I agree....completely against the wall and it shouldn't be anywhere near the clothesline. There was more than enough room to cut it back another 18 inches.
@@lawnborder Good. Because sometimes? People don't think of that. And also, always prune/cut the lower and try to leave enough coverage for the bird nest, if there's one. This will protect them from predators and also the weather. I'm an animal lover so I'm always making sure whatever I do outside? I keep them in mind. And not disrupt their habitat or remove it. 😊
Hmm. That was a good start. Refinding what the landscape features were/are. Thank you for rescuing the topiary. It looks like power washing or soft washing the walkways would be a good next step for overall looks.
Good thinking there in lowering the wash line.. think the hedge needs to be thinned down a little more as Mother Nature holds back for no one it will grow back so quickly after that cut.. but a good job you’ve done 😊
Looks so much better!! Thank you! O M G all I could think of in that walkway was "I wonder how many spiders are in there"⁉️ I had a recent bite that took weeks to heal. Kept fearing for your safety as you walked the "corridor of doom". 😳 I'm glad you made it out alive & in one piece.
I love your corridor of doom - I hope your bite has healed now .. I will add more protection! I was pruning a few days after filming this and actually ended up in hospital I had a poisones plant sap hit my eye it’s all good now but it wasn’t a nice time Thankyou for your nice words!
Yeah, looks like it needs a whole new retaining wall, and a good clean out. Still a hot mess, but a good start. The green waste was a heap of a load. Not a job I could have handled on my own.
Off to a good start, I hope the landlord authorizes a more comprehensive clear-out of those neglected plants and grasses. How long would a property have to be neglected to get this out of control? I like that wall-mounted metal frame contraption for air-drying laundry.
Is this the first overgrown mess of a hedge/yard you’ve ever done? You seem not sure what to do or you lack ambition. What you did do made it better but this is not a finished job. Sorry Don’t be afraid to whack it down shorter. It will grow back nicer and faster than you can imagine. It might not look fashionable today after you get done but it will make a fuller healthier looking hedge in the long run. Do you have a leaf blower to vlean up under the hedge and sidewalk so you can see what you need to trim?
Thanks rose, I just did what I was asked to do make it presentable, to your question it’s probably the 4000thant hedge I’ve cut back. I was very limited to what I could actually do
Really enjoyed this episode. This is a lesson to those who are unlucky enough to have English Ivy growing wild as I do. I left it alone during the pandemic and it has taken over. I do have a hatchet!
Looks to be a nice piece of real estate. Not sure what your laws are, but stateside, it's generally accepted that you can trim back to your property or fence line. Looked like some of those tree bushes by the wash line were on the neighbors side of the fence
You do the kind of work I am unable to do! I'd have cut it all off at the ground next to the fence!! Was some of that ligustrum? I'm allergic to the blooms! That would have been the first to go!! You have great patience and obviously love what you do! You are greatly appreciated for doing the work some of us are unable to do and you have done a wonderful job! Thank you for sharing the first part of a great transformation! Waiting for part 2!!
The neighbors probably ran out and threw money at this guy for raising their property values back up. What a jungle! And I agree: I would’ve slashed EVERYTHING, pulled up roots, all of it.

It’s to bad you could really get into it like you wanted, but you are doing what the client wants. Given what you were given, you did a great job. Look forward to more videos.
Question, why cut a front line first and not at the top of the cross bar on the little wood fence? Or be brave and start in the complete rear of the hedge?
If you don’t mind constructive criticism, I would suggest you watch George from Quick Cuts, he is amazing and entertaining. I don’t know how long you have been doing this type of work because you seem to hesitate to cut the greenery. It was making me nervous 😬. Wishing you all the best!

I work as a master gardener and can’t tell you how much English Ivy I’ve torn out. Plus, I’m going to start a club called “Read the Damn Tag” as people plant too close to the house. I torn out a lot of perfectly good plant stock because it was planted in the wrong place.

I was sitting her watching this video and actually wished I was there helping to clean up that NIGHTMARE. that is NOT an easy project for sure. A good stiff drink after this job is a great idea or a nice bowl of ice cream LOL. Do you carry hammers and nails I hope?? Other than that you are having a great day Right?? AWESOME cleanup and looks beautiful for sure. Thank you for this fantastic video...time to rest now.
No your so right !!! There not meant to be so overgrown. originally planted for a nice walk way then over the years of growth it’s just let go then I walk in an see what it was meant to be and NOW what can I do to keep the plants happy and make the property usable without a major makeover
I'm surprised the city didn't give, whoever the owner of this home a citation. This would never happen in my neighborhood. They would be warned and than ticketed. The city would hire someone to clean up and bill the owner. Or tack it on the property taxes.
Should've offered the landlord or real estate agent to duck around to Bunnings for some new sleepers and boards for the garden border and retaining wall. A bag of cement in holes for the uprights in the retaining wall and that would've looked band new. Easy to do and lets face it they're going to have to get someone in to fix it in the near future. I think they should've got you to remove the two bushes by the clothes line and take everything else on that side down to chest height and completely off the path to open it all up. I guess it's way too easy to rent anything these days. You did a great job and I guess I'm just frustrated it was half a job.
Great cleanup. It looks to be a lot of 20 year repair work to be done in some of those beds as those wood bed edging/cribbing were end of life 5+ years ago.
Is Ivy considered INVASIVE in the UK and Australia? Awful ground cover here in states... lovely yard and grounds to work on.... wow. Makes my yard look pitiful. I'm trying to identify the shrubbery? Not a privet hedge, not a boxwood...hmmmm and the viney looking growth? Wisteria, honeysuckle, trumpet vine? In your region, how many trims a year are required on that lot... on average? 3x, 4x +

I personally liked the overgrown ivy taking over the sidewalk. Kind of beautiful and mysterious.
I just don't understand why someone would plant giant bushes in such a tiny space. Great job cleaning it up.
The poor animals that used the overgrown trees, etc as their habitat. I hope you checked for nests and babies.
Normally if I see little ones I’ll stop an leave that branch but it’s not always that easy

Hi Bev,
Thanks!
This is a great video, I'm watching it over again.
love the "Hop on Pop" tree.... masterful trimming. 🌳
Thank you! 😊
Why on earth is such a beautiful property with such a great garden not lived in 😮?.
Какая красота получилась! Огромный труд! Молодец!
Good thinking there in lowering the wash line.. think the hedge needs to be thinned down a little more as Mother Nature holds back for no one it will grow back so quickly after that cut.. but a good job you’ve done 😊
If the overgrown plants hit the house, the paint will peel off and shorten the life of the house, so plant maintenance is important.
Good job restoring the pathways and walkways and cleaning up the overgrowth. Bless you.
You did a great job there. Thank you for taking us along.
Your welcome, thanks for watching
A big job you need a helper & needs to be in fast motion so it’s not drawn out a job well done .
So many people think that a gardener's day consist of walking up and down with a Lawnmower in the sunshine, if only!! 🙄
Great tree trimming!
Thank you!
It's crazy that you did all this by yourself. I would recommend getting a 6x8 tarp. A good tarp is a great partner. Good job tho!
I had a tarp on the trailer too !! Thanks!
this was a heck of a job for one person..... well done 👏 it looks great
Good job!!
Personally, I would want my “margin” inside the border……. neglected yards should be trimmed back a little more considering they are “neglected”

That was a great transformation. Completely removing the ivy, rebuilding the wall, and a power wash would top it off.

Yes Dana, ivy is the worse! It pops up everywhere where we are located!
I’d trim up once a season to keep on top of it so 3-4 times a year
I have now 3 years gone and still Ivy is popping out here and there. Takes ages to get rid of all the roots to avoid that it's coming back.
