Love Pax Dei, it allows me to play the way I prefer, in collaboration with others who like to play the game the way they prefer to play. Some of the monetizing ways remind me of Once Human, WOW and others and am fine with it all as folks can grind to get and others can pay to help others in a monetized system or get "pretty" aspects of things. Myself I love color I think after 40+ years of gaming I have tried several variations. I am very pleased with this game and agreed the learning curve is a challenge for someone new, so the community of influencers may be relied on heavily, the website though has improved.
They've said several times the combat is being totally overhauled with the previous alpha combat system as "placeholder". It will be skill based combat with quite a bit of depth. Server issues would be reported and the VERY NEXT DAY they would be patched. EA just needs to have enough content and if that, then it will be successful.
@@jayoddity me too! I’m fairly optimistic for the outlook of Pax Dei. They have many seasoned devs from Eve, Blizzard, and many other major development companies. Only time will tell, but fingers crossed!
I plan on playing Pax Dei. However, after building a house and leveling up my crafting a bit, I am NOT seeing anything to keep me playing for the long term. Maybe after the next alpha test we will see something for long term play.
"Early Access" nowadays mean devs want us to pay to beta test their game instead of hiring proper QA/Beta Testers for their products. If the game is gonna release in early access, none of those monetizations they had planned should be in the game if they want people to test out and give feedback.
Exciting to see a new MMORPG coming first semester of the year, alongside T&L global release. It will definitely move the MMO market. Now I need to be sold about the combat system, the place holder in A1 was very sketchy from what I saw. Hopefully a mixt between NW action combat and Dark and Darker one. Also to consider that it needs to run for big scale fights considering what people can build, because from my understanding you should be able to siege other people builds right?
If the issue revolves around preventing the vacant houses of inactive players from occupying valuable real estate in the Pax Dei world, then the option to use real money for house maintenance could serve as a viable solution. For those players who prefer not to spend real money, alternatives should be available. They can maintain their homes using in-game gold or actively engage in maintenance tasks, which involve both playtime and crafting materials. The associated costs would start relatively low for consistent weekly maintenance, but after the second week of neglecting property care, these costs would escalate significantly. This way, players contemplating a break of more than a week could choose to purchase a maintenance fee, offering a balanced approach that addresses the issue of abandoned houses without giving the impression that developers are solely focused on monetization
Hi Jay, amazing video as always! I couldn't, but notice that your video didn't reach its full potential in editing and I believe it would've made some part a little more entertaining. I was wondering if you were interested in a business inquiry. Have a great day!
why wipes i dont get it just create a system where you can save your plot everything you have built and if you dont log on in 2 days the plot is gone from the game world but when you do log back in to the game just check you saved plots and put it back
I would pay for early access, but maintaining a sub in order for your home not to vanish killed the game for me. Years ago... my credit card needed to be swapped to a new one. I forgot to update my ArcheAge payment info. I lost my house and everything in it. Never again. I only play games that have permanent instanced housing now.
Tokens could be mandatory to avoid heavy botting. As a persistent world with strong focus on resources they need to avoid bots from the beginning. Looks good though, great overview
If they are going to be doing wipes with that much grind involved in crafting and building , that's likely to diminish the long term audience for the game. The 'token' completely puts me off as well. I don't mind cosmetics but any p2w or pay for convenience is no-no.
Looks like no one else has said it, so I will. Your assertion that on release the game will not be buy to play is wrong. They've said as much in their Discord Announcements channel, it just hasn't made it to the website yet. There will be an initial one-off purchase of the game. Their words.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you question how well the game will be received by a wider audience of MMO gamers. I think Pax Dei, like a lot of games, is jumping on the early access band wagon because of how well this approach worked for BG3. What has yet to be seen, though, is whether the Pax dev team has a method for taking seriously the feedback, of say non-PvP survivalists, and then making an MMO that appeals to a wider, more diverse pool of gamers. BG3 did that, by creating a beautifully performed and rich narrative that is personally meaningful. Each playthrough results in a somewhat unique narrative ending, and there are many class variations that can successfully complete the content (even if the balance between different builds isn’t great). In an MMO, each player’s fantasy (and power) is to an extent inevitably limited or bound by the fantasy of every other player. If everyone can make loads of gold by endlessly picking pockets, then no one gets to feel rich (b/c they aren't relative to everyone else).
I think PaxDei attracts a lot of gamers who aren't MMO players. I think they should definitely be careful about feedback from traditional mmo players as they will push the game in a dumbed down direction.
@@MS-wz9jm I mean, careful in what way? Like do they want those millions of players and that revenue or don't they? Do they have a place for them? They claim to want to build a game for everyone. I dont think they should dumb the crafting down to toddler level of most games. You need to learn game knowledge to understand what you need to craft rather than just a simple list. Take escape from tarkov for example. It has extremely complex weapon modding, putting a sight on a weapon requires the right mounts, adapters exactly as it does in real life. You learn how to do it over time, or research how to do it just as you would IRL. Pax Dei should go the same route, dont dumb things down for toddlers like in theme park games.
Great video Jay. Very in depth, and your opinions are pretty much in line with mine. Plus, it won't be for everyone, but for those who it is for, they will enjoy it.
It is what it is. You can't have player progress continue till full release, it's going to cause new players to be left behind. If you don't want to test out the Early Access then just wait for full release to play.
I’m ok with an early access wipe or beta wipe. But if they do regular wipes through out to reset progress or make it fairer etc I won’t invest my time.
Not sure if you played the alpha, but the only thing 'survival' like in Pax Dei is you probably don't want to get killed by a bear, wolf, or boar. There is no food or thirst bar, you don't die from lack of food or thirst, food items give you buffs. There is no temperature bar, you can't die from heat and cold. It's everybit as much a survival game as World of Warcraft. Mainframe present Pax Dei as a Social Sandbox MMO. Calling it a survival MMO is misrepresenting what it is and this will lead your viewers to disappointment if that is what they are expecting.
Yeah I think it's really mostly just crafting, but surival is more familiar concept. Honestly most surival games aren't about survival as you describe these days I don't think? Like Palworld, Enshrouded etc. It's just easy short hand
@@jayoddity That is a fair point. I have not played Palword or Ensrouded, and I think of a survival game as more like Ark, Rust, and Green Hell. As games evolve, the game genres also evolve, and my idea of what a survival game is may not have evolved to match. Pax Dei certainly shares the building, crafting, and gathering. It doesn't have the 'always under threat of death' element quite like the survival games i think of. It's a game with far less excuses to die while AFK, for sure.
