      I agree his isn't marked up that well. My RedSS "Sid" is MUCH more red with a very dark orange under color. I believe mine and what yoyr talking about is referred to as a super red spotted severum. Either way all severums are great! Such a cool beautiful fish to keep. I can feed Sid from my hand but he's super timid and shy if my wife or boys are around the tank so he definitely recognizes me lol

    By far my favorite fish of all the ones I've owned over the years. They aren't flashy at all, but they are super laid back and have a great temperament (but will defend themselves). They do sift through the substrate, so stick with pea size gravel or smaller. If you have varying sizes of substrate, they will eventually suck one in, and not be able to spit it back out... ultimately killing them (happened twice to me). They recognize faces and will eat out of your hand.

      @@suehaynie4876 glue your plants to rocks and they won’t root then up. Rocks can be Buried or visible. They will nibble too but not too much. I would use hardier plants looks annubis, but that’s just my preference

    • @CichlidBros

      It’s the evolution of my tanks and fish… a bit pedantic to call that out

    • @PlainsPup
      @PlainsPup 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CichlidBros I love your channel and watch it all the time. How is it pedantic, though? Your title is, "Severum Cichlid: Growth Rate & Evolution." So, I clicked on it expecting information about the evolution of this species from fossil ancestors in prehistoric South America. Instead, I learn about growth and development. That's cool, I'm just saying the title is misleading. Not pedantic to point that out.

    I have a breeding pair of Green Severums that are in a 750 litre tank.
    They are about 8 inch, the female is slightly smaller..
    There are 2 full grown Clown Loaches, a few tetras, 5 Bronze Cory's, a grumpy old Kribensis which was the father of lots of baby's. I took all 30 Kribensis out because they are sneaky and smashed the baby severums. The tank is pretty peaceful now and the Severums are wonderful parents.

    Question if you don’t mind answering: I have a new, cycled tank that I’m trying to make a South American tank. I currently have 2 electric blue Acaras in there that I actually just picked up. They’re doing great. I want to add a severum but my ph is between 7-7.5. Research tells me severums shouldn’t be kept in anything over 6.5. Is there anyway I can lower the pH without hurting my Acaras ?

      I would actually recommend keeping parameters consistent rather than chasing different levels. I’ve kept my South Americans with the high PH and hardness in my area without issue. Definitely helps if the fish are tank raised and used to the water params

    Are there any plants I can keep with my gold Severum? He seems to be eating them all 😮

      Not many will last with them. Pothos is one that could go outside of the aquarium
