we have another food sharing called too good to go, also when I need things like tofu, agar agar, flours... I go to asiatic stores since is cheaper, there's one where you can buy a block of tofu for 0'85€
Oh mina, your videos are so inspiring,i love them😘thanks so much for the idea to check supermarkets in the evening,or the bakery,or cafe.that is a great idea
Hi:) I have a little question about the plant milk you make: I generally use fortified plant "milks" as a source of calcium. Since in homemade milks there is no calcium added, I wondered what other sources for calcium you would suggest ?:) PS: Echt super, dass du englischsprachige Videos also deutschsprachige Person machst, willkommene Abwechslung zu den vielen amerikanischen TH-camrn; )
Supermarcets usually set down their prices for vegetables and fruits at the end of the week. So you can get relatively cheap fruits and vegetables on a saturday evening, even in bigger supermarcets or even supermarcet chains
I make simple meals and granted, not everybody will enjoy it but I am completely happy with it. In addition, I'm on a stricter form of vegan called whole food-plant based and lowered my LDL bad cholesterol from 120, elevated risk of heart attack, to 65, ideal and virtually heart attack proof, in just a few weeks. Whole wheat pasta (great value, $1 for 16 ounce box) Tomato sauce (walmart brand: 29 ounces, a little high in sodium but otherwise ok) Bread: whole wheat flour (5 pounds about $3.48) Sugar: super cheap: < $2 for a giant bag; I don't use much Spinach: $1.54 for 10 ounces: I eat 5 ounces a day on average. Bananas: pretty cheap anywhere: as a snack, and I eat a few thoughout the day. Tea: $2 tops for 100 bags. I use 2 bags per cup, and up to 7 cups a day. Still, cheap overall. Yeast: About $3.80 for enough for bread and it comes out very inexpensive per day. Garlic powder. I use about 3 grams per loaf of bread, 1 loaf a day (albeit a large loaf). Spinach is by far the most important for health. The expense is worth it most certainly. If you choose just one of my foods, or all, up to you. I hope you get ideas.
Are u you out of your mind? Cholesterol doesnt mean shit. Triglycerides and VLDL are far more important. When you lower you cholesterol you lower your hormone production as cholesterol is a hormone precursor
for any americans reading the comments: I go to Aldi's to buy food because I often find they have good selections of produce and food items I regularly eat for a fair, sometimes cheap, price.
I make porridge in the morning with all the seeds and all the nuts and all the berries. For lunch I have seed-tortillas with a sauce made of veggies, all spices and all lentils and beans. After sports I just have a hummus-veggie sandwich. That's pretty much every day. I'm yet to grow tired of it
You did very well ,keep going.Itry to become plant-based now and after that I wanna become vegan too and your video help me so much ,I really apreciate this videos .Keep going and success!♥️🥰❤️😇🙈

btw Avocados also freeze very well ... just have a little YT search on that topic
Almonds are expensive buying the milk would be cheaper
Not in Germany and Austria, actually. Here almond milk is way more expensive.
Buy them from the baking section it’s significantly cheaper
Clicked so fast my wig flew.
LOL Sophie 😂
Sophie Robinson like whattt 😂😂
Lol.
Hi:) I have a little question about the plant milk you make: I generally use fortified plant "milks" as a source of calcium. Since in homemade milks there is no calcium added, I wondered what other sources for calcium you would suggest ?:) PS: Echt super, dass du englischsprachige Videos also deutschsprachige Person machst, willkommene Abwechslung zu den vielen amerikanischen TH-camrn; )
why would you need calcium? You cant absorb calcium into the bones without vitD/k2/boron and magnesium.
Lofi is actually a really really good choice for video's music .
Omg you are so pretty i actually never saw ur face before
Supermarcets usually set down their prices for vegetables and fruits at the end of the week. So you can get relatively cheap fruits and vegetables on a saturday evening, even in bigger supermarcets or even supermarcet chains
enjoy the glyphosate and other pesticides
Lidl also had almond milk for 1,15 € I think (at least in Bavaria, where I live) and it's so delicious!
Great video! Really good advice and I like the format. Thanks for sharing!
glad you enjoyed it!
Whole wheat pasta (great value, $1 for 16 ounce box)
Tomato sauce (walmart brand: 29 ounces, a little high in sodium but otherwise ok)
Bread: whole wheat flour (5 pounds about $3.48)
Sugar: super cheap: < $2 for a giant bag; I don't use much
Spinach: $1.54 for 10 ounces: I eat 5 ounces a day on average.
I sense arrogance
This was exactly what i needed.
i really like your videos, theyre calming and interesting and i´m not vegan but i always like to try new vegan things after watching them

love this type of video, i might just do a low budget challenge myself soon on my channel. Thanks for the information.
for any americans reading the comments: I go to Aldi's to buy food because I often find they have good selections of produce and food items I regularly eat for a fair, sometimes cheap, price.
Hi, new follower here from Puerto Rico. I hope your day went well.
God bless + take care :)
If you like to buy vegan kebab, try to make it with soy chops. It’s so cheap and delicious 😋
I make porridge in the morning with all the seeds and all the nuts and all the berries. For lunch I have seed-tortillas with a sauce made of veggies, all spices and all lentils and beans. After sports I just have a hummus-veggie sandwich. That's pretty much every day. I'm yet to grow tired of it
Sounds like you poop 3 times a day... You cant digest all of this crap. Your body will just get to the sugar to get some sort of energy from it..
you really need to change that... it sounds so unhealthy
so many good and helpful tips! ☺️ great video, Mina! 😋
💜💜💜💜
a tip for anybody that reads this, if you do your own milk to give it extra calcium you can add a couple tb spoons of white sesame seeds
That kid staring into your soul 😂
