It's a pity there isn't a button for "I really, really like this"! I think there's a lot more to X-Plane 12 than meets the eye, and we're still right at the start of development - the best is yet to come.
I was trying out the weather today - took a C172 floatplane up to Stuart Island Airstrip (YRR), current time and date, sunrise, weather = convective deteriorating, and watched what happened. Sat on the end of the runway. It was quite mesmerising! Rain squalls swept by, the wind got really gusty so the aircraft was rocking around, the sun gradually came up, thunder , lightning, trees thrashing around.... and the lighting through the clouds looked completely convincing - I've seen it look that! The only things I was missing were a blanket and a flask of coffee! We just had a thunderstorm here today IRL, and I swear it sounded *exactly* the same.
And I totally concur with Gondor Avalon below - what a fabulous hobby we all have, no matter what sim you prefer. We all love flying and are completely spoilt by the choices we have. Total kudos and respect to the legions of people working tirelessly behind the scenes that make it all possible.
I am not an X-Plane guy. I tried it a few versions ago and just couldn't get in to it. I am excited to see X-Plane 12 come out though as it is just more competition, and competition makes vendors up their game, and that benefits us, the sim pilots.
Same here. I have tried it a few times in the past but gravitated back to Microsoft as it was back then (no P3D). But I have not tried it for at least 6 years so I am going to see what version 12 is like. P3D did not really evolve as well as I would have liked in terms of pristine visuals and although I am happy to give it a concession because it is more for training than sight seeing, I still think they could easily have done a lot better. And a poor internet connection means MSFS is out - I consider myself lucky if a 10 GB download is done within 24 hours with several interrupts along the way. I'd have to run the X-Plane 12 DVD version if it were X-Plane assuming the DVd is available to users outside of the US. The only other realistic alternative for me now is P3D, but version 6 requires a permanent internet connection which isn't the case for me (and at this stage I am not enthusiastic enough to pay $500 AUD for the P3D version 6 professional licence!). I tried version 4 P3D and the aliasing on the runways is horrible. They resolved that with version 5 but in version 5 the aliasing of the taxiway signs at night make night approaches unbelievably distracting - like flying into a sparkler show.
I love the proper engine sound and ATC sound. The way the wipers stop working at the higher speed. Nice realism.
Oh, and the proper main gear drag.
The atc was definitely a vatsim audio recording dubbed over the takeoff..
I wonder what people would think about this update if MSFS 2020 was never a thing?
It’s in a better state than FS2020 has been over the past two years. The only thing FS2020 has that’s better, in my opinion, is the ground scenery. The rest X-Plane has always done better

@@squadric7722 my current xp11 looks alot better than default 12 the aliasing is somehow worse in 12,Only thing xp does better than msfs is fluidity of the flight model,everything else its not even close.I was expecting better than what 12 currently is.

Yall truly are comparing an early access beta to a game that's been out for a little over two years now, damn. Of course the aliasing will be bad and things buggy, don't expect too much from an unfinished product

Oh man! Does XP12 come with Husband Stealth mode? Seriously, it’s almost too much to bear… 2 Amazing Flight Sims at once! Exquisite!
This sim looks great! And of course, it's early access so it will have some imperfections such as overly darkened cockpit lighting and cloud over exposure, but those caveats will be ironed out very soon. I honestly can't wait to buy it!!
Yes and the biggest feckup that I have seen so far is a Boeing FMC in the Airbus 330....OPPS!!
Wonder why they chose to go with this and not put In The AB MCDU? Lazy last minute coding........ just pop in the 737 FMC, no one will notice, honest boss!!
@@richardswede a long time ago Laminar already announced a mcdu is work in progress, but will not be included in the beta, because it will not be completed at that time.

Really incredible. The rain, the sounds, even the little trails of water behind the landing gear, and the way the rain gradually diminishes on landing (RV-10). Spot on.
The water spraying of the wheels looks cool, but wouldn't the engines on TOGA create a massive spray behind it as well? Or is that still WIP?
@@sushiat probably WIP, they had experimental particle effects in XP11 I wouldn’t be surprised if they rework it for 12.

I wished the wipers actually wiped away the rain streaks. It would've been really cool if it did that. To be fair, none of the sims that I play do this, at least with the planes that I fly. But overall XP12 looks pretty good!

@@AlexFHDVideos2 The Zibo wipes rain. It's not an XP issue it's a developer issue. FSX never had rain effects. P3D got rain effect about 6 years into its life by a third party developer called TFDI. At first it only worked on the 717 and today only works on a small amount of planes and it most cases also does not wipe.
1st thing that stuck out to me while playing demo. The tires don't feel like they are making contact with ground. Like there is no aircraft weight on external aircraft view

Looks really awesome! I have X-Plane 11 and X-plane 12 looks to be a HUGE improvement over the previous version. I'm going to wait until the main release to get it.
HUGE isn't the world. Maybe marginal. Just shinier runways and fake volumetric clouds.

I’ve seen so many whiners complaining this is no better than 11. So far I am very pleased with the improvements and it is still in beta so I think it will only get better.

@@caspersolleveld9611 I am sure the servers were hammered. It happens all the time when something gets released. Doesn't change the fact it doesn't match MSFS yet. I am sure XP will improve though..
@@geekyfreq How doesn't it match it? Granted, the scenery is great in MSFS but the aircraft themselves and flight characteristics are much better and more realistic in XP. I'm here to fly .. not look at the scenery so much!!

One thing MSFS2020 Doesn't have is DYNAMIC RAIN and wipers that actually move the rain... Looks absolutely AMAZING!!!

Agreed. The props & sprites make a massive difference to VFR and is something really lacking in MSFS2020, despite it being the preferred choice for VFR flying.
I will probably stick with the DEMO for a while and then eventually buy the full version. For now MSFS is my main sim!

@@TheFlightSimDeck Yeah, same deal as the 11 demo. All the planes but only one area and 15 minutes of flight time.
@@TheFlightSimDeck They only give you KPDX (Portland). And the time limit as well. Word of warning to the demo users: the sim let's you try and load other ICAOs, but once you do you have no way to go back to the defaults without a reinstall unless you know the airport. So if you want to fly the default airport in the demo, use ICAO: KPDX

Also had some short flights with demo. No surprises about the graphics, if you've been following the developer's updates. The textures do look better, but waiting to see if the A330 systems match up).
The A330 systems are like all their other default planes.

Definitely needs new wiper blades on this plane. They do absolutely nothing.
Its got a few bugs so far but its insane im loving it.

Tried the Demo and had to buy it. It’s early access and already so gooood! Dare I say it feels better than MSFS?!
The planes just feel better in the air. The motion feels more fluid and you can feel the weight of the aircraft better too. Kind of hard to describe, but it’s just a really nice experience. And the night lighting is mmmmwaaaa! So tasty!
The wet reflections are stunning to behold as is the rain on the windshield. So much to enjoy and I’ve only had about an hour flight time. I’m removing a bunch of msfs files to my online storage to make room for my new go-to Flight Sim to grow!

Both Sims have their pros and cons, but I think it's safe to say XP12 will have much better default aircraft.

10:30 I can't believe the new trees still have that stupid backlighting problem where they turn yellow then flash back to green instantly. Guess I'll be using xVision again to get rid of that whenever it's available for X-Plane 12.

Yeah, if ONLY the radio chatter sounded like that! I'm exclusively flying in VR these days and it's going to take a lot of improvements in X-Plane for me to stop flying VR in MSFS2020

No, if the raindrops move (see at the take off) then the wiper also does nothing!

Correct, that’s a free strip you can download. Already takes advantage of the new trees because it’s mostly auto gen.

Wow! They are starting to catch up with FSX...
Its got a certain old-school charm to it. I dont care that it cant look as real as MSFS Im still a fan of the XP series. Both MSFS and XP will always remain on my system. They can both learn from each other. For example MSFS would do well to copy XPs excellent replay mechanism. XP should copy MSFS Community Folder modding system. Just ONE folder to deal with for adding mods - perhaps one of MSFS best features.
One big one XP has up its sleeve - you can enjoy it without need to stream data down the pipe.
But most of all we should not bash each other , we are all wannabe virtual pilots. A niche genre in gaming. Lets all get along and enjoy - no matter the platform we use 😀
amazing and beautiful. Thank you. One question - how do you get the moving head camera view in all the scenes? It add so much to the immersive effect. If this is VR it is so much better than anything I have seen up to now
Thanks Geoff. I love using this method because it really looks like a camera is being used. I use software called FaceTrackNoIR. It lets you use a web cam to follow you head movements. You can also use your cell phones camera.
@@TheFlightSimDeck thanks for this. I did track this down only to find out it is only for use of pc. I know Bob (sticks and rudders) had down something similar but not with the flexibility you mention. Now if only, if only ....

A Ziboed/Modded A333 will be sooo good.

Runs on my iMac M1. Not great, but doable. Cockpits are hard to read though, even on your settings

Yes most of them. I noticed some by the runway are still the old type, probably hand placed. But the auto gen ones all replace.

On the surface MSFS looks so much better but I've got no idea on the flight model difference. Those of you with experience of both, what do you think?
You can't compare the two. They use different systems, to achieve similar goals. MS , uses ON the FlY streaming data, WHICH REQUIRES A fast internet connection, to achieve their PHOTO REAL. scenery . And , the system requirements are obnoxious. AND, the system is typical Microsoft tiered. IF you want the real the "STUFF," the eye candy, YOU pay for it. Bronze, Silver and basically GOLD. And, is basically a stripped down SIM, unless you level up. MS is more realistic, but , the cost of the SIM ,and painful, hardware requirements, makes it impractical for the general user. XP Plane 12, comes with a lot more features, and is still only 60.00. I'll go with that all day.

Waht's your Camera Control?
I was using the default camera system with an app called FaceTrackNoIR, tracks the movement of my face.
The gravel airstripmis really stunning but.... are all so detailed like this one or is a custom one?
That airstrip is a free one you can download. I wanted to try it because now all the trees have been replaced automatically. But not every strip looks this nice unless you edit it.
I have been an instructor pilot of light and ultralight aircraft for over 35 years, and I honestly do not think the graphics of the FS 2020 scenarios are adequate for the real training of light and ultralight aircraft pilots. Microsoft has designed it (rightly) for those who want to play and not for the training of pilots. for this reason it is much better to take the realism of the X-Plane flight model and build on it autonomously some dedicated scenarios. Which is what has been successfully done with the Italian project of the "VFR ESTREMO"
Well, I was reading where a glider club was using msfs to help its new students one of the reasons where they found it helpful was the scenery was so close to the real one that everyone found their way to base. XP 11 they could not find it since the auto gen made it look different. Msfs is getting better. I do both VFR and IFR cat 3 all the time on Msfs I have both sims
FS2020 has realism settings. I think u didn't notice. U can turn all assists off and the airframe / flight model is much superior to XP11.
@@radialb1894 of course I tried to disable all the assists and the cell and in any case the flight model was much worse. The reason is that in FS2020 the flight model is written by a programmer for each individual airplane, while on the x-plane it is calculated automatically by an algorithm based on the dynamics of the fluids on every single surface of each plane. This is the reason why self-built prototypes can reasonably be tested on x-plane and not on FS2020. in summary FS2020 is a magnificent game but it is not (nor did Microsoft ever want it to be) a simulator suitable for training real pilots.
It's a fabulous upgrade and so smooth! Looking forward to experiencing all the new environmental effects. My only niggle is I wish they had improved the Multiplayer, but perhaps that is coming down the pipe.
Humm, I haven't used multiplayer in years, what's wrong with it? Me and some buddies were doing multiplayer just fine ~20 years ago in the v6.x days......
What’s with all the little puddles on cockpit view but not on exterior views?
Cockpit was real time and the external was all replay. Between that maybe it removes them on replay.

Hey do you happen to know whether aircraft addons scenery and others from xplane11 is compatible to xplane 12 definitely!?
So far I just copied my XP11 aircraft folder over and everything I have tried works. I'm going to clean it up and run XP12 versions but so far no issues. Scenery I have only tried a few and they work.
Found a bug on LU737NG. But it's only the lighting and some flight model that makes the external camera shaky. What to expect it's not ported yet, but it works.

Somehow, (I am VR Simmer MSFS with Motion Rig) I didn´t stop "playing" it last evening for trial on my desk with only mouse input in VR....

It’s free strip you can download. Naturally looks better because the new trees drop in around it now.
Unless I missed it.... where are you getting the ATC audio from? Or is that in game?
Live ATC feed, In sim ATC is more generic sounding.

How do you get your clouds to look "stable" like that? My clouds jitter every time the aircraft moves..up or down etc. If fact, they look horrible from taxi to landing. Standing still they look great! I have a capable system but just can't get them to look that good! Would be the ONLY reason I would stay with XP 11.

It’s a free add on scenery by prop strike studios. It could look this way default if they put the effort into a few locations. They really should.
I’ll be waiting before I decide to buy it. Particles on tires in the wet but not the engines? If MSFS improve their flight model then I really don’t need XP anymore. Sorry to say Laminar while you have made some very serious steps forward you are still behind the curve with the visuals and that’s a very large part of the immersion
been a couple years now. MSFS still has a long way to go on both systems and flight model...

Why are the puddles so random?
Absolutely awesome. Some reason when I’m on max graphics my textures: liveries, writing in aircraft, runway textures are bad
Maybe a screen resolution conflict? I’ve been running it windowed.
