Intermezzo in E minor by Manuel Ponce

Intermezzo in E minor by Manuel Ponce performed by Mark Winston, piano. Though this composition is undated, it was likely composed around 1911, as it is in Ponce's mature Romantic style. It contains many elements borrowed from popular 19th century canciones, most notably the song form and near constant use of parallel 3rds in the right hand figurations. Though this piece likely predates Ponce's foray into guitar composition, the Intermezzo's textures are reminiscent of guitar accompaniment patterns.
