Next week, you'll proudly show us the cardigan/jacket for your son with buttons sewed. I'm finishing the Litla Blom for my granddaughter during your podcast but I'll wave the ends and sew the underarms tomorrow with daylight. (8h30 to 16h00/16h30 now) depending if it's a sunny or rainy day. And I'm already waiting for the days to become longer. I think darkness in winter is the thing I wouldn't like at all in your beautifull country. I love the sweater you're wearing today and the way you did your hair.
Yes, hopefully! The dark winter and how long the darkness last is definitely the hardest part, but looking at the bright side means looking at the sun up and sun down every day🥰 Thank you so much! My sister is the only one I know who knows how to braid, so I'm taking advantage of that while she's here!
Just bought a pattern on Uværslua and now I'm going to try something new, but I think I have the perfect yarn to make this hat, it will be super warm, cuddly and fluffy :D Watching you really influences my decisions I just cast on my very first penny socks from Nord, which I bought after the last vlog :D
I’ve been dying for you to finish your wedding dress since I first found your channel. Finish it by the end of the year you’ll get the satisfaction of that plus the counting of the yarn for your data. It’ll be wonderful. Also, I will sleep better knowing your dress is done!!
It's been a journey with the wedding dress😅🥰 I really hope I'll be able to finish the dress by the end of the year! Once the knitting is done, there will still be quite a lot left with the ends and maybe pearls? And of course everything else I want to knit🙈 But having the main dress finished in terms of knitting will be a relief!
Since you asked us to, here is your friendly kick in the butt to work on your wedding dress ☺ You can do it! The same goes for the buttons for your son's sweater. I know the feeling of having something that's important to you but you somehow can't get yourself to do it - but I think you will manage to do it this week! ❤ Maybe next week during weaving in ends you could go through your whole yarn shelf and tell us what each yarn is for? If I remember correctly from your yarn stash video there's even another shelf out of frame, maybe you can edit in a photo of the whole shelf so we can see all of it. I love seeing progress on your shelf, that bit by bit skeins disappear because you're knitting them up :D All the best from Germany!
Thank you for the friendly kick! Tonight will be the night for both the wedding dress and buttons! The feeling after getting it done and my son actually being able to wear his clothes will make it worth it❤️ I can go through all the yarn🥰 I love seeing skein by skein disappearing too! Take care!
Love your podcast. You're so sweet I don't mind listening to you talk about anything that's on your mind. I can't wait to see how your wedding dress turns out!
I wanted to report back that my Cloud sweater in Drops Alaska has been worn quite a bit, now, and hardly pills at all, so I‘m especially happy with it! My daughter also really likes the Alfred pattern and has made it in several sizes for her girls, such a nice basic.
Hi, Ulina. Thank you for the podcast. I just wanted to say the Olga sweater you're wearing is wonderful, and this hair style really suits you. You' ve inspired me to knit an Olga myself.
I really love the Uvaerslua hats, especially the pink ones with the ears, SO cute! I actually think I will buy the pattern and see how I get along with google translate 😊 as for the bottom of your wedding dress, maybe just a plain bind off and you could sew on (your sister could help) some small crystal type embellishments and it would look like little snow crystals sparkling.
I love that hat pattern! I've heard from someone that the designer has said the English translation will be in place soon! Small crystals at the bottom would be so pretty❤️
If you want the sleeves tobe wider but not the body, you could knit the amount of rows for the arm hole that is said for the size above, so that you can knit the sleeve in one size up. Hopefully you understand what i mean, it can work when its not a ragland...
@@norwegianknitter Agree, with drop shoulder just go up one or two seizes for armhole measurements and then also pick up sleeve stitches for that size.
I’m totally the same with procrastinating! Starting the thing is the hardest part for me, I’ll often make something out to be a lot bigger/ harder/ more time consuming in my head. So I’ll make a deal with myself to only do five minutes of the thing, then if after five minutes I want to continue it’s a bonus, and if I don’t feel like it, then it’s ok because I’ve met my goal. I think your weaving in ends segment of the podcast is great, because you’re attaching the project to something you’re already doing on a regular basis.
Yes, it's always starting that's the issue! Once I've started, it's never actually that bad😅🙈 Making a deal like that with yourself is so smart! I need to try that! I'm really happy I started weaving in ends in the podcast, it has made it so much easier to get done!
I love the little pink hats with ears! When I was a little girl, my auntie knit me a hat with kitten ears, it was my favourite☺️. A suggestion of what you could talk about while weaving in ends could be Norwegian traditions, anything about Norway would be very interesting(?). All your knitting is very inspiring 💕
I am the queen of procrastination too! I’m forever trying to change that but it’s so very hard. One thing I try to think about is how much time it’ll take. If I know it’s only a few minutes that’s my motivation to just do it then. It’s a constant thing I have to think about though.
Yes, it's always the smallest tasks too. It's would take me 5 minutes, but here we are a year later lol🥴 Procrastinating what I should do makes me more productive when it comes to the actual knitting, tho, so at least that's something😅
Love your braids today! Suits your face very well. I have always been a procrastinator for everything I don't enjoy doing in all aspects of life. It has gotten me into trouble a few times but most of the time I am just powering through in the last minute. I wish I could change it but I have not been successful so far. Don't beat yourself up over it if it isn't causing an actual problem. And I don't mean stop trying completely but don't be too hard on yourself. We are doing great in other areas! 😄
Thank you! I'm not sure one can change out of being a procrastinator, but maybe set up better systems so it's harder to let the procrastination win. That's my goal🤞🏻
Love the sweet hats- if only my Norwegian was better! Sometimes I write lists and tick things off to avoid procrastinating or say I can’t knit or do things I like until something I’m not keen is done. I’ve got a Fiskerhuse sweater kit coming for Christmas that I plan to cast on. It’s all over colourwork in Isager yarns. It looks so soft and squishy- I can’t wait! 😊 Looking forward to seeing all the buttons on your cardigans next week 👍
I hope the designer will translate the pattern into English! Lists are great! I hope that me saying I need to get it done in the video will be enough to make myself sow in those buttons😅 Colorwork in Isager yarn sounds like a dream! I hope 2025 will be the year I get to try out some of their yarn🤞🏻
I just love all of those hats, and the pink ones with the ears are SO cute! There are many things in life I procrastinate and with my knitting there are several things I don’t enjoy (blocking is what I dislike the most). So I guess I just schedule a time to do it and commit myself to that (which is probably easier for me since I don’t have a young child), and remind myself of how satisfied I feel when the task is done. I have never planned a Christmas Eve cast on but it sounds like a lovely tradition! I would love to hear about any Christmas traditions that your family has or about holiday traditions that are special in Norway (I’m also very curious why you have always disliked Christmas but that can be very personal). I do not feel like I am being held hostage while you are weaving in ends and feel happy to be “helping” you do it. Maybe you could sew on some buttons with us next week,😊
Such a good pattern! Both fun and practical🥰 Scheduling in time for ends and buttons is definitely the way to go. With ends, I always do it during the podcast, and that has helped loads. Now, I just need to find a time to sew in buttons😅 Christmas Eve Cast-On is a really fun tradition! We celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, so it's a really nice way to round off the celebration🥰 Thanks for all the good suggestions for what to talk about❤️ I'm glad you didn't feel like a hostage😅 Take care!
Honestly, I think I now need to make the uværslue🥹 Those small hats with the earflaps looks so warm and cozy, and I am so sure I could use up stash yarn for that!
Those hats are adorable, especially the ones with ears! those flaps are called ear flaps in English and they are sooo nice and warm. I need a hat with ear flaps because my years hurt so bad when it is cold. I am about to pick up my christmas dress again and work on it. Took a month and a half to spin the yarn I need to finish it. I have the skirt done, so just the body and sleeves to go. Maybe I'll get it done before Christmas???? but also knitting gloves for the family and started pair 2 of 4 today... they don't take very long. I am LOVING Drops Lima for gloves! it is so warm and easy to knit with.
They are so adorable! And hats with ear flaps are superior! They don't ride up. They cover your ears, they are just great! Good luck with your dress🥰 I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you being done in time for Christmas! I love drops Lima for gloves, too! I'll be making at least one pair for Christmas🤭
So nice to see you every Saturday! did your sister braid your hair? I have an idea for your weaving in ends segment.. maybe call your friend and talk about your sweater no20 projects? get an update on her sweater and her review on what she's knitting. hehe. idk if she would like the idea but it's always easier to find something to talk about when you're not talking by yourself .
She did! She's the only one I know who know how so I take advantage when she's home! I usually film during the day, and she's at work then, but I can call her the ecening before and get the latest update from her and share that❤️
I recommend studio lightning bulb if you struggle with lightning. The light temperature is simmilar to sunlight and it is strong without being blinding. And you can just put it in your regular lamp if it is wide enough or without lamp shade. I will continue on commenting later when I'll actualy see the video😂 Regarding your wedding dress some simle lace could make the project more engaging again. You may have the same situation here like with the blanket. But it need to be subtle enough to fit the overall feel of the garment. And this may lead to more procrastination while choosing design 😅 But then what kind of finishing will be good if not lace? Double knitted? I belive youu can do the dress your main project if you find some way to make it exciting again. Maybe watch some films about weddings/ love you like. I would watch Pride and Prejudice a hundret times if it would be mine. Darling Desi TH-cam Channel is also a place to get inspired about how to romanticize mundane. And if you don't start to knit on it soon, I can try to harras you daily on Instagram about it.
For weaving the ends I would love to know more about your winter tradition, what kind of food you prepare for hollyday, what's your favourite, when you plan to dress your christmas tree etc. Maybe something about the way you store your knits, your current feelings about the quantity of it and the prospect of it growing so quickly. You can try some of the techniques people suggested for making weaving the ends more plesant and talk about how it works for you. Or you can do it in silence and make it more of a vlog segment with calming music if you hsve nothing to say or don't feel like it. Good luck on figuring things out! Happy knitting.
@ also, I was thinking about this when you were talking about needing to sew on buttons: I tend to be a procrastinator too, and then it gets hard when I get to the point of feeling disappointed or ashamed of something I have put off, but those feelings tend to perpetuate the cycle of procrastination too. One of the mottos I tell myself is that it will take less time to accomplish than I have spent thinking about it, also I say “nothing to it but to do it!” It might seem silly, but it helps me 😅
@KaylaGraystitches Yes! It gets almost paralyzing after a while. It's so true that you end up spending more time thinking about it than it would have taken to just do it😅🙈
Wow, you've given yourself a lot to do! I hope you also have time to look back en enjoy what you have accomplished. I certainly am in awe of it! Also, maybe turning the small finishing tasks into a game might help? I just saw someone using dice to determine which project to work on (each number on the dice corresponded to a project/task). Someone else was using listening to a song an racing to see how many tasks she could finish during that song as a motivator. As for what to talk about in your weaving-in segment, really anything will do. I am curious though about what it is like living in Norway in winter, and certain traditions of habits that go with wintertime and winter holidays might be a fun subject too.
Hopefully, I'll have time to both finish everything and look back at it🤞🏻 Thank you❤️ Using a dice to determine what to work on is so clever! Thanks for the suggestions for what I could talk about🥰
I made that baby hat with the help from Google translate. It was not easy because the translation often didn't make sense. I absolutely love that pattern, I think it's one of the rare ones that are super simple yet genius in its construction. I also left comments everywhere, saying I hope the designer would also release it in English. (So I don't have to struggle as much next time). She replied to me and other people that the English version would come at the end of the month. That was in November, so I assume it will be available very soon.
I'm sorry you had to struggle with the translation! I love that it's such a simple construction, but when it all comes together, it's just amazing🥰 I'm glad to hear the English version of the pattern should come any minute!
I’m a procrastinator too 🫣. My thing is blocking I made the folklore cardigan (lionbrand pattern). It’s been sat there for months 🫣 I did the sleeves about a week ago. Great content as always ❤
I would love to hear tips on what to do with toddlers and or ad adults when it's pitch black dark. How to catch fresh air still and also where to go when not at home or what to do at home when one needs to move. About motivation and flow which is what I think is missing when one is procrastinating: I just consider my projects finished when they are ready to be worn, with buttons and blocked etc. Before I call it having gotten stuck or hibernating which both helps me to figure out why it happened and how to get rid of it .some projects I then just unravelled others I finished super quickly once motivation was there again. Toddlers grow so fast its really motivating to know each day quicker finished is one more day worn or having had the option to.
We don't do that much when it's completely dark! Luckily, we don't live that far north, so we do get some sunlight, or at least some light each day. As we are all home during the day too, that's when we'll do stuff. After dark, we hibernate😅 We usually go right outside the house when we go out and run around playing in the snow, or to the library, or later in winter when there is more snow we go skiing. I should really work on not thinking about the project as done before it has buttons and ends woven in, but they are still kinda wearable without, and I tend to do that quite a bit🙈 Today is the day for tackling buttons tho🤞🏻
Love your red and white sweater :) it inspired me to knit something red ad white as well :) I'll have to think which pattern to use, I also really want to make something navy blue and a bit of red, and also grey and a little red red. Absolutely love these colour combos 🤍♥ Even though I am not a pro knitter yet but I want to try :)
Olina I would love to know if you have any dream knits. Have you ever used variegated or speckled yarns ? Have you ever put any thought into designing any knits ? Would you ever consider doing tutorials ? Thank you.
Great job on getting caught up! What if you made a rule that when you sit down to knit, you cannot pick up a project until you weave in the ends of only one finished item each day? Then you'd make great progress every day!
Hi Oline, I'm expecting my baby for the beginning of april and I plan to knit him a lot of knitwear, hence I discovered your channel and now I'm a regular here :) I wanted to ask your opinion if it is worth knitting stuff in the smaller size (0-2, 0-3 months) not knowing how big the baby will be born or should I jump to the second size and just accept that some things are a bit oversize but fit him longer? Which are the garments that are better fitting more snuggly and which are just as good being oversize? Thank you so much!
Hi! Congratulations🥰❤️ I found it very worthwhile to knit pieces in the smallest sizes. You probably won't need a ton in the smallest sizes, but having a suit, a sweater, or cardi and pants I'd recommend. Of course, it depends on where you live, I can only speak as a Norwegian😅 The smallest knits are quite quick to knit, and I found knitwear grew more with my son than his regular clothes, so he could wear his knits for longer! But I'd focus most of my time on the biggest sizes, and maybe the time of year when it's coldest? I think Selmas Sleepsuit is a pattern that works just as well oversized, and DK weight and chunkyer sweaters, too! For pants and fingering weight, I've preferred more true to size🥰 Hope this helps! I'm happy to give more tips if you ever want them❤️ Find me on Instagram at @strikkeoline if you want more specifics, and I could share my list of everything. I knit my son separated by sizes. Good luck knitting for your babe❤️
Have you considered blocking your wedding dress and your sweater #20 right now so you know how long they will be before you start the bottom of each project? I like to do what you did and do the neckline then both sleeves then I block it before I do the ribbing so I know exactly how it will behave.
I have thought about it, but I'm not going to block the wedding dress. I'll steam it, but I've struggled to do that right on the skirt with needles or try on tubing attached. But I've got a new ironing board since, so I'm going to try that again! And for sweater no20, the designer says in the pattern that it does not really grow any in length only in width by blocking.
I can't believe how fast you knit your projects. I would suggest, for your wedding dress, to set a specific length of time each day to knit it. Even if it's only 15 minutes or so. You will get it done by years end, I'm sure.
Setting a timer is a clever way of doing it! Im sure once I've started, I would want to do more than 15 minutes too. It's just getting started that's the tricky part😅
I have also noticed that petiteknit patterns do not fit me well around the shoulders (my shoulders are fairly broad). Maybe her grading just doesn't fit well if you are not petite!
Maybe you can let yourself listen to music on your phone while you sew on buttons. Or, maybe be break it down, like day 1 get the needle threaded and scissors and buttons ready, day 2 put one button on, day 3 put another button on, etc. It's a more do-able goal in small pieces. On Its' a Sarah, she decided that she would only let herself weave in ends on Friday, so any other day, she would say, "No, you can't do that until Friday."
Thank you for all the good ideas! I really liked the idea of having a day for weaving in ends and therefore not feeling bad for not doing it on the other days❤️
Next week, you'll proudly show us the cardigan/jacket for your son with buttons sewed. I'm finishing the Litla Blom for my granddaughter during your podcast but I'll wave the ends and sew the underarms tomorrow with daylight. Or you can do it in silence and make it more of a vlog segment with calming music if you hsve nothing to say or don't feel like it. Good luck on figuring things out! Happy knitting.
It’s so impressive how much knitting you can get done every week 🤩
It helps that my sons bedtime is between 4 and 5 pm ever since daylight savings😅🙈
@ also, I was thinking about this when you were talking about needing to sew on buttons: I tend to be a procrastinator too, and then it gets hard when I get to the point of feeling disappointed or ashamed of something I have put off, but those feelings tend to perpetuate the cycle of procrastination too. One of the mottos I tell myself is that it will take less time to accomplish than I have spent thinking about it, also I say “nothing to it but to do it!”
It might seem silly, but it helps me 😅
@KaylaGraystitches Yes! It gets almost paralyzing after a while. It's so true that you end up spending more time thinking about it than it would have taken to just do it😅🙈
You children's hats with ear flaps remind me of Peruvian Inca hats high up in the Andes Mountains. Your pink hats are adorable.
They are amazing❤️
Hopefully, I'll have time to both finish everything and look back at it🤞🏻 Thank you❤️
Using a dice to determine what to work on is so clever!
I can imagine how easy it is to procrastinate a project like that😅🙈 Thank you❤️
I would love to hear tips on what to do with toddlers and or ad adults when it's pitch black dark.
After dark, we hibernate😅
We usually go right outside the house when we go out and run around playing in the snow, or to the library, or later in winter when there is more snow we go skiing.
I should really work on not thinking about the project as done before it has buttons and ends woven in, but they are still kinda wearable without, and I tend to do that quite a bit🙈
Today is the day for tackling buttons tho🤞🏻
Love your red and white sweater :) it inspired me to knit something red ad white as well :) I'll have to think which pattern to use, I also really want to make something navy blue and a bit of red, and also grey and a little red red. Absolutely love these colour combos 🤍♥
Even though I am not a pro knitter yet but I want to try :)
Thank you! Red and white together is so pretty! Navy blue too💙 good luck!
I'm a foreigner living in Denmark and they have "julefrokost" this time of year. Sounds similar to the jule event you were describing :)
Yes! I googled it, and a Norwegian site said they were really similar to each other!
I love hearing about your daily life in Norway. Have you heard of the patterns of Jennifer Beale. Very different construction.
Thank you! I've never heard of her before! Thanks for letting me know about her❤️
Olina I would love to know if you have any dream knits. Have you ever used variegated or speckled yarns ? Have you ever put any thought into designing any knits ? Would you ever consider doing tutorials ? Thank you.
Thank you for all the questions! Great things to talk about while weaving in ends❤️
Great job on getting caught up! What if you made a rule that when you sit down to knit, you cannot pick up a project until you weave in the ends of only one finished item each day? Then you'd make great progress every day!
Thank you! Im afraid I would just end up procrastinating all of knitting😅🙈 But if not it would be perfect
Hi! Congratulations🥰❤️
I found it very worthwhile to knit pieces in the smallest sizes. You probably won't need a ton in the smallest sizes, but having a suit, a sweater, or cardi and pants I'd recommend. Of course, it depends on where you live, I can only speak as a Norwegian😅
The smallest knits are quite quick to knit, and I found knitwear grew more with my son than his regular clothes, so he could wear his knits for longer!
Yes, it seems so! She has graded into multiple sizes, but not body types/shapes
What size needles did you use on the sweater number 20
I'm using 5.5mm needles❤️
