helo, original dev here its really nice to see people still enjoying manic to this day! i enjoyed making my ideas come to life and im sad its become cancelled this way at some point it got to be too much for me. i quit for personal reasons, and the guy who took over turned out to be a total weed mistreating me & others unfortunately maybe ill come back with a new project some day (; but not any time soon, as rn its still a bit of an open wound im glad u had this much fun w it, its flattering to see someone play in its entirety 😁

manic is a super good minecraft mod in general, which blows cuz its... likely never going to get an official update again, and any fan updates or add-ons are still pretty up in the air

The original dweller mod was honestly really good. It didnt rely on the design of the creature to make you scared, it preyed on your paranoia of not knowing where exactly it was. And when it finally sees you, and that scream and it just goes bolting after you like officer earl? Perfection. But then came all the copycats.
i'm almost sure that the mod is "discontinued" because it has been integrated with te "Nevermore" mod, wich is the combination of a lot of the autor's mods
whole thing discontinued due to it being 1: A datapack which broke with new changes and 2: Lots of drama in the team, so no more updates, and the discord is gone
Manic/Nevermore is a fantastic mod that’s sadly discontinued now like all the other comments are saying. But I think the biggest shame of it is actually that in its current state it’s a standalone or nothing mod. It’s incompatible with a massive amount of huge mods and breaks easily. And because it’s discontinued there’s likely no chance it will ever be fixed. It’s a horrible shame since it’s probably the most unique ”horror” mod ever made for Minecraft.

All of the mobs are actually facing away from you because they are eldritch abominations and would cause you to die of an insanity that goes beyond the datapack’s limit. All the mobs know they could break the game.
Oh playing Horror Mods now? (and a mod I didn't know about before). You are really getting lots of very long videos out, which I am liking. I love a lot of your thumbnails, but I especially love how eerie this one is. Really sets the mood for the video.
They made even a datapack for blood magic and one smaller for machinery And they even compiled all of their previous projects into one package called Nevermore Its just amazing these things
y'know, this is really interesting because its not just a useless mob out there to kill you, there is actual mechanics and stuff to do other than just "i can lose my items"
Yeah, the author understood that making a mob "dangerous" through its ability to kill you is not scary but rather really annoying, because you lose all your items on death. Instead, some creatures in the mod are made dangerous by not letting you get the new things you want instead of forcing you to lose what you already have. You shouldn't kill them, you should *avoid* them. Simply brilliant. Love that so much.
What's pretty cool is that manic comes bundled with a bunch of other insomniacs projects called nevermore, which adds bloodmoons, guns, and worldgen improvements among many other features.

I wish there were more mods like Manic for making a lovecraftian/occultism modpack, perfect for a spooky magical atmosphere especially if you mixed it with the archeology part of the game.
I'm working on the big mod which is exactly that. It's an occult mod with the elements of magic and technology, and its progression is built around summoning demons and other horrors to use them for crafting, building and fighting. Some rituals literally require a multiple living demons as a part of a recipe. I already have some things set up and working, and also have a huge prepared list of planned features. Wish me luck!

The main energy equivalent of my mod will be a cross between Vitae from Amnesia game series and the system of Blood magic mod. Hope it goes well.

I think something got changed in the Minecraft version you’re running that caused custom models to inherit your camera’s look vector. This is especially apparent when your feet are higher than those of the mob, like at 15:58.

When people think of Minecraft horror they usually go to crappie remakes of what’s popular like the dweller and herobrine or found footage of old Minecraft / eldrichian fog and it’s nice to see something like this in all of its sleep paralysis FMA father glory
I honestly would use the factor of how Minecraft was like back in the past foggy and a little ambient and it’s gonna start off normal, but like it’s gonna slowly change until you finally realize it
this would be a really nice mod to pair with thaumcraft because magically-induced insanity is also a fairly prominent foe in it if only thaumcraft was up to date, though
Also- I hope someone makes a mod like this, but one that utilizes the XP as "mana" as there are some speculations that in world of minecraft xp is life essence of some kind (the theories on why and how illagers cast spells etc)

There is a fabric mod that goes by the name of “Spectrum.” An extensive magic mod that uses color to basically “Do Science.” I recently discovered the mod as part of the “All of Fabric 7” modpack, and it quickly became one of my new favorites. I know you probably won’t cover it in the future for a couple of reasons. One, I don’t expect anyone to find this comment in a sea of others. And two, from what I’ve seen, you mostly use forge mods for your “project” whatever that may be. But even then, I thought I might as well give out a suggestion, Can’t hurt to try.

Manic is a horrror mod, but at some point, the horror just fades away and it's a still-awesome occultism mod

Also the mobs facing away from you was probably caused by an incompatible client side mod (usually caused by performance or entity culling mods)
It was Distant Horizons. Weird how it affected only some of the mobs and not all of them
