    That reinforcement in the stern for the chain plates seems nice and strong. I’m curious though whether you’ll have swept-back spreaders or not. I’m guessing you’re still looking for a rig, so maybe you don’t know yet, but the extra aft support is kind of a nice feature of sweapt-backs, and will keep some of the pressure off the backstay(s).

    I listened to your interview on "On the Wind" yesterday and wanted to give you a shoutout on a job well done! I love how short this video was! Did you work with a naval architect to redesign the dog house and transom? How did you know what thickness of foam to use? I reinforced my keel from the bilge a few years ago and used eight 1/2 inch pieces with eight layers of fiberglass but no vacuum sealing. Never has it checked, but she definitely sailed closer to the wind with no keel wabble after I was done.

    • @TheDuracellProject

    Hi Matt and Janneke,
    I am loving your videos and look forward to new editions every week as a subscriber. I also follow other boat restoration channels and think that yours is among the best: a perfect balance of story and technology with fantastic results.
    A difference between your story thus far and others is an absence of ugly discoveries. As I'm sure you know, old boats often reveal nasty surprises, especially after years on the hard. Though we've seen a few dead rats, have you discovered any of the rust, structural cracks or water penetration that can be common in older production boats? Is it simply that Duracell was built to a higher standard as a race boat? If you find any, I have no doubt that Matt can handle it!!
    Discussing this in an episode might help some viewers relate a bit better to your amazing project, since such discoveries are so common in other boat projects.
    Keep up the good work!!

    • @TheDuracellProject
      @TheDuracellProject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris, it's a good point you make about the fact that we're not finding "ugly surprises" in Duracell. We met Rodger Martin (designer of Duracell) a few years back and he told us that mike plant built this boat extremely well. I believe the language Martin used was "like a brick shit house." Duracell was stored on the hard for 25 years, but John took care of the boat on the hard, including running a dehumidifier constantly. Before we moved Duracell, we hired a team of surveyors to come out to check the hull for delamination and moisture and they found none. Matt still decided to take a few core samples (before we moved the boat to our yard) and they came out bone dry. Duracell has good bones and we're so lucky to have this boat. It's a tried and true hull. -Janni

      yes, we are keeping track of all of this stuff. duracell will more more oriented towards cruising than it was before. there are some naval architects helping me (who I have met through this channel).

    Awesome work catdaddy..... I’ve been following last few months and haven’t watched every video but I’m curious, and no I’m no sailor like you but I do have a center console, however I’m curious, did you weigh everything you cut out and that which you put in ? Just interested to know how you’ll calculate for ballasts n buoyancy .... keep up the good work slick! Don’t rush it, water ain’t goin nowhere 😉

    Will the new stern design make the boat slower? It looks like the wetted surface is increased.

      The boat will be slower yes, but still very fast for a cruiser
