Hi Amazing video, mine has been repeatly filling for a while and i was dreading opening it up as the bathroom fitters has completed tiled in , no access apart from the flushing buttton and when i moved the pan . all stripped down and took locally to get the new washers the whole system while out and stripped down, but no local suppliers havent seen my system before WDI and wont sell me the washer/seal separartly , where can i buy this from ?
Oh my god, as a single gal with a mortgage, no spare cash or family nearby to help, this video has saved my ass! Thank you so much. I adjusted the valve under the toilet itself (rather than mess with anything in the cistern) and it worked instantly. I’m SO relieved. Thanks again - totally grateful to you.
I've very happy to hear that! Well done...pat yourself on the back/have a pint!
Love the video. I'm an odd job man, (not a plumber or electrician) and get asked to fix loads of things around offices and I'm expected to be able to fix everything. You saved me a load of headaches to simply fix this toilet and they think I'm a magician! I wish all the 'fix it' videos were so to the point, I just want a fast honest clear explanation so I can get on, do the job and get onto fixing the next thing. I fixed my own toilet in 30 seconds which has been running for 2 or 3 years because I was too busy and it looked too complicated for me to bother with until I was forced to research how to fix one for a client!! Many thanks.
I’ve just flushed the toilet in my new place at 1:00am and this happens. I tried the first tip and it worked! Thank you, you’re a lifesaver!
Yay! 😎
PERFECT! Stopped instantly on turning the screw - could’ve saved myself six weeks of wasted water if only I’d found this tip earlier 😊👍🏼
WHAT SCREW ??? CUZ I DIDNT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING HE WAS SAYING . WAY TO FAST FOR ME☹️
Thanks mate. Took out WC while renovating house.
Water running straight into pan , cistern not filling.
Took your tip about washer not seating.
Noticed the washer was curling upwards slightly. Took it off turned it upside down. Mow curling slightly downward.
Fully sealing .
Thanks mate.
Really helpful.
👍👍👍👍
Amazing. I had no clue that the valve came apart. Popped mine and discovered a blister type defect on the bottom seal. Removed the blister, reassembled the valve, turned the water back on and no more continuous running. Brilliant. Thank you mate for uploading this.
I never thought I could enjoy a video teaching plumbing so much that after I identified the problem, fixed my flusher (thanks to you), I came back and watched the rest of the video simply to watch it and learn more.
If there was ever a sign of extraordinary teaching abilities, that would be it.
Speaking of signs, does the one one the radiator say "Never Mind The Ballcocks"?
Great video thanks. Your first tip worked for me. Our flush was running for about 10 mins after pressing. I tighten the valve slightly and this seems to have solved it. The cistern takes approximately 20 seconds longer to fill but it's far better than the flush continuing 10 minutes later!
Thanks for this! I have watched several videos about over-filling loos tonight, and so far yours was the only one to suggest tightening the valve under the loo which appears to have done the trick! I must have unknowingly loosened it when I recently did some deep cleaning round the back of the loo!
Also, thanks for having such a straightforward, fluent and clear video to watch. There are so many out there done with wonky phones or cameras, it drives me nuts trying to get any info out of them when I'm already pissed off and frustrated by something thats broken.
Job done. Slight nick on rubber would have never found this out without this tutorial. Great job saved me a ton of work (been driving us mad for weeks)
Fixed my toilet! Thank you so much. My springy outlet hole valve thingy wasn't springy, so I added a DIY spring to make it shut after flushing. Your video explained how it worked, so this helped me bodge it.
I followed the advice at 3:42 of the video: I ran my fingers round the bottom of the unit with it still in situ and I repaired the fault. Total cost of the fix: wet fingers! Brilliant video.
Good video. I replaced the full flush and still had the same problem then worked out the water was escaping UNDER the flush system. I hadn't tightened the big plastic nut underneath the cistern tight enough. Once I did this it's perfect.
Still like the video and the way you've explained all the components - and love your little test system in the shed!
Good tips, love the energy, good lad, its simple but mostly people dont even think to fix whats there, they just replace and pay more than required, experience and knowledge are valued, many thanks 🎉👍👍
Excellent. I tried the first thing you suggested, which was tightening the valve.....and it worked. Thank you
Excellent video, solved my problem in 20 mins by simply cleaning a tiny bit of scale from the rubber at the base of the large tube that should normally seal - it was hard to twist off the tube in the first place and the plastic seems so brittle it seems likely to break forcing it off when twisting the tube anti-clockwise - maybe I was using the wrong technique getting the tube off to get to the seal attached to the bottom of the tube to clean it.
Thank you. Your advice to half close the valve worked perfectly. Stress over. What a great video
Thanks plumberparts! Problem was exactly as you outlined. Bit of plastic from those toilet blue got jammed in the plunger seal. Cleared that and presto, problem solved. Though the connecting steel hose from the mains to the cistern also decided to give way at the same time. Had to change that as well. So aside from a strained back from all the bending over, everything is good. Thanks again!
Thanks mate , worked a treat by turning the water off half way to allow it to fill up 👍🏻
I told my husband the toilet problem. And he got worried that that'll cost so much fr a plumber. After he left I saw your video and that's it! It was indeed a quick fix. My worries gone. His too.. hahaha. Thank you so much James!! 💜💜
Good stuff, I just turned the seal upside down & also seemed to be having an issue with my button which is screw on & was very lose, sorting the 2 out fixed it & saved a £60 plumber fee with no doubt an extra rip off on parts. Cheers pal,
Thanks 🙏 it’s 6am I’ve finished 2 bottles of wine and I’ve decided to fix the toilet, seems easy
Brilliant, thank you. I've recently had new toilets fitted and the problem you described on here are what's happening to my cloakroom cystern. Hopefully i'll be able to fix the problem. As a diy er, i've never had to deal with these more modern systems. Thanks again
Just had this happen to me for the first time and i called the first plumber i found, he told me i had to replace my entire toilet! i said he was having a laugh!
Thank god i found your video, only had something stuck under the rim. cheers mate!
Great tip about simply reducing the water inlet pressure a touch. Worked a treat for me! Cheers!
Your video was very helpful. I pull the flash regulator out, clean it, tight it properly and fix it back. Now the toilet flashes properly without any water running into the seat after flash . Thank you very much. I guess there is no need for me to call the plumber now 🤗
Great explanation and helped me solve my never ending dual flush trickle. Reversed the seal and applied a little Vaseline, adjusted the float and stopped back the isolator valve a bit.
Very useful, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have had this problem at a flat that is rarely used and due to the build up of calcium in the pipes when the water is turned on again, the flush is obstructed. You described the problem and the solutions very well.
Cheers mate. No worries!
Many thanks for this video. Out loo started doing this and I've fixed it for zero cost.
Excellent vid mate. No BS and presented like a pro with lots of energy. Wish all youtube vids were like this.
+SSuperCuriouss Cheers fella! Hoipe you subbed!

James ,Thanks Mate toilet sorted it was the blue toilet block that the Mrs put into the tank and a bit had got inside the seal and it wasn't closing properly, took the piece out cleaned it and it Fixed it ,Thankyou 👍👍
I sorted my not dropping down syphon unit by decreasing the amount of water simply half tuned the screw on the inlet pipe THANKS YOU ARE A GEM !
Thank you so much James 😊 my toilet has finally stopped trickling and its all thanks to you👍👍👍 subscribed
Worthy sub, absolutely solved my problem, I’m by no means a handyman and would never have thought of checking the washer, nice one fella, very appreciated
You have just saved us! I had my hand in the loo with water gushing out like in the movies! we've just moved into a new place and we don't know where the main water tap is so we were in a big panic. our loo was having this exact problem and we have fixed it now - thank you so much! I feel I have learnt a lot!
No worries Louise!

Bradley Cooper. Truly a multi talented individual
Unfortunately, I could not access the isolation valve due to space issues, but I pulled the flush out, gave it a clean, and that seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the video.
If you do have a blue block in the cistern, I would advise wearing gloves, as my hands now look like a Smurfs.
Moved the isolating valve from 6 o’clock to 10 past eight. Job done.
Great information. Another idea if you don't want to take it all apart first . I got a paint brush and ran it around the base of the unit pressing the flush constantly(low level water still in the unit). This action dislodged the muck from the seal area. Now fully working again. Thank you for the help and information.
thanks James! a slight turn away from fully open with the screwdriver and its sorted!! thank you!!!!!
Very helpful indeed . Just replaced a Siamp Skipper. Was easy … HOWEVER . despite setting up the new one exactly as the original it wouldn’t push up the float quite as far and consequently when I replaced the push button it wasn’t as far up and wouldn’t give a good flush .. scratched my head and then moved two plastic things to push up,the release mech further and then job done . Puzzling when it’s a like for like product .
Really helpful. Covered all the possible reasons for the constant flow - including and it was a piece of lime grout beneath the seal
Brilliant, thank you! You saved me replacing the entire valve, I just needed to adjust the float that was too high!
You little beauty. After a tiny tweak of the screw thingy, at 3am, I can finally go to bed, I think I love you XX
Thank you very much Ana! Have a lovely day! SUBSCRIBE! ➡️👉 th-cam.com/users/plumberparts 👈⬅️ IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY! 😎

Thank you. Running cistern now fixed … by me. Grateful for your video 👏👏
Wow!! thanks for the tip about reducing inlet water pressure. Solved the problem . Thank you!!!
Thank you for explaining things. I confirmed its not the part you demoed today, I did clean up. I needed to get the floater part and its working in great shape. Brand new toilets throughout the house, purchased from Costco and this goes bad. The part cost $10.46. So i'm good with it and not waiting for the warrantee to send me a replacement part and having the same issue in a year to 2.
Great video, mine was limescale (hard water area) and too fast flow!! Problem cured!! Thanks V Much!!!
Showed this to the missis she was able to fix it and finish off my dinner well done 👍
Great video thanks. Any advice for when the push button remains stuck in the pressed position? I've taken the button off and cleaned it but it hasn't made any difference. I've assumed there is a fault in the connection piece attached (by cable) to the flush unit but not sure.
Seven years later ! Thanks for your great advice , managed to fix my loo today . I am a very happy bunny !
Concise precise information good work thank you fixed my issues.
So useful. Thank you for these videos, I'm just starting to get myself trained and these give some much needed context I can refer my learning to
Bloody love this video, just fitted my first toilet following your stuff, was running once fitted have watched 5 videos until I watched this one... Should have known to come here first! didn't adjust anything properly, thanks for the thorough explanation.
Any chance you could do a tutorial on digital showers being fitted coming directly out of the ceiling?
HOLD TIGHT! 🤣 thank you so much, James I have fixed my running toilet by cleaning the rubber seal under the warm tap in the sink ,cheers dude, I’v SUBCRIBED 😁👍
Thanks mate, saved me going to plumbers. Although it takes ages for the water to fill but we just try not to use that one if possible.
Thanks, the problem with mine was the blue water tablet residue had got stuck, so cleared it all out and working great again
Just found out from water company my toilet has been leaking 500 litres a day. Checked the rubber seal today and it has a little lump on it. It looks like a manufacturing defect. Your video is saying I need to get by a*** down to the diy store and get a replacement. Hope it works. Thanks for the info.
Awesome. Bit of cistern block got stuck in the plunger. Fixed in seconds thanks to you. Cheers.
Daft question - just fitted a new siphon flush valve which has an internal overflow system. If the inlet valve was to not shut off and keep on filling up the cistern, the excess water runs into the toilet bowl. My question is: will the toilet bowl fill up and then flood the bathroom?
Thank you very much for this video! I managed to fix the toilet myself because of it without calling out a plumber, and couldn't believe how simple it was. I've now moved my cistern block further away so it doesn't get trapped again - oops!
Nice one buddy. You've just saved me time and money. Just adjusted the valve. SORTED!! Thanks.
No worries mate!

Tony Snell me too, just reduced the water flow and problem solved, amazing!
HI James if i have got your name right again this vid another life saver last time spoke to you i was installing
this new suit over flow has started to flush in the last few days first time ever, noted your main points will check the valve flow first.today.My best to your family mate.bob uk.
Thanks so much, mate! Both the flushing and this other issue I discovered have now been fixed. 👍 👍
Fixed my toilet in under 10 mins. Combination of too fast inflow so not shutting off and also the float was too high so water was always going into the overflow. Thank you!
Hi- great video thanks for the advice. It helped me identify the problem but I can’t fix it. Basically the plunger with the plastic washer doesn’t go down and cover the hole where the water flows in the loo Once I get my hand in and manually pull it down, it stops the water and the tank refills. I can’t find anything blocking it or keeping it there.
And I can’t seem to remove the whole thing as easily as you do. What should I do? What am I doing wrong. I don’t want to wrench the whole thing and make it worse.
Hi James, Brilliant clear demonstration of how to fix trickling after flush. Keep it real!
Thanks for sharing! This helped us to sort this problem in seconds - cheers!
Thanks! Consider hitting the thanks button and donating me a beer! 🍺🍻
Brilliant video. Only problem is that there is a knob, not a screw on the water inlet pipe. It has three lines pointing up at 12 oclock and only turns anticlockwise to 9 oclock. Even if I turn it to 9 oclock, the water continues to trickle into the bowl. Any suggestions?
Thank you so much. I watched your video and with a simple tweak I fixed the problem. An invaluable TH-cam if you're somebody like me who hasn't a clue about DIY or plumbing.
Awesome info thank you very much. It was sediment stuck under the seat sorted in seconds
Mate you absolute legend which I'd watched this, I thought the float was knackered, but not opened the plunger and the paper off those toilet bloo things was stuck under the seal!!
Thank you so much. Didn't need to call a plumber. There was a very old piece of blue tablet stuck just where you said. It floated up, and voila, water stopped.
Adjusting the flow rate fixed it! . . . Great video and advice. Rather than manufacturers printed user guides I now go to strait to TH-cam
That first tip nipped it right in the bud! Thanks so much for the no fluff video. That running noise was doing my head right in! ;)
Them you for the video sir, the pneumatic pipe had come off and without your help, i would have never known how to remove all the bits. Cheers!
It worked in 30 seconds. Thanks
Thanks for the tip, I reduced the filling rate and it worked.👍
Cheers, mate! I just had to faff with the paddle bit ti clear out some rubbish that was stopping it from closing. Winner.
Thank you....very well explained
Great video - i only needed to see how to release the mechanism, it is quite stiff and i was frightened of breaking it. Found a loose string of sealant that i guess had been used when installing and the excess had worked loose
Hi James, we need your help!! Changed the flush valve, the siphon and doughnut as per your fabulous videos. The toilet still has water running though and we are baffled?? Any ideas what could be the problem? I used genuine ideal standard replacement parts.
Brilliant! The lid had come off the flusher and was blocking the valve coming down - thanks so much.
Can u replace the Internal part with a different one in terms of the push button plastic part or does it have to be the same
Worked a treat for me! Saved me calling a plumber 👌
"No wee-wees or poo-poos" Hahahaha - another great video buddy, cheers man, much appreciated
James, thanks for the advice on the video. Nice style and presentation (like the ronsil ads of old). Managed to stop my toliet trickling too. As you said, check the water pipe serving the cyctern and adjusted it. 6 flushes later and still good. phew!
Hi is there a pipe bracket on the market that wi allow me to support a pipe 50mm away from the wall.
Appreciate your help.
Many thanks Alan
Brilliant thank mate your always straight to the point with the simple troubleshooting first. Thanks so much.
Watched this, ordered the part (rubber ring £2.50) toilet fixed. Thanks👍👌
Thank you so much. You demystified taking the parts out to investigate - a clean of a bit of dirt from the seal and so far so good. Hopefully put an end to annoying and needless cistern refills.
Brilliant. 2second fix and full bragging rights, thank you.
Brilliant video, sorted my leaking toilet a treat, and saved me ££££. Thanks
Thank you. Just solved my problem of water continuously going through the toilet! Found the unit had stuck in the up position. So one working toilet! Thx
Thank you so much!! Saved me calling plumber out 👍👍👍
Thanks very much for that.! Looked at a few videos before yours and not one mentioned tightening part behind the toilet. Thanks again 👍
Dude grew up during UK Garage phase. Love it. LOL This video did help me and reminded me of DJ EZ - Pure Garage 1
Cheers for this! Turned out I had a kink in the water pipe reducing the water flow!
Best way to level up a toilet pan on a new tiled floor the new pan is will not seat level as the floor joist are out left to right and front to back.
Is it a case of using rubber packers or plastic packers or do you have a better way
