    I’m in the Phoenix area. I have a 2002 Astro- but I look ALL the time to see what’s out there. I see plenty ads with ridiculous prices… then I see the pics. The interior is chewed up, missing pieces, dirty… high miles… and they sit. Weeks they’re still for sale and they’ve dropped the price a couple times already. I love to look. It’s humorous.

      There's a car dealer in Tampa, Florida that has a lot full of use commercial Astro's that sit for years. I'm guessing they eventually sell, but the two times I visited the place I laughed the second I looked inside the vehicles. Every single one of them has a huge gap in the dashboard above the steering wheel, a clear indication that something is amiss. But again, those vehicles eventually leave the lot. Got me?

    The crazy thing is all used vehicle prices have gotten out of hand everywhere and especially with vans. Im from BC canada 🇨🇦 so we get even charged more. I was lucky enough that I bought my chevy express through someone I knew so I only paid $3200 If I hadn't it would have been probably $2500 to 3000 more. 😳 it's stupid. Ppl are trying to cash in on vanlife.

    This is the exact reason why I can’t use OfferUp. No one puts enough info or pictures for what they are selling.

    I guess some people overvalue their own work when they built the camper.
    Often it's just some 2"/4" and some sheets of plywood. Ok it may have taken some time to do, but that's mostly because they are not professionals and haven't got tools.
    Then they want that invested time back in value?
    And the one that looks to buy the thing are thinking about the time he has to put into it get all "work" out from the truck so he can check if it's done properly from the ground. Rust, insulation and so on.

    I'm home a lot and work remote, get plenty of old timers stopping to want to buy my 2005 AWD Astro. I say sure, you got $15k cash? They gasp and say I was thinking $1500. I tell em pound sand, you clearly haven't seriously been looking or you would know what this gem is actually worth

    Yeah some of the asking prices are ridiculous but you can get them for reasonable prices depending on where it’s located and how much rust or mechanical issues it has that you don’t mind sinking cash into it to make it your van for whatever purpose.

    I bought a 2005 AWD with less than 90k miles for 11k last year, but this thing was in superb condition. I look at it like this. If you have a 2003 to 2005 AWD in excellent condition with Aluminum rims then for sure 10k and above is a good asking point. If you have a late 90s to 2000 then $7500 to $8500 tops and thats in better than good condition. If you have something from the 80s that is in good condition and low miles, like less than 120k then for sure 5k to 6 k is understandable. But that guy and that year with those miles. It better be show ready and have a better than average build out. I wouldnt trust taking that thing to the city park over night let alone a several hundred mile excursion. Looks like $3500 to $4200 maybe. Not sure where he is getting an additional $8k for a $400 Journey lift and some Home Depot roll of Relectix. He should keep the van and buy an enclosed cargo trailer to tow for truck work.

    I gave up on acquiring a good, fair price Astrovan a couple of years ago. I got tired to making trips to South Florida used car dealers that were asking for crazy amounts of money for nearly 20 year old vehicles. On one occasion I splurged on having a local Chevy dealer check the vehicle out. As expected, they found all sorts of issues that the dealer claimed he was unaware of. Definitely be careful when looking at purchasing an Astro or Safari van.

      Excellent point - It's what I see, they get one and either start doing work then get fed up or just jump into "van life" and do the minimum to get it down the road until a high priced repair comes along then pass it off - I figure if someone has watched enough of my videos they know what to look at/for so they can use that knowledge to knock the price down to something more reasonable

  • @nomadhues8606

    People focused on the look or trend . Get anything true 4x4, get in good mechanical condition and ride out. Simple. only a poser would pay these prices for an Astro van. as cool as they are there are much more capable vehicles without all the conversion hassles

    • @AstroVanTribe
      @AstroVanTribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep, that's my point, "IF" it's been converted and done correct and it's all pretty recent, new parts AND the parts are the higher end parts along with everything else being dialed it, then that's another story - There's a guy in the FB Astro van groups who has built up 18 of these AWD Astros and got 18K for his last one BUT he does it right - These people are high AF :D

But seriously, I watch your videos for technical van info and watching how much joy it brings you. As a brother in arms, I'm just saying, you're better than this video. If you are ever in the PNW, look me up for some overlanding.

    • @AstroVanTribe
      @AstroVanTribe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carpe-diem-donuts the point of these sorts of videos is to educate both the buyer and seller - are you in any of the Astro van social media groups? If so you'd be aware how many people get ripped off by sellers lying about the condition of these things - The only vans worth what many ask have already had thousands of dollars invested in them... I'm really trying to help people.. I did a video on how to identify genuine Chicago made Schwinn frames because people try yo pass off Chinese junk as USA made Schwinns...
